I can't understand why they ditched this song, because, hearing it now in high quality after all these years, it's one of their sharpest, most intense songs from that period. Cracking good rhythm, good tune, it has energy and presence. And Bernard's lyrics are quite good for that time, they kind of hold together well, and he sounds like he is expressing something inside himself in an honest way. Which is what always set that band apart from others.
This (and all the other Western Works tracks) is still available over at The Power of Independent Trucking blog, as lossless FLAC from the presumed-master reel! You will have to search for the blog title with the words Western Works in the search phrase as well, as YouTube won't let me put the URL in here.
Definitely finding their feet with this. 'Homage' is to New Order what 'Novelty' is to Joy Division, i.e it is of completely different style to any of their other tracks. This is the nearest they came to sounding like Steve's beloved Can. He's having a field day on the drums! Officially the Cabs' Chris Watson handled 'production duties' on this session.
Brilliant, just brilliant...New Order at their eeriest. I've had this for donkey's years on a bunch of tapes & dubious vinyl (the EP sounds like it was recorded at the far end of a railway tunnel); this is magnificent quality - THANKS for sharing, made my Sunday. Now, give us the Western Works versions of 'Truth' & 'Dreams Never End' in similarly pristine condition and I promise to have your babies.
Yeah, it's definitely not a bad track, and I can't see why they didn't release it. Movement was a short album and it could have done with another track or two. They did play it live a few times though.
cant make out single word from barnie

Funny how some of their most obscure songs rank amongst their best - Temptation 7", Turn the heater on, now this.

@djh29971 Not really - I think this would have fitted nicely into their first album "Movement" - for example, listen to The Him.

Sucks that it never got beyond demo-stage. Wonder what it would've sounded like if Martin Hannett worked his magic on it.
