@wasted2240 Often times if they stand their ground and act aggressive, the bear will give up and find easier prey. It didn't seem injured but this bear was desperate and needed to feed her cubs, so it put itself in danger and overpowered the caribou while running the risk of getting gored. Bears don't generally put themselves in danger, but will if they are desperate. And as you can see they are more than capable of taking down prey larger than themselves.

That was one stupid caribou. It had so much going for it.

I am glad that was not a grizzly I ran up on hiking Mt Mitchell :D

I go hiking in NC/TN Mountains a lot and had several bear situations, and never film it. I did not want to return to the east coast of NC with out some footage this time. We have black bears on east coast, but they are bearish and usually all people see are tracks.

In the mountains I have seen pan handling bears that the rangers usually kill, & almost crossed paths with momma watching cubs.

As to why the caribou doesn't run, I'm guessing that it's sick (notice that it's separated from the herd already). I don't think even a grizzly would be able to take down a healthy caribou this easily.
