two things about this game. First of all.. I didn't see any of Ding Ning's Crazy style serve.
secondly. the korean women weren't given any chances by the Chinese to counter attack. The point of a defensive player, in my mind, is to use any errors by the attack to counter attack... and china did a really good job preventing that
be it chopper or killer, defensive or offensive... the winner is the one who gets one more ball on the opponent's side's table. but my point here is to enjoy some awesome and fun matches :)
2 choppers, 2 losers! Chopper style was invented by the Chinese at least 4 decades ago. Nowadays no Chinese player who represents the motherland China is a chopper, because the Chinese realize it doesn't work. Yet, foreign countries still employ choppers. What a backward mindset! They don't realize the TT world has changed. The best defense is offense! ☆☆☆☆☆

@tyoungos Chopping has existed since the beginning of competitive table table tennis which is way in the past, so no, the Chinese did not invent chopping. Anyway, there is still a chopper in the Chinese female National team, Wu Yang who won the World Junior TT Championship last year.
be nice to the choppers. the things they do are meant to be more subtle and tricky.
it's an attempt to mess with the physics of the ball, only to make it harder for you to hit it. And with a good reaction time, the best defense is a good defense. why do you think kim kyung ah is 7th and park mi young is 12th?? i mean seriously, kim kyung ah has even improved more since last time i checked her rankings. last time she was 9th. don't diss choppers like that.
@tyoungos Not entirely true. All the games were pretty close. And also, the offensive players here were ranked higher and (I think) are younger. Joo is an awesome defender, having beat Ma Lin, Wang Liqin and nearly Ma Long, too. (all great offensive players)
I think they make the whole movement to cover up the spin. They can chop without spin and with alot of spin like that without the opponent to see it. If you make a short movement when giving alot of spin and a long movement when you give no spin, on that level they see it. So I think its to cover up the spin, might be wrong tho :)
@plot000000 i think its to guide the ball to the other side of the table. if you do a quick punch like chop, its probably going to go straight to the net. it also adds more spin. its like swinging a baseball bat, you don't swing half way, you swing to the fullest to get more power.
wow the china players are so offensive!
:O

ah, the defenders need to be more aggressive. High drop shots and they still chop them

Apparently you didn't watch the 2009 ITTF Junior World Championships... The women's singles winner, Wu Yang, is Chinese and a chopper.... =P

Dang how tall is Ding Ning? Liu Shiwen looks so tiny next to her.

why do they have to do that whole circle movement why they chop? seems better to save that energy to use in a spinnier chop.
