  • May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • @SaddleSoreSista1 I think Ms Steele left an open invitation for rumor, as far as ones about her sexuality are concerned, in the form of this song. What boggles the mind is that there's even any need for secrecy surrounding matters of sexual preference in this day and age. Good for her. It's not like I ever had a shot with her, anyhow.

  • happy birthday michael :)

  • This is one of my favourites and I think if released now as a single it would do very well. Its an extraordinary song written and sung by Michael Steele. What is most intriguing is the ambiguity in the lyrics. The gender of the ex-lover is not explicitly stated, although ambiguities in the lyrics suggest that the narrator may be referring to a female ex-lover. Steele has indicated that Following was derived from personal experience, stating in a 2003 internet chat: "high school sweetheart."

  • @SaddleSoreSista1 Is Micki a lesbian or bi?

(Sorry I used Micki, I saw a pic of her when she was briefly in the Runaways and her shirt read Micki Steele)

  • @MermaidBlueFins I don't have the answer to that question of whether Michael Steeles, is gay, bi or straight, most discussions around Michael Steele's sexuality are based on pure rumour. I like the song Following, and find the ambiguity in the lyrics intruiging. But then many of her lyrics are like that, who she is speaking about in the song isn't explicitly stated.

  • one of my FAVORITE SONGS.....

  • Exellent piece. Always leaves me wanting more...

  • I too have always been intrigued by this song .. . just what is it about anyway?

  • Michael Steele's voice is great in this, a great song. They should have never broken up.

  • @christoJihad2 In case you didn't know, they've been back together, but without Ms. Steele.

  • @gh9448 She was with them briefly tho, but she left again.

  • @christoJihad2

They are on tour now suposedelly

  • Well bangles never been underrated band they are most appreciated band everywhere!!!!!!

  • I always loved this song, I still have it on vinyl.

  • Michael Steele was the one in the band who could've been a star on her own. This song was haunting...

  • Beautiful in its simplicity, this is just about the best thing the Bangles did, and I think they did some great stuff. It has a real atmospheric sound to it, I could listen to it over and over.

  • Awesome stuff!

  • Love Michael's hair... Only she'd probably die before she actually let anyone see her in the get up! Nice jobs with the lights by the way.

Along with September Gurls, these are some of Different Light's best songs.

  • Their greatest low-key song.

  • such a beautiful song

  • you seriously don't like susanna? wtf!

  • Darlin' ~ don't discredit Susanna. A great group is still the sum of its parts. And she was an irreplaceable part of the Bangles' unique sound - each one truly gifted in their own right. The Bangles were one of the best things to come out of the (sometimes very silly) eighties. ;o].

  • The drumstick on the edge of the drum is brilliant. Such an empty, lonely sound.

  • This is a classic track... Different Light LP had so many classics.

  • One of my all time favorite Bangles songs!

  • Such a beautiful song from such an underrated band. Brilliant.

  • hi dave here this best song they done in my opinion misskate class track

  • Loved this track when I was younger

Today is the first time i've listened in maybe 20 years and its still great.

  • WOW!

I've listened to that song (and "Not like you") so many times in 1987, my cassette broke.

Great job with the flashlights! (0:55 ++)

Keep up the good (and so creative) work!
