Download the 3.0 firmware. Open itunes. on the device page Press shift and click restore. Select the newest firmware and it will restore to factory default. after that use redsnow to jailbreak it. and ultrasnow to unlock it

No, currently iPhone 3GS can't be jailbroken but iPhone 3G running 3.0 can. but the 3GS will more than likely be jailbroken in the near future.

Just to update everyone, several things had to be accomplished before Ultrasnow could be released and their were a few bugs to be worked out. Everything was finished by this morning more or less, last I heard the ultrasn0w payloader has been added to the loader succesfully and testing is happening now... should not be too much longer just be patient

You will need to upgrade to 3.0 via itunes 8.0 then jailbreak via pwnage3.0 for mac or redsn0w for windows, once jailbroke you can download ultrasn0w via cydia, installer or icy from your iphone. however it has not been released, the first release date was last friday, however they ran into problems i explained below, and claimed they would have it out by monday? so we will have to wait for the DevTeam to release it.
