I would definitely rank this among the top ten TV intros of all time, not only do the actors have an anxious look upon their escaping through that dark tunnel, but the high energy music was groundbreaking for the time..five stars!

The other two (who were chasing the vehicle) run to him and Cole says: "Linc, are you okay?" Linc looks up and says (I swear),"BAD TRIP MAN..." Hilarious...

Mod squad time sig is all over the place the main move you're hearing there is where it moves from a quick three count to a four count. Hard to explain how this works without conducting it with a baton in front of you. Gotta give it up for the skilled studio musicians who pulled this off so tight after sight reading it, practicing a couple times, then recording it.
The Mod Squad theme (& most accompanying music) was done by the brilliant Earle Hagen who died recently in 2008. (Dick Van Dyke show theme, so many, in TV & Film - he was a genius) Here's what you can do. The into is 6/4 then goes to 6/8 then 7/8 back to 6/8. This is why I (and others) studied music. I love when they stop the video to introduce Linc, and he looks like he's looking for something 20 yards away when Pete Cochran is only 5 feet away.
I love that. (that's the best part of the visual for the whole opening).
The 2nd best part? Is where they're running with Julie in the middle and it looks like Linc and Pete are carrying her because she can't keep up.

I know right! I notice that they all run like spazzes, and they're all ridiculously out of breath. And running three-abreast, with arms interlinked doesn't seem to me like the fastest way to get away from the bad guys! But it does look dramatic... LOL

The commercial promos for the show were hilarious: "THREE HIP COPS ON A SOUL BEAT" & "THREE COPS, ONE WHITE, ONE BLACK, ONE BLONDE"...and who can forget the trailer which shows Lincoln getting thrown out of a moving car and and tossed into a ditch. The other two (who were chasing the vehicle) run to him and Cole says: "Linc, are you okay?" Linc looks up and says (I swear),"BAD TRIP MAN..." Hilarious...

Mod squad time sig is all over the place the main move you're hearing there is where it moves from a quick three count to a four count. Hard to explain how this works without conducting it with a baton in front of you. Gotta give it up for the skilled studio musicians who pulled this off so tight after sight reading it, practicing a couple times, then recording it.

The Mod Squad theme (& most accompanying music) was done by the brilliant Earle Hagen who died recently in 2008. (Dick Van Dyke show theme, so many, in TV & Film - he was a genius) Here's what you can do. The into is 6/4 then goes to 6/8 then 7/8 back to 6/8. This is why I (and others) studied music. Hope this helps.

Sonny, as alittle kid growing up I thought Cole was cute and wanted him myself and wanted to be Peggy as well. LOL. Though ironically, I became to be called her later on. Anyway jepf, Im with you. They should show these classics on either TVLand or somewhere instead of some of the garbage they show. New and old.

I watched just before cancelled - was young. I watched in reruns at 7:00 and stuck with me. Hillstreet blues began at 9:00 - cool. Todays cop shows are crap. Too bad nobody is watching those shows or understand them now.

Watching this now, it sort of looks more like a Zucker, Zucker & Abrahams parody of a show opening than a real one. "Yikes, our boss is chasing us through an old abandoned something or other!" I wonder what this would look like with the theme from "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" playing in the background instead. R.I.P. Earl Hagen. Ya dun good.

Man I loved the MOD SQuad. We would never miss a show, I remember we used to watch it before we went to bed. I used to love to watch LINK do those INCREDIBLE JUMPS off of something to catch the bad guys. I woud love to watch the reruns now. I just turned 46.

Don't know why I woke up his morning with this tune in my head, but I had to hear it. I started laughing after seeing this again because of the flashbacks it gave me. Almost forgot how, when we were kids, my brother and I would mimick the theme and jokingly imitate the dude opening the door with the serious face! We thought he looked hilarious! Of course the music kind of made us want to run through puddles too! Hmm...it is raining right now. Damn that tv influence!
