I agree, it's a major buzzkill when your GT40 sounds like a turbocharged popcorn machine about to break. I've never played Forza4 yet but am looking forward to the day....been playing 3 for the past year and so far I consider it to be the best. Gran Turismo has taken too many side-steps with each release, or only focus on 1 or 2 aspects and fail to deliver the rest...

I loved gaming until it stagnated (there is the "rare" gem of a game) but many games over the last 10 years haven't changed.

All i hear about now is COD and games of that ilk as well as racing games that don't add anything new. The market has been stifled by making sure fire sales bets without the risk.

Yes graphics are a huge selling point in today's market, quite possibly even more than gameplay it seems, but many developers adhere to the old adage that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' sort of attitude. I agree that the vast majority of improvements done contribute mostly toward graphical prowess, so in a sense they consider expanding on jaw-dropping graphics on a gameplay basis that is tried-and-true...

Gamers of this generation are spoiled, as well as deprived because they didn't live during a time when videogames were still in the process of evolution. If you try and introduce Donkey Kong or the original Super Mario Bros. to them you will get laughed at because like you said...graphics are the key factor that galvanizes the gamer into playing the game. It's nice to hear some insight from a person who had been playing since the 80's.

I've been playing games since 1990 and graphics were important to me back then too and still are today. Older gamers like to pretend this is not the case, just because graphics back then were bad in general. This is especially true for 3D graphics, less so with 2D which age much better.

Graphics have always been a selling point, right from back in the 80's, with those textual adventures that had pictures. Soon they went from that, to Monkey Island, and that was a big step. I've also been playing games since about 1990 and I've seen games being played right since I was born. I've got all the major consoles, even rare ones like the Jaguar and Sinclair ZX Spectrum (rubber keys). Gamers need to be able to step back, appreciate the older shit like I still do.

People who own the 360, PS3, etc. choose to purchase that particular system based on the belief that they will experience the absolute best visuals, sound, and realistic gameplay available.
