That's a couple early songs by Bob Marley and the Wailers: Mr Brown, Soul Rebel and Mellow Mood at the end. I love the early stuff by the Wailers, and you don't hear it as much as the later hits.
Out of all the interesting faces and people in the world and through history, you decide to draw that skank whore?! She's certainly not worthy of my time, effort and ability.
Oh please. It's a damn drawing. I guess you think Warhol was a big fan of Mao Zedong? Personally I think referring to her as a skank whore is sexist. Perhaps she is not that intelligent, untallented and undeserving of the attention she gets, but skank whore is offensive to women in general.
Why don't you draw Mother Theresa if your drawings are just about worthy subjects?
Nope. It ain't sexist. I wasn't generalising as I was talking just solely about her. It's just a fact. She parades about showing her tits, and she even has her own private little tape out. She's a real lady. Yep!
Warhol? Not a fan. I'm more of a Rembrandt fan. Pop art just ain't my thing.
ps. Picasso, he was a little different I think we'd agree. He wasn't a big star for his life paintings and portraits, that was an early stepping stone something else.
Not really. Well, he was different. I agree with that, but he was well known throughout his life for his life paintings and portraits. In fact his most abstract painting were always taken from life. What was amazing about him to me, was he would be working on three or four different styles at a time.
He would be working on surealistic paintings that inspired Miro, then at the same time be doing Titian influenced figure paintings, while also doing perfect realistic portraits of his son and then doing his most abstract portraits. That is what sets him above all others except perhaps Michelangelo.
dude don't even bother trying to eyeball it from a photograph, it will never come out right, instead trace it using a projector, now if u were doing it from life thats a different story, working from life is where the real art skills are
yeah nice effort dude, thenightsdomain..with all respect for photo references, photo copying in all it's extents is what children who haven't been shown the beauty of life drawing do.
I agree, man, the real skill is "observational" art, drawing from photos is a little provincial, and it limits the scope for practising, because IMHO a photo is a 2-D 'cypher', real life is infinite in the angles, lighting and preparation it gives the artist for compositional ideas right? what I STRONGLY believe.
i partly agree, however i do believe good art work can come from 2-D reference and it is not for "children who haven't been shown the beauty of life drawing" i think this statment is very offensive to younger artists , i beleive that art is a skill you either have, or you dont. also if you are doing a historical picture then you realy have no choice but to use 2-D ref. but i do agree that the lighting does help the accuracy of the shading (obviously lol)
my point is, consider that most able kids use photo references a lot, mostly because they are not yet skilled at representing 3D from life, arguing that they can't get famous people to pose is redundant, as even the youngest kid knows we do things on paper in class(be it sums or drawings) to 'take your chance, prove yourself', as this song illustrates.
ps. my view is talking about lighting on a 2D reference, (paper/ a single plane) seems facile to those who reference from 3D.
" to 'take your chance, prove yourself', as this song illustrates.
ps. my view is talking about lighting on a 2D reference, (paper/ a single plane) seems facile to those who reference from 3D."
I agree to a certain extent. I have done both actually, drawing/painting from life and from photos. From life is a different skill, but after drawing/painting from life for a while it gets very essy also.
Also, Picasso, perhaps the greatest artest ever, painted from life and from photos or other paintings. Painting from life in my opinion doesn't equate to being a better or more accomplished artist, but I do think it's a good skill to learn.
I'd still like to say painting from life is better and a richer experiment than producing carbon copies of photos (to me THAT lacks depth, compositional options (very limited man!) and requires more fundamental perceptual and motor skills, that should be advanced by painting from life from sittings as do 'real' portrait artists.
Regarding this painting, I haven't done parttraits in about 25 years so these painting on youtube are for fun and for getting back my "groove".
Nice to know you were listening to Bob Marley's words. Now, to quote Bob myself "I am a living man. I've got work to do" so off I go to do my work today.
Yeah go ahead dude, what you say is right, I am glad you produce observartional work, because that's like the 80 or 90 % of the iceberg that's lying beneath the identity of a fine-art painter.

i dont see the point in tracing any idiot could do that, and its not even you own work! the real skill is in drawing by hand.
