I work for the International Network of People who Use Drugs (INPUD) and we are building partnerships with other key populations affected by HIV. There is no "battle". The technical term is "dysphoria" and it is an in-born condition which renders the individual at conflict with the external gender of their nativity. the reality, more than a mental "perception", is that the dysphoric individual must align the outer body with the inner reality of their being to achieve balance. It is not a "lifestyle" or emotional contrivance.

What you said here is exactly the kind of thing people were saying when black people were fighting for the same rights. And just like laws and attitudes toward black people have changed and continue to change for the better, the laws and attitudes toward the LGBT community is changing too. I'm sorry, but why do people have to compare the black civil rights movement to EVERYTHING else, it doesn't make it more serious. yes they are both struggles but you really truely CAN NOT compare the two or force other people to sympathize with your particular struggle.
