I had the great fortune to meet Derek when I was 20 years old. It was then when I started practicing astanga vinyasa yoga. Derek and Kristina inspired me and touched in such a deep level.... They changed the course of my life. They became my teachers and my family. I will always recall those moments sitting and talking with Derek. Just being next to him had a profound effect on me. I am so grateful for those moments.
Thank you Derek, thank you Kristina. Thank you Dennis and Liam...
So beautiful, thank you for sharing this wonderful footage. I never met Derek but the tales I heard of him inspired me to come to Crete to practice Ahstanga. Many years later I am still here, and Derek's spirit still resides along this shore.
So moving and so wonderful - watching this has brought my day to a standstill . Derek was the most amazing teacher and an inspirational person to be around. And he was just so tender with his beautiful boys. Much love to you both and to Kristina. xx
Wow! Amazing to see him again. For me no ther yoga teacher comes close. He remains an inspiration. Thanks for posting it. Hi Liam, I looked after you and Lumi during your first summer in Crete! Love to you, Lumi and your Mum. xxx
I was lucky to have worked with Derek in Crete, for 3 amazing fortnights of instruction in Yoga and humour. Although I no longer practice or teach Astanga Vinyasa, it is always in my own personal practice, that Derek whispers in my ear. "Come to the front of your mat Samasthiti begin your practice"
Thank you so much for sharing Derek's practice with us I'd always heard about him but only ever seen pictures before. i've posted this video on my my blog in a post about him, i hope that's OK and will of course take it down if you prefer.
I am so moved by this film. I can't truly express my feelings after seeing this. Happy, sad and a sense of longing all rolled into a bursting heart full of love for this man and his family. Derek was such a generous person so full of shakti. I was so blessed to have been there sharing his teaching and life. He was my inspiration and teacher and he gave me my direction in life. His spirit is in all of us. Thank you Liam, Dennis and my Sister Kristina. I love you. Gingix
A truly inspiring teacher, and two deeply blessed children--
Thank you for revealing this valuable treasure to us, it makes us so much stronger and happier, deepening our practice, our spirit, and together our teaching--
As it is said.... a teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary..
Unfortunatelly and despite the force of his will, Derek may isn't between us, but his presence and teachings strongly remains so in spirit as in action.. Kristina Karytinou-Ireland shares the knowledge and spreads Derek's teachings to all of her students with a unique and warmhearted way..
a big thanks to Dennis and Liam for this work of art!!
Amazing video...speaks right through the heart.the complete Derek's intimacy with the surround nature and with his true nature reflects us how our practice can be an inspiring way of living into this life. I feel so lucky to be connected with his beautiful spirit through my teacher Kristina Karitinou-Ireland and his beautiful children who edited this masterpiece.

Derek was also my first Astanga Vinyasa teacher in London with Radha. A wonderful experience and such a sad early death..

Beautiful video... Derek moves through the series like he's flowing with the waves in front of him...
I was unlucky and did not meet him, but he is one of my teachers and inspirations. I recognize his essence in my own practice and in my teaching.
His presence remains in Triopetra.
