When I was a mechanic back in the 1980's I had the opportunity to work on a few genuine AC Cobras. The first thing is you don't sit in one, you sit ON it, your head and shoulders stick way out of the cockpit. You wear the seat harness because the damn things are so fast, you need the harness to keep you from flying out over the trunk. The second thing is, they are so damn fast!

Now that I am old and can afford these things I bought an ERA replica GT-40. You don't sit in this car you lay in it.

The newer Cobras are probably much safer to drive, the original ones had a stone age suspension under them.

Simon's toy is NOT an original Shelby Cobra. It was most likely built by AC Motor Holdings the modern day version of the company that built the original AC Cobras. You could say that it is an AC Cobra just because of who manufactured it, but it is far from an original. It has an AUTOMATIC GEARBOX!!! WTF!!! James, at least you have a manual tranny in your beautiful car. Cheers

@Watsupwiya:: By the time Carrol Shelby came out with the 427 SC there was very little left of the "Original" AC car..The original frame was 'replaced' with a four inch tube frame, the engine of course a Ford FE,the body a hand hammered aluminum job, fender-flared to the max, the rear-end was Jaguar or Halibrand??? IRS rear.....Really it was A "built-up" car with parts @ components from around the world, brought together by CS. Very little different from the "Reproductions" now on the road.
