Now I see why Tim Burton said that he was holding 'Black Sunday' in his mind while shooting 'Sleepy Hollow': the same dark colours, the same haunting music, the same stage scenery with all those curved trees, and even the same weird effect of "being there". This film also reminds me of 'The City of the Dead' (or 'Horror Hotel', as they usually say in the USA) starring Christopher Lee.

Bava was an artist, a conjurer who worked with very little, yet produced eeriness worthy of an old Universal film. Yes, you can see how Bava has influenced so many other filmmakers!

His every film is a piece of art, "a painting in motion" I would say. I am very fond especially of 'The Whip and the Body' beacuse of Christopher Lee at his finest and entrancing music I still can't get out of my head.
