I would like to know where to get the screens/sand from so that I can have my students do something silimar.

photo/slide light tables - can make screen w/ frosted plastic sheet and appropriate bulbs underneath.
most ceramic places have fine sand (grog). can also use carborundum - lithography grit - very black.
