I hiked it last year and would do it again. I wore a rock climbing harness and clipped in to the cables - mainly to re-assure my brain but it worked great! Glad they are requiring permits every day this year. I did it on a Monday and it took TWO HOURS to get up the cables because it was so crowded.

It seems is really fun, however and fom my point of view (I am a climber), I do believe this is really dangerous, no one seems to have a rope no either an arness like the "via ferrata" ???
@rokibros agrred, i'm a climber too, this is dangerous, these peolple are not used to verticality, if one of them falls they will all fall like dominos and, besides, this cables are unrespectable for the mountain, they are just orrible, they ruin the landscape
That is awesome. I have hiked half dome 3 times!!!!!!!!! We are going to Yosemite this week. I want to hike it again. It is one of the greatest accomplishments I have ever done. I completed the hike once at 19, then 29 and 31. I am now 42 and want to see if I have it in me again to do. Thanks for the great video!!!!
Actually, it's closer to 5000' of elevation gain. Regardless, great video. I'll be hiking up Half Dome next weekend (Aug. 2, 2008) for the second time (weather permitting). I can assure you that I will NOT be bringing a video camera.

The cables actually aren't that scary and its sad how a lot of people do the hike but stop at the cables because they're afraid of the cables.

i did it for my first time and i thought the cables were pretty easy going up and down. but the hike is the thing that really hurts you.
