It is a bit easier if you keep the pedal to the metal even during the jump. I don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth a try. If you "ouch," well, don't know what to tell ya then.

Yeah, you and Bladerift are right. Get lined up asap after the last column and put the pedal to the metal- doesn't seem to matter whether you go past on the right or left side of the column - just go very straight and flat out. Great game!

oh getting out of the warthog at 5:55 is dangerous, i did that once and the stupid banshee bombed it right over the edge, tried to run the rest of the way but had forgotten the huge gap you jump down. had to start the whole level over, and it was on legendary:(
