Not to rub it in your noses. I saw them twice in Germany in 1980, when I was stationed there. 1st was the infamous Nuremburg show when Bonzo simply passed out after about three songs, During "Black Dog" you could see Bonzo was out of itI think. It was general admission and the venue was really small, about 2 or 3000 capacity. I got there early and was front and center. 2nd time was in Munich at the Olympic Arena. Best show I've ever seen! Scaled down, no big lite show. Old tunes. What a blast!
@clontarf1002 they really were gettin into a groove weren't they? I remember reading an interview where Jonesy said optimism was greatly shared at this point in their tour. Damn
The solo is so laid back and chill until 4:55, then things get warmed up from there. Good of Page to add two different tones into the solo. Not bad at all for 1980!
oh god, just jizzed my pants o.o this one is truly awesome!
Heartbreaker lasting for more than ten minutes- a dream comes true. love that solo, adore the outro, love that vocal outroduction by Percy at the end of the song- talah!.
Probably the longest ever version of this song. Great solo. It seems he pretty much pieced together all of the differents parts of this solo he's done over the years and made it into one. Love it!
such a shame Zeppelin came to a crashing halt in 1980. although they were using some heavy effects on Plant's voice, at least he was beginning to get his voice back after the rough time it had in the mid-'70s. in the first and second verses, he was sounding like he did in '69!
from '77 and on, Plant's voice was finally starting to make a comeback, although it would never be as glorious as it was in the early days. I'd rather listen to this than anything from '73 or '75.
dude HeadleyGrange70, you can hear how fucked he was in the way he played. he got straight WASTED on smack in the late 70s, his playing took a nose dive basically. play the dallas 69 boot, then any 77 , you see how drugs screwed him up
Isn't it interesting how many people make statements about Jimmy's herion addiction like they actually know shit about any of Jimmy's personal doings.
Most of us know that he was in Led Zeppelin and a few things (like his occult dabbling) all thanks to wikipedia or something of that sort. Only a very small selection know him personally ;)
Bonzo's drums are strong enough to blow your mind, JPJ's bass is heavy enough to stop your heart, Pagey's guitar is sexy enough to make you move your hips, and Robert's voice is so stunning it makes you jizz your pants!
Also, if Bonham wouldn't have died, Jimmy would not have ended up dead. He was already trying to kick his addiction here. And for the most part it was going away. He just liked being thin and saw how that smack kept him thin. But, he realized it would have killed him if he wouldn't have stopped. Bonhams' death just set his recovery process back about three years. The ARMS concert is a good example of Jimmy still smacked out lol.
What we don't understand is Jimmy wasn't smacked out here. That is why it sounds more flowy and pure here in this video. Usually when he is smacked out, he is very choppy and the sound is not the best. But here he is almost back to his old 72,73' self. And The Song Remains The Same is a compilation of all the nights. Yes, it doesn't match the recorded footage alot of the time, but either way it's Led Zeppelin. They can do as they please. lol
Jimmy Page is so fucking beast when he isn't high. He is the best guitarist that ever lived and he is still number one so he has got what he deserves on him. The fucking best, Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin!
Now thats a performance, anybody who says its shit because of the bootleg quality. Go and listen to your favorite TSRTS concerts in the same format, they some of the worst shows zeppelin ever played.
Well I exaggerated when I said they were some of the worst shows zeppelin played, but they were pretty terrible by 73' standards. I wish they had decided to film other dates on that great tour.
Actually, if you listened to a lot of the 1973 bootlegs that weren't on the DvD, you'd know that they didn't have it down quite as good as the movie footage. The movie footage was at the end of their 73 American tour. So they knew what everyone was doing, and they where into all the songs a lot more fluently. It takes some time to get real tight on the road. And you are aware that this is 80, not 73. So if you're comparing this to the rest of 73 tour, then you're mislead.
what u dont understnad is that tsrts as a movie, not a concert persay, it was a mulch recording from 2 or 3 nights, it was just that they had the cameras there, 1977 was my favorite year, la forum and nyc concerts were the greatest ever
Hahaha! You don't think I know that? Of course it was. You can tell by the John, and Jimmy playing what doesn't match the sound. At least, if you understand it all. I'm a musician, so I know when it matches, and when it doesn't. You probably didn't know that there where also a lot of shots they filmed in a studio.

the songs are more strong in bad conditioned recording
than pure stereo sound.

Which show did this come from? If it's 1980, it's the best I heard Jimmy play in that year by a long shot.
