  • do you keep the sump light on same time as the main tank? I want to do this to one of my tanks to keep the nitrates down. Did you notice a decrease in Nitrates when you started this up?

  • I try to keep the sump light on a lot, hoping that the java moss will grow faster. I do not check the nitrates, I just keep stuffing java moss into the sump from my planted aquarium with CO2.... Java moss is the best for this stuff

  • @bobbieward1234 hornwort absorbs nitrates faster if thats what your looking for and because it absorbs it faster it grows like a weed. thats just what i have read I do not really know from experience.

  • I made sure that the return line was elevated with a small piece of tube so that if the power went out it would not overflow. I did this my turning off the power on the pump and adjusted the return line accordingly until the water did not come close to overflowing in the refugium. I also kept the overflow box as high as possible to the surface so as soon as water was reduced the overflow box quit working
