Actually, to tell you the truth, and this has been on for quite a while, the german engineering, well they say the german engineering and technology in cars is about 10 years more advanced then american cars. This has been for a while, because back in world war 2, germany a tank called "the tiger", it was the best tank used in the second world war, and its not like they have been in production for long. VW, audi and porsche only started in the early 1940's.

I had a 2001 Volkswagen it had problems after problems.

Made of very cheap plastic, bad sensors, bad alternators, starters, sealed transmission, overall pretty bad.

I had a 1990 Honda and I had it for 12 years and I replaced water pump

and ignition switch.

@Falco75 You do haved to realise, that when it comes to german cars or japanese cars, they were all better built in those years, get yourself a honda civic between 2000-2005 with auto transmission, and that tranny will go after 120k, and they do have other issues as well... But the older japanese and german cars were better at the time, like american cars were okay in the 70s... I did read in a news article that vw and honda were in the top 3 for most reliable car for 2009...
