It much pleases me to find this song here! Thanks, Brent441! (^O^)[_]3
Grew up listening to my mom's old Gene cassettes, and even now can hardly throw together a playlist without Pitney. Must wave this find at my friends...
Donnie Brooks sang this and it became his only top 10 hit..Donnie Brooks is in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He almost quit but Johnny and Dorsey Burnette encouraged him to continue. He had 4 top 40 records. If Gene liked a record and could do it justice he sang it. Was Donnie's version better? Probably. Was Genes version excellent? Yes. Gene and Roy Orbison were in a class by themselves in my opinion. Both sang others' hit songs though . Sometimes better and sometimes not, but ALWAYS well done!
@hajune this was on genes album golden greats produced by jimmy wisner as was people world by jim and jean [ check the jim and jean club in myspace ]
yes, I remember this song well, it was very nice. The words have meaning, and they make sense, unlike so many songs of today. People knew how to compose their thoughts and put it to music, to be a blessing to the world. Is it any wonder people bought this record. I AM John
Good Lord!! I'll bet Gene is rolling in his grave over some of these comments!! He knew his first duty was to entertain-and entertain he did!! I'm a very loyal fan of Gene's--probably because I'm old enough to recall most of his career highlights. He wasn't trying to be the god of rock 'n roll--he just simply loved it enough and could sing it heartfully enough that made others want to hear his music, too. Thank you Mr. Pitney--I miss you!
Gene pitney was a great singer,as well as a very nice person.Thats why he stood the test of time.He wrote songs taht were hits for others,as well as hits for himself.
You are disgusting, and clearly need to learn some manners,as you do not know what you are talking about.
When did this artist sing this song,It is Gene Pitney. I have some contacts with Gene Pitneys Sisters, at one time. It's sad he's gone. YOu know when you choose not to like an artist, how about keeping it to yourself?. There are many others that do. The moderator has the power to remove commets and bar people, correct?. Thanks for posting.
gene did an lp called golden greats which had this and other cover versions like youve lost that lovin feeling and count me in jimmy wisner produced it he also produced people world by jim and jean and played harpsichord on differant drum by linda ronstadt

Pidgeon you are one sick piece of work, your mother should have stuck a bar of soap in your mouth. Now get back on your medication. I know you are putting on all those negative checks up but most people who listen to the two knows the best version.

god damnit this guy sounds like a fag! cant belive people listened to this pisspoor excuse for singing. my dog can fart a better tune than this greasy hair homo.
you need to clean your ears out. Gene Pitney had so many hits and wrote so many. I doubt if you have ever done anything...thats why you cut his singing. He wasn't gay but wouldn't have matter anyway ...I mean who really care if someone is gay or not..what's the difference ...He was one of our best artists of yesteryear and today. Gene Pitney's songs will live on forever!!

I totally agree, Donnie Brooks version is much better than this. I think the background vocals is what really did it for me, they sound as if this a R&B song as opposed to rock-n-roll. This version just doesn't cut it.

Gene Pitney put to shame Donnie Brooks version, just as he did Jay Black's version of Cara Mia, and Roy Orbison's version of Crying.....He was definetly one of the very best.
