  • can you use a nife instead of rock

  • @321098aj nope, it has to be flint

  • using a larger file you should be able to do this with any king of rock.

  • where do you get the original flint from?

  • Is that firestone?

  • yes

  • 1 mistake will make u cut ur hand

  • Not of the flint has no edges on it, he was using a file remember.

  • where did you get the flint stone from?

  • Files are high carbon steel and so are strikers, I make my strikers from files by forging them, also springs are high carbon steel but a bit awkward to hold, good video mate and you dont need to talk cause as its visually explained

  • wat type of rock did u use

    (respond back plz)

  • It's flint stone.

  • @bradwjensen It's onondaga chert. To be honest, you can get a spark out of any dense stone with an edge on it provided your steel is good.

  • @antagonizerr The spark doesn't come from the stone, it comes from the metal shavings and friction from the file hitting the stone.

  • @BKMillMan That's right, however the point was that the stone needs to be able to maintain a sharp edge in order to shave the steel, hence things like sandstone wouldn't work. Thanks for the input tho.

  • Audio with your videos is much more instructive. Love them by the way.

  • yea were do u find flint is it only north usa cuz im in florida

  • Flint is a sort of stone u don´t buy it.

    U find it

  • But you can buy "commercial flint and steel kits" in military shops which isnt really a flint and steel, but it works the same way. And you dont have to search

  • Hmm...I didn´t know that.

Maybe it´s because I´m from Sweden.

  • hey where can u buy a flint please please message back and please be specific

  • flint/magnesium $6 wal mart.Use dryer lint to start a fire I have a video where we start a fire using lint dipped in wax this is a good preparation b/c it is waterproof and keeps your lint dry for when you need it the wax gives you plenty time to build a great fire. I take a coffee filter place some lint in it seal it with a bread wrapper drop them in melted wax do this 2x to waterproof. When you need it cut it open and spark.

  • fotr better sparks try using a bigger file and strike the file using flint.

  • The idea was to show people that you can make sparks with a cheap 50 cent file, and that expensive fire steels are nice but not necessary. If you look at the flint striking vid I posted, you'll see how much faster it is to strike the flint with the steel.
