The doublebassist is Rodney Slatford. I remember the rehearsal for this concert. Even when Curzon just sounded the "A" for the strings the tone was so warm and inviting.
definetely, the most beautiful and expressive chamber music work that poured out of that genius mind that was Franz Schbert, it was commissioned by Sylvester Paumgartner in Steyr in 1819, he was a rich mining propietor and a amateur cellist, this 1st movement, Allegro vivace, the piano takes on the lead, with an arpegio ascending figure which will be constant throughout the movement.
Fantastic! Great to see some Curzon on YouTube! One of the very best pianists on record. A true inheritor of Schnabel's 'musicality over technical perfection' philosophy.
What a gem!! Thanks so much for posting here , Clifford Curzon what a fantastic pianist such a shame he did n´t make more recordings and the Amadeus, wonderfull wonderfull.

Every quintet posted by "win081" is spelled "qunitet" and it's a bit annoying.

OMG!!! I was beginning to think I'd never see Curzon on YouTube. One of my all-time very favorite pianists.
Thank you so much, Win081. If you have any more videos of him, PLEASE post them.
