@jfliguy I love the direction the 49ers are going. They have great receivers, A very underratted back in Frank Gore. A very stout run defense and hopefully with the addition of Taylor mays a better passing D. There o line should improve which will help Alex Smith. In the case of Alex Smith in 2005 there was so much Hype that only lead to dissappointed. However, Singletary has shown that he makes the talent around him shine so who knows. This is a make or break year for Smith.
That 4th and 1 20 yard scramble against AZ during prime time for the season opener in 07 was awesome, especially when they zoom up to that chick covering her eyes just before the play. Too bad Jackson dropped the sure TD and battle fumbled at the 1 yard line during that drive though.

I think Alex Smith will make a great back up in this league some day. Jamarcus Russell has some serious talent. the kind of which is special in this league. Frank Gore is getting old and the niners need to address that issue. Signing Aubreyo Franklin is key. He does so much in the middle for Willis.

He went 18-12, TD-INT ratio, passed 61%, and ended the season with an 81.5 passer rating. Numbers don't lie, and watching him play solidifies that. Smith threw better against GB's stingy secondary than Tony Romo. Romo has a MUCH better O-Line. Smith makes huge strides every week. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

Eli's #'s were VERY identical to Alex's their first 3 seasons. Let's not forget, MANY Niner fans HATED Steve Young at first, yet he ended up with a better QB rating and pass efficiency than Joe (with his own Super Bowl MVP & 2 NFL MVP's to boot). @jfliguy I love the direction the 49ers are going. They have great receivers, A very underratted back in Frank Gore. A very stout run defense and hopefully with the addition of Taylor mays a better passing D. There o line should improve which will help Alex Smith. In the case of Alex Smith in 2005 there was so much Hype that only lead to dissappointed. However, Singletary has shown that he makes the talent around him shine so who knows. This is a make or break year for Smith.

1) Alex Smith has never had consistancy in his career. If you keep changing either OC and personal, you know this as well as I do that it stunts your career. 2) He finally has the personal to grow with. 3) The team as a whole was inconsistant not just Alex Smith so call out Vernon and other skilled position players for fuckin off games. 4) Alex has shown what he is capable of doing. 5) I really do not care if you like him or not. I love the things you've stated on here jfliguy. I love the 49ers and I love to see their progress. A TRUE Niners fan supports his QB. Alex Smith WILL be a Pro Bowler in the near future. He went 18-12, TD-INT ratio, passed 61%, and ended the season with an 81.5 passer rating. Numbers don't lie, and watching him play solidifies that. Smith threw better against GB's stingy secondary than Tony Romo. Romo has a MUCH better O-Line. Smith makes huge strides every week. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

37 games total if my math is correct. With injuries and 5 different offensive coordinators, coach changes like a million times. What happens after earthquakes? there are some aftershocks and then settlement. Same concept. the truth he hasnt played since 07. He is like a rising Phoenix. Trying to rise from the ashes, yet there is no patience whatsoever. he's making progress, SHIT LAY OFF.

Here we go again wiht the ESPN references. ESPN rides Peyton Mannings and Tom Bradys balls. They do not look at the rest of the league. They do not notice other young and rising QB's in the league so see for your own eyes not Chris Bermans and let him tell you what is going on cause as far as I can tell they are wrong majority of the time.

Alex Smith, seems to still be learning yet another offense coordinator's ways..........then the O line is poor/weak. Their are many things that need to click right before this Alex gets going, it will take awhile. again He was put in the middle of the year...................to me, we must wait and see what he can do..... I don't see them changing QB in the future, I think that the 49ers will do ok this season and then next year it will become better. Again a very very young team. patience

I agree. Smith is very talented, smart and aggressive, just needs to learn to keep control. Will happen with experience. Favre threw INT's all the time his first several years. Eli's #'s were VERY identical to Alex's their first 3 seasons. Let's not forget, MANY Niner fans HATED Steve Young at first, yet he ended up with a better QB rating and pass efficiency than Joe (with his own Super Bowl MVP & 2 NFL MVP's to boot). Niner fans expect things to happen way too fast. Be patient guys. GO ALEX!

Absolutely correct. I have a feeling Jimmy Raye will be dismissed. Alex Smith is progressing fine, these people are going crazy and no patience, its like they want him to shit out a superbowl trophy- ring. Not going to happen, sorry. He seems to perform under pressure and under time constraint. You need consistency and good development from all areas. Not happening right now. I hate to make Alexcuses, but right now we have a Norv Turner offense once again, the deepest WR depth since 1998, and a far better o-line than last year (as long as Barry Sims is cut). -This is Alex's last chance, it's all up to him now.
