  • who posted this thank you so much

  • @karkar441. Don't look at me.......

  • ROD IS HOT AS IT GETS ON THIS ONE HE JUST IS WAAAAY ABOVE ALL MEN ON EARTH WHEN HES ON THR FREEKIN SEXY METER LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why is Jonathan Peel there ?

Love Rod, seen him lots of times, always professional. Loved the musical about Rod the sex God, great that he didnt have to die for them to appreciate him. Pleased he got to see it too.

    Forever young is my favourite.

  • @Makethemhearragtime Hey there, Am not 100% sure on this, but the person that was meant to do that part was unwell ( probably self induced ) and Rod being the guy he is, just kinda asked him to fill the space to make it look good !!

Have a wee look thru the net to find out the truth, but from what I have looked at so far, that seems to be the reason!!

    Enjoy!

  • Awesome!!

  • Props for telling the truth about the participation of John Peel in this performance

  • Great song and video. Thanks for posting.

  • Great! The one dislike to date must be for that idiot, Steve Wright, talking rubbish at the begining.

  • I prefer describing live performances as awesome or fantastic before I say pre-recorded ones are. But that's just me.

  • The music isn't live. The singing might be.

  • @RoboSlater Agree with you 100% my friend no way is that music live!!!!! Drummer of 43yrs....

  • awesome classic song!! seen him many times!! great!! saw him in 71 too.

  • Gotta share...1971. First time I saw Rod Stewart. No seats...On the floor. Lotsa pushing and shoving. Therefore, teenager that I was....got on the stage. He kinda scooted me to the side and there I stayed for the rest of the concert.....What a night. Got the drumsticks...Will never forget it. Was great. That started the days of my wearing a shag haircut. Copying Rod. Have seen him many times since and still love him.

  • Rod Rocks.

    Beautiful Ballad.

    Marvellous Marone Sexy Suit.

  • Is that Kenny Jones on drums?

  • @BobiusBrown1. Yep, full band member details now in description

  • @BobiusBrown1

Miming to Micky Waller's drum track.

  • my all-time favorite song!!!!!!!!!

  • These guys aren't really playing their instruments and Rod is only lip syncing, but it is entertaining with them goofing off!!!

  • @DonaldEzell hello.the guys arent playing but Rods actually singing.Notice he varies a lot in the verses and sings some parts in a different key.

  • Other that Rod Stewart, Ronnie Lane, and Ron Wood...who are the other guys playing?

  • @mykylc John Peel on mandolin...

  • @mykylc Ian McLagan, Kenny Jones ..... and John Peel. (But 'Peely' wasn't actually playing the mandolin; he was just pretending to.)

"Maggie May" was the number one sound across the nation exactly 40 years ago this week; in October 1971. I wonder if it seems that long ago to Stewarty ... probably not ! I'll bet that he wishes he was young and in his prime again.

  • @TheEctomorph sweet!!! Thanks!

  • For me this video has everything. Firstly brilliant lyrics and musicality served up with humour, playful antics (I mean skillful footy) a lot of bouncing, singing and smiling with original, destined to become trademark, 70's hairstyles. Oh, nearly forgot - the clothes to die for!

  • @Butterfly1Blue Can't forget their hair ! haha

  • his voice sounds cracked

  • Which version is this song? It has slightly different lyrics and I like this version more than the other versions.

  • does any1 else think the black crowes were really influinced by the faces

  • I taped this alternate take off the television 40 years ago, and now I get to hear AND SEE it again!!!

  • So fucking good...why did Rod turn into such a clown with the easy listening crooner shit?

  • John Peel isn't really playing, nor did he play in the original song. He's just miming to the original track. The original guy got 50 Pounds for playing mandolin in this song. Kind of sad.

  • @SteelerEagleFan

The original mandolin solo was played by Lindisfarne's Ray Jackson. He was robbed!!

  • @BigAl1244 Well said mate very true

  • Was this really forty years ago? I am so stinkin' old!

  • @hopefloats57 Maybe, but consider the alternative.

  • CLASSIC.

  • Estos son the Faces...corrijan.

  • Dude he was playin soccer on stage rod stewart is boss!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • BOLA DE MARICONES, COMO TODOS LOS INGLESES DE MIERDA....

  • @lavergatuya1 No digas esto, soy latino, y me gusta esta musica.

  • Couple of things, yes they were miming the damned thing, they had to, they were to STONED, not DRUNK.

John Peel was just there to make it look better by having the mandolin, but this song is one of my faves! First, this is the same year as I was born, but I have a feeling that the song first came out in 70!! Second, you can tell he was stoned thru this as he got his verses mixed up and made a complete mess of it.

As for the footie, Its ROD!! Sighhh!

BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER !! Still a class vid :)

  • @AbzWayne

    but....totp always mimes....?

  • haha John Peel!

  • Ron Wood looks already old...

  • Cool song. Thanks for uploading the video.

  • great..

    Nonthaburi

    THAILAND

  • still go to love steve wrights voice haha

  • No foreign in your videos? VAI TOMAR NO CU SEU FILHO DA PUTA.

  • They're making it blatently obvious that they're not playing their instruments

  • why not? are you so limited ? juegan al fulbito y vos sos un gringo bestia...:)

  • Can you believe this October will mark the 40th anniversary of when "Maggie May" and Stewart's album "Every Picture Tells a Story" hit #1 in England AND America? In my opinion, that's a record that will never be matched. Ironic this performance came in the same month it occurred (I'm betting Stewart crapped his underwear when he heard it). A classic example of why 1971 was the greatest year Rock and Roll ever had. Or as what Paul Simon said: "For me the 60's ended in 1971."

  • still a classic after all this time!!!!

  • haha "no foreign language" might as well not allow black people to comment either huh? but i noticed that they are not playing their instruments.

  • Christ! all this cool stuff was going on and I was only 4 years old! I missed out on such a great era!

  • yo this is the faces not just rod stewart better recognize

  • impresionante lo del fulbito, que grandes Rod y Ronnie!!

  • @TheRoute19 ok chupala qué vas a saber de fulbito y sentimientos, otario

  • @TheRoute19

You can always learn some Spanish, or use the Google translator. The comment you call 'graffiti' was a nice comment about your video. It was something like: 'impressive the football part, great Rod and Ronnie!'... it's impossible to translate 'fulbito', it is like... little football (in a familiar way). The so called foreign language seems to have some stronger expresions, you know...

  • @TheRoute19 dude... this vid is public... 'foreign languge'? hmmmm CHINK MUCH ^^

  • @TheRoute19 go fuck, racist. Suck my foot

  • @TheRoute19 your language is fuck like all gringos and inglesfuckedshit asshole...

  • @TheRoute19

What right do you have to insult someone's language? That person left a nice comment in Spanish.....

People might say that English is "foreign language graffiti" as it's borrowed so much from other languages and then butchered the words. I suggest you stop acting like an idiot and keep your mouth shut next time.

  • @TheRoute19 this the internet dick

  • @TheRoute19 Am sorry, but its the internet, you gotta expect to get world-wide comments on your vids!!!

  • @juanecuervoystone Si, es verdad! Yup, it's true! They rock!

  • I remember this on Top of the Pops when I was 17 and I nearly fell off my chair been smitten by The Rod ever since.

  • Absolutely Brilliant !

  • Man, what a time for Rod and Ronnie to play about?

When Wood's supposed to be pretending to play a solo?!

  • Man, Rod Stewart has been playing with Ronnie Wood for a LONG time hasn't he?

    39 years

  • Why's John Peel pretending to play a mandolin?

I think he was a fan of Rod's wasn't he? At the time?

  • lovely and divine.....this is the very first song i heard of rod when i was just a small kid......thats why im a big fan of rod..thank you for the memories.......

  • PURE CLASS!!!

  • look at the face he makes at 2:53
