Obituary: Harlan Dale Stuebs Harlan Dale Stuebs, known to all as "Red," passed away Aug. 31, 2011. Red was born December 1928 in Kewaunee, Wis. He married Patricia Myotte in 1950. Together, in 1952, they started their thrill show call the "Hurricane Hell Drivers" in Manitowo
Ionia, Michigan Fairgrounds, circa 1972 - 1975. I can replay this entire show in my mind. As a 12 year old boy, seeing the cars going around the entire quarter mile track on 2 wheels, jump through a flaming hoop, and the jaw dropping "slide for life" (with the guy wearing asbestos pants, I think.) - it just couldn't get any better!!!
That's what I'm talking about! I remember seeing the Hurricane Hell Drivers in Hastings Michingan at the Barry county fair as a child. This was one of the most exciting shows I had ever seen!
It is too bad that many of these shows are not in existence anymore. Seems like they would be a natural as a warmup to a nascar or dirt track event.

Great memories as a kid at the Great Barrington Fair (Mass.)!!
"HEY! What's that CRAZY clown doing out there?!?
W-W-What's that you say? (clown nodding wildly, in a way that can be seen from 17 miles away)
You say YOU are going to drive one of the cars?!? Don't DO IT! Don't you know you'll get HURT out there!!!" (etc.)
Ahh the days of simple good clean entertainment!
Thanks for posting! I think I still have one of the neon-lime green posters w/ith the hypnotic spiral logo somewhere!

I am looking for video tape I can purchase of the Tournament of Thrills mustang show.
My husband's father was one of the stunt drivers. Johnny Hartinger.
He never met his father and I think it would be a great gift.

What's your Dad's name? I have a couple of programs from the Hurricane Hell Drivers when they drove Dodge Lancers. Your Dad may be in one of them.
