@BAIYUE1 sounds interesting, except that lunar calender is used in many agricultural civilizations, plus what Chinese and Vietnamese are using is Lunisolar calendars. Bai Yue indeed goes back 3000 years but the question is how you define "Chinese". If you say Han ethnic group then it makes more sense. I'm no historian but I deem Yue as part of China looking from a modern perspective, not mentioning Vietnam is under the jurisdiction of Chinese kingdom for over 1000 years.

And Vietnamese is also descendant of Bai Yue people. Every ethnic has their new year as Thailand or Lao, Campuchia in April, China,Vietnam follow tradition of rice civilization of Bai Yue.

In past, each dynasty of Chinese has lunar new year in different months, but Vietnamese new year (Lunar new year) never change time from 4000 years to now.

Qin, who conquered most of the modern China area actually used Xia calendar. But anyway, like you said, there were different civilizations and the modern nation structure does not represent that entirely. I have some very good Vietnamese friends and I'm happy that we share history. Plus, cheers for your last comment.
