This is a somewhat lesser known hit from them but a great song. The Beatles always said the Searchers were one of their favorite groups & they ,, along w/ the Holies had some of the best harmonies of the British invasion groups. Songs w/ melodies & harmonies, what a novel concept!!!!

I loooove this song, it is just great all the way around. I love the lyrics - so true - and the rhythm of the song is very, very appealing. Thank you for this great post.
wow this song is for all the women of all ages who give their whole self to a relationship; I'm talking about EVERYTHING: Their <3, devotion, soul, time, effort, money, dreams, future, thoughts...EVERYTHING - for that SIGNIFICANT other to just take it all and throw it back in their face.
Don't give up on you. I almost did. I used to be one of those girls. I tried fixing a broken guy. You know what happens though? You become the broken one. When that same amount of effort isn't returned. :'( </3

@vanislefan Great music will never be forgotten. There will always be a younger generation that likes what is current but the old songs will be around forever.
So strange how come a tune so powerfully remind me and maybe many of us out there of a special connection or dead-end street. This one surely was in my great heartache period. Yet ... still so much love this song by the Searches... jolly good lads they were :-)
When I was a kid (1964, 1966...) in Detroit, I had a little am radio taped between the handlebars of my bike. Every week, there were new songs released. It was always exciting and fun to hear the latest Beatles, Motown, British invasion, etc. when I rode to school. Life was good!
having been in a rock band most of my teen years the searchers were a favorite of mine. we would try to copy their sound when possible, sorry 2 of them are deceased. this was the time of great music that i still listen to. rock and roll forever.
@PaulDePace jimmy wisner wrote this the orlons did it first a little differant with the oriental sounding guitar riff on piano then jimmy wisner produced jim and jeans album people world another venture into the folk rock idiom
Excellent sound. I remember the 60s. Unfortunately there is no going back. Some have the balls to call some of the crap on radio "music." The 60s groups were inovated & talented. I like Gerry & the Pacemakers too!
Actually, "Needles and Pins" was cowritten by Sonny Bono. "Don't Throw Your Love Away" was a Billy Jackson / Jim Wisner composition originally recorded by the Orlons in 1963.
My mom used to play all this music when I was really little! She was a real 60s chick and I love the 80s!! But this music is really soft, gentle and sweet. I love it!!
this song really grows on you; when I first heard it on an oldies station, i thought it was the worst song i ever heard, but here I am willingly listening to it!
A tremendously beautiful swirl of harmony & melody. As a proud baby-boomer growing up in NYC exposed to the incredibly exciting 60's, this particular jewel will always be a staple during that fantastic time in my youth when along with rich quality in music, one felt the positive lessons & hopes relating to love & dreams. Excellent song...excellent group!!
If they were good enough to be the Beatles fave group, that says it all! This particular version does justice to the harmony the 4 original Searchers had. They were my #1; still are; and the 60's were the best -- especially the British Invasion!
The Searchers used suspended chords in a few of their songs (incl this & 'Needles' !) Chords to 'Don't throw' are: (Beginning) Dsus4, D, Dsus2, D. (Verse) D, Bm, D, Bm, C, D. (Middle) Bm, G, Bm, G, Am, Bm, - C, Bm, C, Bm, Asus4, A, Am, A, back to D. Gazzmodo.
Chris Curtis, the Drummer and Leader was a genius. He did the arrangements, chose the songs, and brought the harmony and percussion to the Searchers that made them so unique. He is also deceased! There is no need to be disrespectful, vikesh81!
I don't remember hearing the signature guitar riff in this song until I heard this band. That particular riff really was picked up by many other bands. The guitar riff in "Needles and Pins" is quite similar. The chord structure in the bridge is simply brilliant. I was captivated by their sound at the tender age of 14 when this came out.
It was a trip. Saw Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Stones, Cliff Richard and the Shadows, The Kinks, The Small Faces, Moody Blues, and tons of others. I wouldn't trade that time for a million quid !!
WOW... I'm jealous! British Invasion was where it was at!!! I was a teen at that time...if I could go back in time it would be to see the Beatles "forming" at the Star Club... The Cavern... and see some of the great BI groups you saw in person!!!
Sometimes called "teen music' of the era, in my 50's now remembering them; they came in mid stream sort of to the Beatles not getting deserved recognition, say like the Seekers did who had more head start. This is another favorite to me.
Sad to learn that two of four band members singing this lovely song passed away in this decade. They were such a wonderful band. I'm so fortunate to have grown up with their music.
The Searchers had a great many wonderful songs, but I must confess this is one of my favorites. Just love their sound, naturally, so evocative of the 60s, a fabulous time in musical history for a ton of great groups and songs. Just wonderful. Thank you for this post.
