Wow, Betty! Those look absolutely beautiful & delicious!!!!!! But, if I were to make them, my dipping sauce would be barbecue sauce, or ketchup. :) But, my Mom is a diabetic, so we have to use canola oil, and it tastes just as good as vegetable oil. But, I would love to make homemade mini corn dogs!
Get a box of toothpicks and rig up each lil corn dog with it's own lil tiny stick for a bonus. I made some of these for our family's new year's eve party (which is nothing BUT non-stop appetizers) and they absolutely loved them. Thanks for sharing, Betty. :)
wow that looks good and portable good for appetizer or snack will try if i can find the mini hotdogs in halal meet :) or i may just cut regular hotdog, would that work?:)
Never ever tried corn dogs. I live in the UK so it's quite unusual to find them here... but I'm going to try this recipe. Looks like fun to make and they look nice! :D
@deliciousdivaL It would be hard to keep a batter on while baking; however, you might make a dry coating using cornmeal. Flavor it in any way that you like and make sure the Li'l Smokies are wet enough to get the coating to hang on. You may need to dip them in beaten egg first, but if you can get the coating to stick, there is no reason that you can't bake these!
Betty is there a Reason you use peanut oil ? does it it give it a extra special taste or its more healthy i would like to know :) Nice videos Keep them up!
@r1cky8807 Thanks for your nice comment! When you fry anything, you need the temperature to be 350 degrees (F) or higher. Some oils (like olive oil) will smoke at high temperatures. Peanut oil has a high smoking point, so you don't need to worry about that so much. You may, however, use a different oil, if you like.
They look and sound lovely, its like a hot dog, right? =/ but i'd like something else to do with 'hot dogs' then deep frying,do you have any alternative recipies? x
@MissieMai I have a recipe for "Pigs in a Blanket," which is baked. I used Vienna sausage, but you could easily substitute Little Smokies or small pieces of hot dogs. The link is here:
@multisusana20 You may use 1 cup of the cornmeal mix in place of the 1/2 cups of cornmeal and flour, and then leave out the salt or reduce it quite a bit.
Ahhh, this is FANTASTIC! I live in England where Corndogs just aren't sold anywhere. I got a taste for them on holiday and now I can finally make them at home. I will definitely be taking these in my lunches.
Im behind on my Betty's Kitchen! To the viewer who asked if they could substitute polenta, the answer is no. It's a totally different product, and is manufactured differently. If you use polenta, you'll have a coating, but it will be like comparing orange to green, for lack of better words. It will be heavy and not really what a corndog would taste like.
i need to make these!!!!! im having a super bowl party!!!! i've been watching all your super bowl videos!!!!!thank you Betty & Rick!!!!! my son is gonna love these!!!!
Hi Betty, i doubt any of the store near you would carry it, but I would LOVE to see you try 'Vegemite' and maybe even make a recipe out of it. It's an Australian spread that you can put on sandwiches. Its reaaaly salty but I love seeing people that arent Australian trying it.
I have a request for you. Some of us have allergies, and I've really never so much as smelled a corn-dog let alone taste it. But they look so delicious.
I'm allergic to Nuts, Peanuts, and Eggs. Is there a way you could show how to cook an allergy-friendly corn-dog?
After all that hard work betty seemed more interested in the mustard and the little bite and petitte figure suggests she doesn't eat the food she cooks too much, not that there's anything wrong in that. Looked great.

@clanGAMEING Canola oil works fine. Some people don't like to use it, so you might want to use a standard vegetable oil.
