  • thanks for the beginning and ending ear rapes. oh and for that nice website logo in the middle..nice quality tho......

  • my brother used to tell me, in the beginning intro, the negro was chasing the white people rob the guy and rape the white girl...lol

  • i'm really surprised this show is not shown in reruns. i'd love to watch it.

  • What a great chart!!!

  • Eu era criança tinha 6 ou 7 anso..Saudades.. Sao Paulo/Brasil

  • I'm sure The Mod Squad had an "In Color" intro at the start of every show for the first couple seasons. Anyone know where to find it?

  • 2 people are not feeling very groovy baby! This is TOO SOLID of a series not to be one of the best of all time, bro!

  • I often see Clarence Williams on the flat and silver screen but wha-happem to Mike & Peg? I know she was a Quincy J. squeeze.

  • @upperdarbybill Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones are the parents of actress Rashida Jones (of The Social Network, I Love You Man, The Office, etc). You can see qualities of both of their faces in her face.

  • So this is what Michael Cole was doing before he joined WWE. Who knew? ;)

  • VERY cool and exciting theme. One of the BEST!

  • Solid.

  • michael cole?

  • THIS IS NOTHING LIKE WHAT PETER GRIFFIN DESCRIBED IT ASS WTF?!!?!?!

  • Who is link supposed to be? someone said i look like link from this tv show and no one shows a resemblance to me.

  • @straightupmenace "Linc" is the black guy

  • @straightupmenace LINK WAS THE BLACK GUY

  • the cops were chasing them. They were teen rebels before they worked for the police.

  • I only have one burning question that's been bugging me for decades: WHO THE HECK IS CHASING THEM???

  • @lgtrekphan their shadows

  • Comment removed

  • Classic! What a great show.

  • I was 5 and they were SO hip.

  • What the hell were they running from anyway? Capt Greer?

  • I used to think Lipton was Susan Dey from the Partridge family.

  • @mondocaneman Both pretty but they didn't look alike...

  • I forgot how kick ass the theme song was.

  • Used to love watching the MODS. Used to have a big crush on Lipton.

  • Peggy Lipton had the look for that time.

  • This show was da Bomb back in the day. I was like 5 yrs old watching this .

  • I saw repeats of this series late 1990s on cable. Very dull, plodding episodes, and really not cool or in any way 'mod'. Just dull dull dull.

  • Who the hell were they Running from???? 0.45 ,That insurance salesman that popped out of the closet ??? LMAO!!!

  • Who the hell were they Running from???? That insurance salesman that popped out of the closet??? LMAO!!!

  • They'd be able to run faster if they weren't running arm in arm.

  • Seeing this intro does not make me want to watch the show. Wow, this is bad television. I thank the poster for posting this, though.

  • They were young. They were cool. They were stool pigeons... just kidding! Mod Squad was a graphic portrayal of teenagers as cops. Lke MacGauver, they use their cunning and wits to fight the bad guys.

  • I just remember that Link's from always stayed tight no matter what. He could be in a car crash, a fist fight, fall off a cliff and that afro never lost its shape.

  • That was me chasing Peggy Lipton

  • When I was an 8 and 9 year old boy I had the HOTS for Peggy Lipton.

  • @vassephardi me too

  • @frank47hammer When I was a little boy & first saw that episode where the little boy shoots Julie, I literally wanted to jump through the TV screen & bash his head in.

  • @vassephardi I don't blame you, I felt the same way. I only wish she had branched out and done more films. She is now 64 years old, if you can believe that, and she revealed a few years back that she was romantically involved with Paul McCartney and Elvis Presley, and she married Quincy Jones. They all had good taste. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004, but she appears to be in remission. Thank God.

  • @frank47hammer Oh wow thanks.

I can't hardly believe all the stuff that happened after the show.

    And, WOW ! ! !

So she did the King of Rock And Roll, eh?

    Wow ! ! !

And she was with one of the Beatles. Most interesting.

  • @vassephardi Hell, that's it bro. The powers that be did should celebrate her birthday, August 30th 1946. A day to remmeber.

  • @frank47hammer I bet she's still a cutie. I hope she gets better. I heard she was a decent singer too. She even sang in one episode.

  • @vassephardi wow what ep was that, i missed this show, i was only 6yrs old, the osmond brothers song, one bad apple, drakes fruit doodle comercial, peanut butter and applebutter sandwitches, black and white buck shoes, shingles hanging from ur vest, awwwww man

  • @boomcc1 Hello.

Which episode are you referring to as I've made several comments on this video?

I don't remember which comment you refer to.

  • @vassephardi when the little boy shoots julie, and u wanted to jump thru the tv and bash his head in. lol

  • I still never knew what they were running from, lol!

  • @darrell31316 Hahahaha ! ! !

I've been trying to figure that one out since I was a little kid.

What the hell were they running from?

    Hahahaha ! ! !

  • @darrell31316 They were criminals: Julie was a heroin addict, Link a crack-head, and Pete something else (forgot exactly what).

They're running from Tige Andrews, the cop. He then catches them and makes them work for him.

Notice that they NEVER say that they're cops, etc.. They always say "I'm a friend of Captain Greer".

  • @vassephardi

    thanks, makes sense now! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @vassephardi RIP, Tige Andrews.

  • @StukInBuf He was good. He was also in the old Star Trek as a Klingon commander always fighting Kirk.

I didn't know he died though.

  • @vassephardi I was surprised a year or so ago to even find out he had passed nearly 4 years ago.

  • @StukInBuf That stinks. And this February Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartright from Bonanza) died as well & I just found out about it like 2 months ago. Also Yvonne DiCarlo died a week or so after Pernell. Strange 'cause they both came out in the 1st Bonanza episode.

Yet no mention on any news programs of any of this.

  • I would definitely rank this among the top ten TV intros of all time, not only do the actors have an anxious look upon their escaping through that dark tunnel, but the high energy music was groundbreaking for the time..five stars!

  • They are running from the late 20th and early 21st century television where shows will slip into further unimaginary, uninspiring and unmotivated produced drivel. Thank goodness for reruns and current technology like YouTube :)

  • @SolarisBreeze57 lol u got that right!

  • @SolarisBreeze57 EXCELLENT ANSWER. GORGEOUSLY STATED

  • TIGE ANDREWS used to play as Lt. Johnny Russo...one of Robert Taylor's men in the 1959-1962 T.V. series THE DETECTIVES.

  • @williamg2552 Tige Andrews was also a Klingon who fought Captain Kirk several times. He was like Kirk's arch-nemesis.

  • Cole was a stud!

  • I've never really thought about this opening before, but they are really freaked out about something and then there he is...their boss! I'd run too. :)

  • I hung out with Michael's sister in High School, would love to see both of them.

Loved it when he would drive me around and talk about life.

  • @MINERKITKAT You were so lucky. I admired him when I was in my very early teens when the Mod Squad was on and still do. I still have hope to meet him someday.

  • The last decent TV show I saw Clarence Williams on was an episode of Miami Vice in the mid to late 80's, where he played some voodoo leader. He was great here on The Mod Squad and on Miami Vice!!

  • the movie sucked lol

  • Yo that is carzy. Do you know how old this show is or when it first came out. Clerance was a young boy?

  • It's Clarence Williams 3rd, not Clarence Thomas!

  • My Grandmother always laughed about the fact that this was her favorite show!

  • Who (or what) are they running from?

  • @xylowave since they used to be petty criminals before joining the cops I always assumed they were running from the law.

  • I remember an episode where "Link" (Lincoln Hayes) tried to hold back his tears, his lip was trembling and one HUGE tear rolled down his face...

  • I wonder whatever happened to Michael Cole? I did see Clarence Williams III on some stuff after the show ended & know Peggy LIpton (who was NOT an heiress to a tea bag fortune!) was married to music tycoon Quincy Jones for awhile. I remember the show but never watched it much back then when I was a preteen. THANKS for posting it's rousing theme song! Strictly from coolsville, daddy-o!!!

  • @JubalCalif: Michael Cole has a small role in the Kevin Costner/William Hurt film "Mr. Brooks" from a couple of years ago. He plays Costner's lawyer in an early scene...you can't miss him!

  • @recordman64 Hey Record Guy from '64! THANKS a lot for that info about the talented Mr Cole. Nice to know he still gets those movie gigs! CHEERS! :)

  • @recordman64 He didn't play Costner's lawyer, he played Demi Moore's lawyer. The movie was weird, but it was nice seeing Michael Cole in it.

  • Back when TV shows had theme songs and an intro...

  • That 60's banner @ the end was PRIMO!

Clarence Williams III really gave me the creeps in the end of the movie, 'Tales from the Hood' (1995).

  • Great theme one of the best,,if not the BEST,,,,Youtube - "feels a long journey"-..a big hit song by australias..MOD SQUAD .

Yes the remake movie awful-miscast actors.

  • A classic! Wouldn't mind having a DVD of all these old series!

  • The movie version was Shit and an insult to a classic tv show

  • Idiots thought they could make a movie version. Boy did that flop. Like you can replace these three actors. Clarence Williams III especially.

  • I used to watch this show back in the 70s, I have Season One on DVD. It was great seeing this series again. Lincoln Hayes has to be the coolest Cop ever.

  • Agree!

  • My man Link played Prince father in Purple Rain and a drug dealer in half baked with Dave Chappelle.

  • He also played in I gonna get you sucka. Eve Plumb from the Brady Bunch played his wife. Very funny stuff. But his best work was as Lincoln Hayes on the Mod Squad.

  • bullshit..

  • hahahaha

  • Unquestionably one of the best themes ever written. Like a rocket taking off from that first bar! I LOVE the organ player - maybe it was Rick Wakeman (anyone remember him, from YES, and other bands)? Listen for him at 21 seconds thru 39 or so.

Aren't they awfully well dressed for "hoodlums"? Preppy before there was prep. Don't get your loafers wet, Pete!

  • This intro is whacked.

    Makes no sense.

  • It sounds like a cross between Kolchak The Night Stalker and Hawaii 5 0.

  • I find this intro incredibly funny.

  • I always remembered that Michael Cole had like only one facial expression he ever used on the show. Hadn't thought about this in years, nice upload.

  • tige andrews was a great klingon

  • I was about to say that! Yah, too bad his Klingon was never given a name. And damn Peggy Lipton was hot.

  • Ha, Ha. Good catch.

  • This is the craziest intro ever, they look like the creature from hell is chasing them! and I don't know what's more hilarious, Peggy Lipton almost passing out or when Tige Andrews opens the door. "Now Tige, just open the door and look real serious, that's it" I agree with the previous comment, this always mistified me as a kid, but it was effective

  • Where the hell are they?????? I never could figure this out when I was a kid.

  • I watched this show all the time growing up, it was the best. They were all so cool!

  • Peggy Lipton and Raquel Welch the two hottest actress's of the early 1970's.

  • This was My first TV police Drama, since when I was growing up, like you said sudameriquen they don't make TV shows like this no more! They need to bring it back right now!

  • Nicly done. It looks like their all jonesing pretty hard!

  • I watch this classic show growing up as a kid, still timeless to this very day without question.

  • best show ever made!!!!!

Me and my sister would always re enact these episodes...lol..

  • Tige Andrews (3-19-20 1- 27-07). Michael Cole (born 7-3-45) role as Pete Cochran- Latest project was: Grave Misconduct (2008) (TV), Clarence Williams III (born August 21, 1939) Lincoln Hayes- Latest projects: A Day in the Life (2009/II), "Cold Case", Officer Down (2009), "Burn Notice", Truth and Reconciliation (2009), Peggy Lipton Jones (born 8-30-46) played "Julie Barnes"and Norma Jennings in Twin Peaks. Latest projects: "Rules of Engagement" (1 episode, 2007), A Visit from Fay (2007)

  • I said it before and now I will say it again. Peggy Lipton was HOT. Unfortunately they don't do it like this anymore. Today's TV really SUCKS!!

  • I love this show!!

My brother and I are going to try and bring "solid" back at our school. :)

  • WOW! I wish They Bring this show Back! I grew up watching this me and my late father !

    A Lot of Memories!

  • It is out on DVD--season's 1 and 2!

  • I love when they stop the video to introduce Linc, and he looks like he's looking for something 20 yards away when Pete Cochran is only 5 feet away.

I love that. (that's the best part of the visual for the whole opening).

The 2nd best part? Is where they're running with Julie in the middle and it looks like Linc and Pete are carrying her because she can't keep up.

  • I know right! I notice that they all run like spazzes, and they're all ridiculously out of breath. And running three-abreast, with arms interlinked doesn't seem to me like the fastest way to get away from the bad guys! But it does look dramatic... LOL

  • I love the TV show but the most recently released movie stinks. The TV show is better.

  • One white one black and one blond!!!!

  • WOW! I WAS 6 WHEN THIS HIT!!

Check how they freeze frame each person. The true trademark of 70's television. They use to always freeze at the end too, as they walked away, and the cameras zoomed out.

    TOO COOL....

  • I know what they're running from - they're playing an extreme game of Hide And Seek. Why do you think Tige Andrews flung open the door so dramatically? Because he's it and he's just finished counting to 100... and he's ready to go hunting for them!

  • ...by God you're right! How could I have not see it?!? The mystery has been solved, they just cut away before he screamed 'Ready or not, here I come!' :)

  • OMG! Me and my little brother used to imitate this opening by running like that with our sister between us! What a great memory!

  • I must say Link resembles Samuel L Jackson

  • It's the otherway around actually...Samuel L. Jackson resembles...Link. :)

  • very cool!~

  • The commercial promos for the show were hilarious: "THREE HIP COPS ON A SOUL BEAT" & "THREE COPS, ONE WHITE, ONE BLACK, ONE BLONDE"...and who can forget the trailer which shows Lincoln getting thrown out of a moving car and and tossed into a ditch. The other two (who were chasing the vehicle) run to him and Cole says: "Linc, are you okay?" Linc looks up and says (I swear),"BAD TRIP MAN..." Hilarious...

  • And..."They got busted,...then they got badges!" or something like that, and Peggy: "Hey, dig the police brutality!" They ran that one endlessly!

  • All these shows from the late 60's to late 70's always had people running in the credit sequence. Ironside being the exception of course.

  • G.R.O.O.V.Y

  • I agree with

    Oldiesbuff925 -C'mon TV Land-change that stale line-up!!!

  • Clarence Williams III and Lawrence Fishburne - separated at birth?

  • @ retrorebirth: I think you made a Freudian slip with Clarence Williams III's name in your info. You called him Clarence Thomas III. :) I now have very wrong images of the show with him in it. LOL Thanks! Thanks for posting too.

  • Does anyone know the time signature on this theme...6/8 maybe?

  • Mod squad time sig is all over the place the main move you're hearing there is where it moves from a quick three count to a four count. Hard to explain how this works without conducting it with a baton in front of you. Gotta give it up for the skilled studio musicians who pulled this off so tight after sight reading it, practicing a couple times, then recording it.

  • The Mod Squad theme (& most accompanying music) was done by the brilliant Earle Hagen who died recently in 2008. (Dick Van Dyke show theme, so many, in TV & Film - he was a genius) Here's what you can do. The into is 6/4 then goes to 6/8 then 7/8 back to 6/8. This is why I (and others) studied music. Hope this helps.

  • my mom was a big fan of mod squad. she never missed a show this brings back memories

  • Not the greatest intro, but it does silently explain their story, but the music is top notch.

  • Someone needs to correct the cast info : Clarence WILLIAMS III not Clarence Thomas III. Great clip though.

  • The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers is the theme song and personal anthem of Tigger, a fictional tiger from the children's book series Winnie-the-Pooh. Although Tigger's birthday is believed to be in October of 1928, the year that The House at Pooh Corner was first published, on Tigger-related merchandise, Disney often indicates Tigger's birth year as 1968, a reference to the first year that Tigger appeared in a Disney production, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. cyclone ranger - deca scouts

  • I Like Tige Andrews goofy, freeze frame intro! XD

  • Beserkley, the way I understand it, they are symbolically trying to run away from their troubled pasts and running towards an uncertain future.

  • I use to love it when Linc use to say "Solid". he was the coolest negro back then.

  • Awesome theme, that number still totally rocks! Get up, run!!! :)

  • Sonny, as alittle kid growing up I thought Cole was cute and wanted him myself and wanted to be Peggy as well. LOL. Though ironically, I became to be called her later on. Anyway jepf, Im with you. They should show these classics on either TVLand or somewhere instead of some of the garbage they show. New and old.

  • Wish this show and Mission Impossible woud shown on Fancast

  • Of course, you have to ask yourself one question: WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY RUNNING FROM?

  • loved this show, and I had the hots for peggy lipton

  • Loved this show had the hots for micheal cole and wanted to be like Peggy Lipton.

  • everybody back in those days was running, between this show and Mannix

  • the obesity rate was low then, too. lol!!

  • any clips of season's 2 or 3????

  • I watched just before cancelled - was young. I watched in reruns at 7:00 and stuck with me. Hillstreet blues began at 9:00 - cool. Todays cop shows are crap. Too bad nobody is watching those shows or understand them now.

  • Hey man the other site is getting many more hits.

  • What site r u talking about?

  • Hey, man, you're under arrest...

  • pete had the most air time, the most popular! the star of the show for sure, michael cole 4eva

  • Clarence wuz stylin !

  • I noticed in the info section that it says "Clarence Thomas III". Link was played by Clarence Williams III. Clarence Thomas is Antonin Scalia's handpuppet on the US Supreme Court.

  • Cool, but who were they running from? I remember it, but only because my parents watched it.

  • Cool!! Easily one of the best TV show theme songs ever.

  • You got my vote on that ABSOLUTELY

  • Wow, this is great...except for that annoying shit you guys stick at the beginning and end of all your vids, but WTF--your versions are the only loud ones sometimes, so-

  • Watching this now, it sort of looks more like a Zucker, Zucker & Abrahams parody of a show opening than a real one. "Yikes, our boss is chasing us through an old abandoned something or other!" I wonder what this would look like with the theme from "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" playing in the background instead. R.I.P. Earl Hagen. Ya dun good.

  • Shoot, I'm watching the clips and I'm hooked again. I would love to see this on TV again.

  • I am 40 now and I was not allowed to watch the Mod Squad, but I did on the DL. I remember exploding cars going off cliffs, cool cats in turtlenecks and Julie Lipton, who I SWORE I would one day marry!!

  • Man I loved the MOD SQuad. We would never miss a show, I remember we used to watch it before we went to bed. I used to love to watch LINK do those INCREDIBLE JUMPS off of something to catch the bad guys. I woud love to watch the reruns now. I just turned 46.

  • One of the best crime show themes ever!

  • Peggy Lipton was HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don't know why I woke up his morning with this tune in my head, but I had to hear it. I started laughing after seeing this again because of the flashbacks it gave me. Almost forgot how, when we were kids, my brother and I would mimick the theme and jokingly imitate the dude opening the door with the serious face! We thought he looked hilarious! Of course the music kind of made us want to run through puddles too! Hmm...it is raining right now. Damn that tv influence!

  • This opening sequence gives me goose bumps. I use to watch the "Mod Squad" when I was a very young boy. I'm 45 now and the opening credits look and sou
