season 2 eh.....its not like I didn't enjoy Death Note (loved it actually), but even if Light does return as a shiningami,there isn't much of a plot left,and besides Death Note isn't Death Note without L......
@xXvironXx Season 2 was necessary though. For a successful tragedy you have to tell the rise and fall of the protagonist. When considering the ending, Season 2 wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed it.

Ryuk "could" have killed Light right there and taken the notebook back. The only rules between a Death Note owner and the Shinigami involve The Shinigami Eyes and the one saying Ryuk must follow Light as long as he has the Death Note.
If a Shinigami were to actually "lose" their notebook all they would have to do is kill the current owner and take it back.
@CyberLance26 Actually, this is not a scene omitted from the show. This is a new scene added to the 2-hour special called: The Visions of a God, that is a recap of the first half of the series. Also there is another one called L's Successors and that is the recap of the second part of the story. Both of them include new scenes and some changes from the original show. They are great, however I still prefer to see the entire series instead f two specials of 2 hours each one...

feels to me like this scene is very important to the story.
It shows when Light is sure that he has won and that he will be the new worlds ruler and nothing can stop him.
The people watching the show dont know that Near is gonna show up later so this scene could make most people think Light eventually won.

Soldiers are never punished for their actions during war unless they go against direct orders, not for whatever they did while disobeying orders. Plus Light hated Misa too BECAUSE she killed innocents. He tells her that "Kira only punishes the unjust". In the end, the only reason he started to kill innocents himself is because L appeared and started hunting him down. He became a trapped animal that lashes out in its defense

He is not in heaven or hell, he is (japanese word for nothingness) He can't come back as a shinigami because that's not what a shinigami is, they are gods not dead humans. The rules of life, death, and the death note were very rigid in the show. There is zero room for compromise.

You can see this when Light says at the end, "I knew killing people was wrong..but the world had to be fixed." In other words, I know it's wrong to kill people (like L who don't completely deserve it) but it was the only a means to an end for something even better or else it could never work.
