@Planetimage2 what the eff is your problem? Shannon had WAY better form than Gutsu, as well as had less bobbles. Plus, it took freaking forever (compared to Shannon) for her to recover. You're freaking blind.
jesus, these comments are horrid. You can complain all you want about miller or gutsu, or how miller "sucks: which is an obvious lie. But just letting you all know Miller? Is the most decorated american gymnast in history, no one is going to beat her record. And she is 1000000x more decorated then gutsu. So just give it up already.
@Planetimage2 she had less bobbles then gutsu and a stuck landing..how is that failing? And i love how you gutsu fanwhores raid every video with shannon or gutsu trying to prove which one is better. Honestly they were both fantastic gymnasts, but this happened 19 years ago. get over it, and yourself. You people cannot critizie someone on how they preformed, or what they did, unless YOU can do better. Which I don't know for sure, but I doubt your an elite gymnast so I'm guessing your not better.
Its funny how people now days is fighting about who was better Shannon or Tatiana. The fact is that Tatiana got the gold, so face it and get over it, PLEASE.
nice routine! but they say her dismount is a double layout but she seems to pike it a little on her first layout... well whatever, awesome!!!! And a nice stuck landing is always the best way to end the routine
i really don't like her dismount. i mean, i realize i can't do t as well as her, but it reminds me of nastias DLO. all pikey and archy.
all in all, I am definitley on the shannon miller side. Like, of course, Tatiana's a more dynamic gymnast, but she had more noticable mistakes then shannon, and to me, thats what counts.
@benrobinson77 are you kidding me? Bars and beam were their strongest events?! Miller did a hopfull into a ginger, extreme dificutly no one attempted to do at this olympics, they did both 2 release moves, idk about gutsu, but shannon was amazing on this event, a gaint full over the bar into a full in and stuck? I'm sorry if your used to the crappy style of bars today, but just letting you know, bars was much better back then
@luv4cookie1 i guess i disagree a bit. i just feel like "back then" so many gymnasts had that very similar "Boginskaya" bar routine .... kip cast, transition, reverse hect or geinger, some lame transition, some lame sole circle on low bar, back to high bar, maybe a second release move or some other unique c element, then a dismount. i think from 1990 to 1996, that is what most of the bar routines consisted of. even the 80s were more interesting. i dont mind nowadays actually
that's pretty much the exact same routine as shannon miller's...minus the dismount and full hop in the beginning...i think tatiana executed better than shannon though...
@toomuchgoingon how could she have executed better? where you even watching the routine? Gutsu's toes were flexed the entire routine! and she piked her dismount, and landed with her legs apart, and didn't hit her handstands, on the other hand shannon, toes always pointed, full extension on her legs, and stuck everything, i mean shannon just stood up on her dismount, gutsu landed deep
because its interesting i guess, how short and small they are (as opposed to how big and tall a basketball player would be) but they dont do that anymore, teenage girls are self-conscience enough.
thank you millerowns SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT HTE HELL THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT and gutsu didnt land with her legs to getter u ass! not talking to u millerowns

I was 19 in 1992 when I watched the showdown between Gutsu and Miller. I was for Gutsu all the way. She's got this quiet, exotic intensity, and her routines were just more difficult. I agree Miller had better "execution" but isn't that a given if you have easier routines? Plus, Miller was too all-American; this girl is cooler...heh.
@tramberly um that is tottaly biyast. Blus miller had just as much difficulty as gutsu, Seriousley gutsu had no exuse for her lack of toe point and "exectuion" as you call it. Soviets train 4 out of 10 hours a day on exection, and gutsu still sucks at it. And miller had better almost everything then shannon. um lets see, three layout step outs and a full in off beam, and pike back Out of an amazing mount? Bars a hop full into a ginger? An amazing vault, terrific floor, when gutsu was overscored
I agree. I loved Gutsu's aggressive swing. Although her form could've been a bit better, I loved the way this gymnast took a lot of risks yet also took everything to the max (unlike Miller who was a little too prissy for my liking).
@gk891 how was she prissy i don't understand any of this?!! How is having perfecft toe point and better form prissy? I mean shanon had as much or more difficulty ast gutsu on every event so i don't want to hear shit and she preformed it better then gutsu
@luv4cookie1 She had good polish and toe point but both stylistically and in terms of amplitude, Miller was prissy. On UB, both her dismount and release moves had very little height and caught with bent arms. On BB & FX, many called her 'elegant' but to my eyes, she did a lot of prissy arm waving with those goddamn limp wrists.
In terms of difficulty, on BB she does a back pike while Gutsu does a tuck full. Miller had 3 layouts to Gutsu's 2 but Gutsu also did a Rulfova. In terms of the dismount, Miller does her full in from a round off while Gutsu does hers from 3 flipflops. On FX, a split leg double layout is harder than Miller's whip through to full in. Both had landing deductions but Gutsu's was on her split double layout, more difficult than Miller's double pike and the judges probably considered that.
@luv4cookie1 Also on FX, I actually hated both of their styles. I remember many referred to Gutsu as a 'traffic cop' but Miller's dancing style seemed to scream out 'Little Miss Priss'. Gutsu took a lot more risks than Miller and did everything with better speed and amplitude. As polished as Miller was, dancing prissily to violin music does not a great artist maketh. Relative to one another, Gutsu & Miller each had what the other needed but from my perspective, Gutsu was the right winner.
@luv4cookie1 Both were great, but i don't see how Miller's beam or bars could be considered more difficult. However, as far as form, both had beautiful form. I think this olympics is infuriating because so little value was placed on having more difficulty.
@lostlyrarose U are delusional miller hop full to geinger more difficult then gutsu full pirouette gienger and millers full pirouette full in more difficult then gutsus pike open double lay..Beam Ill give that one to Gutsu Iloved that routine
Same here-imo Gutsu's gymnastics were just more dynamic with more difficulty overall on bars, beam, and floor. Shannon outscored her on vault so I don't see where the big 'controversy' is. It was the overall competition not vault finals.
I agree Gutsu had more difficulty on beam and floor. I am not sure I agree she had more difficulty then Miller on bars though. She had more amplitude then Miller on bars I think, but not really more difficulty.
@yueshili her execution wasn't that great. And she had the standard amount of difficulty as everyone else. 2 release moves, a puriette going into one. And a full in or double layout dismount. Vault and bars were her only 2 events that she wasn't sepectacular on.
anyone else feel that bela karolyi really ruined kim zmeskal by overhyping her. i mean, clearly her form and difficulty were not up to gutsu and miller. It's bizarre that he had success with nadia and mary lou, who had very difficult routines for their eras. even if zmeskal hit every routine, she still couldn't compete with those two.
I agree. However it is understandable since she was the World AA Champion. She also won those 2 EF golds at 92 EF Worlds, but only because alot of top gymnasts were not there and the few who were there screwed up on beam and floor.
i am a huge fan of the tucked double front on both beam and vault...i wish someone would bring them both back...i know we haven't seen a handspring double front on vault in awhile
They BOTH were-for their eras. One can't compare athletes of different eras with each other-you may as well say Produnova was more of a daredevil than Nadia Comaneci or Yelena Mukhina (who imo was the daredevil of her age).
Well I love Prod as well so let's just say thank goodness for daredevils! They are what bring the Rock n' Roll to our sport-with some beautiful dance thrown on their once in a while.. :)
