don't get me wrong, I totally agree! Coetzee's wit is hugely underestimated. I think I meant that it was "a wonder to behold" in that it seems that he doesn't often set out to make people laugh in social sitations.
If I won a million dollars, I'd spend it trying to get him and Joan Didion into the same room, although I get the weird feeling they'd regard each other like skittish housecats.
He also has a cleaver very nice face
