  • could you talk just a slight bit slower?

  • Dude, I really enjoyed that, FFS put a link to the drop!!!!! That was sooo going somewhere.

  • Was anyone else actually enjoying the tune at the end, shame it was so short :( :P

  • how bout tips on sweeps

  • Could you please put the Ableton file up for download?

  • this is the old deadmau5... i'm sure that not so many persons could use modular synths to make a wobble bass

  • this is a good tut for people who know their way around synthesis & production, but that's probably not most people who want to make DM5-ish music

  • probably a stupid question, but any idea how to do this same thing through logic or reason? they are laid out a bit differently, so I'm not sure how to get quite the same sound... Thanks!

  • Is the very beginning of the video part of a deadmau5 song?

  • Fuck the end sounded so pro. :)

  • is that build-up around 3:59 just reverb?

  • @Jordanj425 I think he's raising the cut off of the sound.

  • Could put the ableton template file up for download?

  • those hats sound like ass but impressive none the less

  • Could someone pleeeeeease help me find this VST? I've been looking for it everywhere!

  • That made me want to get Abelton. Thanks, sounds just like DM5.

  • makes me sad this can all be down in one program. where have the real synth musicians gone! FUUUCCCCAAAKKK!!

  • @id300129 Have you seen what the hardware costs? How can you be mad that more people can produce high level music quicker, cheaper and more transportable? You want music to be an exclusive club that only the rich can afford to perform? Go look up the cost and size of all those hardware components and think about what you would rather pay/carry around for the next 20 years. Something upgradeable, portable and affordable OR Many things expensive, heavy with fixed capabilities?

  • Could you please make a tutorial where show everything you do? like all the presets for the reverb and stuff like that? that would be really helpful :)

  • lies. Deadmau5 invented everything

  • @ebdadankness Exactly. You know, i bet the creator of this video is a Atheist. Damn nonbelievers.

  • urgh stop replying to everybody elses comments and comment on this video rather than on another comment. I wanna read what people think about the video goddammit

  • finally a real fuckin precise deadmau5 syth. It gives that awesome full mastered sound which most tutorials dont have

  • The Minimoog V is good but I personally prefer Sylenth, and the advantage of that is you could apply the reverb, eq and compression within the synth (letting you save it as a single preset). Still, good work man.

  • this sounds more trancy to me, but still amazing

  • the main difference is that joel uses actual physical synths.

  • LOVE this video!!!!! Great Job

  • the more i use ableton the more i realize how much i love fl studio.

  • @heca906 I do consider it a must heca, yeah, seems pretty much like what I need, still haven't been able to take more courses due to my limited free time studying advertising, thanks for your advice.

  • WOAH IZ DIS SKWILLEX?

  • @anonsib2 ITINK SO

ALL U NEED IS ABASIC OSCILLTOR!

  • Deadmau5 uses hardware analog synthesizers, hence why most can't get that smooth, warm sound.

  • this is one of those crappy youtube videos that he is talking about ! LMAO!!

  • you did really explain shit... lol maybe you should start from scratch and show every step!

  • is this part of a deadmau5 song remade? or is it just a chord progression using his instrumentation?

  • @lanswipe the chord progression is typical to deadmau5. its prob just a different key. in fact, this chord progression is typical to about 90% of music you listen to, just in different keys, inversions, and tempos.

not talking shit. i love deadmau5. and i like this video.

  • Cool.

  • Dude, instead of explain how to even do it you spent most of your time talking about how "not difficult it is." You're a douchebag. Please die.

  • @GeoffPlaysKeys Because its not. It's like the first thing you learn bro.

  • With a sound THAT DEEP I think the percussion you introduced is a bit too rezzy. I felt like a fish being yanked out of the beautiful ocean.

  • oh my god... i want to learn to make music so bad... where the hell do i start?

  • @McBango Make a track, whether it's good or bad... that's where you start.

  • @whiteslash

Lol i know! I have ableton 8 and ive been trying to learn the basics for the past 15 hours now. :X

  • @McBango OW 15 HOURS????!!!! SOMEONE CALL THIS BABY A WAAAAMBULENCE

  • @RoboticusMusic

    Trolololololol

  • @whiteslash That's not really how it works. You can't just download software and expect to be able to make a track there without knowing anything prior.

  • @kylemproductions Ofc you can. I never got lessons, I just started off by playing piano (no lessons, just some basic research on scales and stuff) and playing with FL studio, learned stuff, 8 months and about 30 tracks later, well I got some stuff down, and I know I'm still lacking a shitload of knowledge, but as you should know, it is a constant learning process. My advice if anyone wants to start making music is to BEGIN. Look me up in soundcloud: whitestariv

  • @whiteslash You should learn 4 part voice leading and how to build chords, how to use chord inversions, and the basics of time signatures.

fuck it just take like music theory for a year in any community college and you will learn a fuck load of stuff you never knew before.

  • @heca906 After all, making EDM is much different than composing a symphony or sight reading Chopin.

  • @McBango Tutorials like these?

  • WAIT. Deadmau5 didn't invent eighth notes?!?

  • @DJFreakinGenius Funny that 90% of his chords are DOTTED eighth notes.

  • @DJFreakinGenius no. No he did not.

  • Deadmau5 actually use the Arturia minimoog v, so if you want to make music like him, its not a bad idea to get that plugin ;)

  • @Seroc000 no he uses a moog voyager (hardware ,Not VST's)

  • @MichaelCorcoranMusic That's partially true. But I know that he uses both since he did a review on the vst. You can find it on the arturia webpage.

  • lol u are so vain

  • Finish the song! Sounded siiiick

  • he might not have invented anything...but he surely put it back on the map with a HUGE SOUND

  • What deadmau5 song is this?

  • Watch this amazing remake of "I remember" by deadmau5!

    /watch?v=DShBdjXv3gQ

Simply Amazing and it has a download link!!!!

  • Your comps olddd. NI's Massive has 3 osc, is that also acceptable? :O

  • sounds good i like it. :)

but to me it sounds a little more housier than deadmau5.

  • great sound man you complete that and u can make that a master piece

  • Right where it ended is where the vocals come in!

  • modulation smodulation blah blha blah just fuck with it until it sounds good to you and nutting is hitting the red

  • @vladimir4200 That's quite a noobie approach. Like it or not, but a professional musician got to be able to understand what he does on every level.

  • now if you can teach us how deadmau5 does his mastering process, that'd be money.

  • @Neverdii he doesn't. He let's it be done by somebody else since he can listen to the track objectively and find flaws whereas if you work for weeks on the same track you will lose attention to any EQ flaws etc in the track. He only does a quick Master to make sure the track isn't clipping too hard and then exports it for DJing. But the final master is always outsourced.

  • right although i find this video a little hard to follow, mainly because you do something like change the osc to a 7th semitone and then say you did it later. You are sitting there thinking what's he up to there. Anyway, i will see for myself of the minimoog is indeed deadmau5 debunked..the poor guy has been debunked so much i think he'd be best sleepin on the floor

  • "uhheh, yeah", asshole

  • haha your comp is lagging like crazy.

  • @Jez4prez I think it's just the hypercam ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAbkio its a vsti, search for minimoog and then install it.

  • @JayRayzerBay oh yea i have the vsti i just didnt get how he had those knobs u hav to press the show/hide in/out section on the far right.. ty tho

  • @JayRayzerBay oh ok thx :)

This is a pretty spot on tutorial btw, but I'll love to see someone attempt something more like autechre, squarepusher, boc or aphex twin tho. There are a billion house and dubstep demos and not much suited to what I like :(

  • @Jez4prez BOC is the best. you really need some external tape distortion to get there sound

  • @strangerflesh I feel tape only really accounts for a small % of their sound though. I've read all their interviews and have a few ideas myself on what they do. Truthly I think the biggest factor in their sound is how freakishly good they are at the art of sampling and sculpting samples.

  • @Jez4prez This is very true, not to mention their ability to arrange beautifully simplistic melodies with very unique rhythm. BOC's ability to capture real life experience and convey it an a truly original musical approach, has made them the soundtrack to my life. I love those brothers like they were family.

  • @Jez4prez check out lofi tape delay, really great.

  • The title should have read how to make sounds like deadmau5

  • How do you solo 2 tracks in ableton?

  • @Adeptmind ctrl + click the solo button.

  • @spots2012 hmmm.. my friend tried that and he said it didn't work. What version of ableton do you use?

  • you havent debunked anything bro. Do you even know what debunking means? You've explained something, sure....but not debunked.

Debunked: Expose the falseness or hollowness of (a myth, idea, or belief)

So unless he had some falseness to what he was making... or something...the title of your video makes no sense.

  • This is a solid tune clip, love the full sound and everything you got going, hope you keep coming with the ableton videos, every tidbit helps! =)

  • want the midi notes and the minimoog present... please :(

  • Bro, do you use Reason a lot? What are your thoughts?

  • im 18 i started screwing around with abelton live when i saw deadmau5 at the MTV awards i totally want to gain the knowledge tht he has i just want to know how he started out, his music is pure excellence but it seems so difficult and challenging to be honest i think hes the best house producer, Aviici and Swedish house mafia david guetta cant even touch his music

  • WORK ON THIS. IT'S A GREAT START!

  • want the project.,...:/

    download link plz :O

  • SONG NAME: For all the people wondering, I wanted to know what the name of this song was, so I went through my deadmau5 collection, it's called "Not Exactly" from the album "It Sounds Like."

  • @zoneack this isn't not exactly, and he doesn't have an album called it sounds like. fail

  • @zoneack Uuhm no. No, it's not.

  • you're a true inspiration, you really are.

  • @englishmanriver you're an idiot

  • someone has a crappy computer...

  • @englishmanriver He's teaching people how to make a very popular synth, something that a lot of people want to know. It not like he's never done anything on his own.

  • Check out my Deadmau5 - I Remember remake file here with DOWNLOAD

    watch?v=1u9CXON7Y5A

  • @robcrouch remakes are a waste of time

  • @huhjustin A waste of time? Tell me. Is practice a waste of time? Is learning more a waste of time? Point an case.

  • Just a question though? How does it feel to be on meth, or what sort of stimulant you're on? waiting for your reply, thxs a lot dude.

  • Fabulous dude, better than DeadMau5, now he can suck you cock.

  • Hey man, i appreciate the vid. I don't know how you got the 'short pluck' sound with 8th notes. I copied you exactly but it sounds like 'blended' 8th notes, legato like. How do you adjust this?

  • Deadmau5 use FL studio ....

  • you even sound like deadmau5, voice wise.

  • Im hoping to get into electronic music soon enough to understand what all of this mumbo jumbo is haha

  • i hear some compressors pumping

  • how do you get the moog on ableton?

  • Am I the only one that LOVES this dude's mouse pointer?! It makes EVERYTHING funnier.

  • What do you mean by "Debunked"?? I think the word you're looking for is not "debunked," but rather, "explained." You haven't really debunked anything here...Deadmau5 Explained (In Ableton)

  • @blixten1982 Agreed. Deadmau5's tunes are still awesome, and he never claimed to invent 8th notes.

  • @blixten1982 no, it's debunked, coz that is the correct word for busting someone who is faking having talent.

  • @blixten1982 Yeah, Deadmau5 isn't a myth. :p

  • @blixten1982 Who will solve the curious case of Deadmau5

  • cool video! But you lost me a the start, and I never found you again ;-)

I was basically like....'uhuh.....uhuh....I have no idea what's going on here'

  • OR... u could just sample a few of his songs to get the sounds u want... or do it your way

  • this is incredibly well done. I am as big a deadmau5 fan as anyone else, and I thank you. Where did you get the minimoog plug in? Can it be done without it or is it an absolute must have. I have ableton suite 8...

  • the bass is not a 100% but still realy Nice

  • what is the tempo of this song? im guessing 130 bpm but i just want to make sure

  • @BassDestruction1 Yeah its about 130, most House music is between 120 and 130 :)

  • hey quick question, im an experienced ableton user but im confused as to why you run the pluck and bass channel into an audio channel instead of just keeping them as they are in seperate channel, not that im trolling trying to say you did something wrong but im just trying to learn why you went about doing that, gotta ask questions to learn! ha thanks man!

  • @bladecatcherX99 i can try an answer that for him, he bussed it to an audio channel so that he only had to put one side chain compressor instead of putting one on each individual midi track. im pretty sure that's why he did that but i could be wrong...

  • @blue2397 Ahh , just simplifies the effect chain so you can just bus all your audio to one chain instead of messing with 2 of everything, makes sense

  • can you tutorial how to do this in massive or fm8 or sylenth i dont have minimoog anymore

  • you're really good, hope you go big.

  • hey does anyone know hoe to get ableton free? is it possible because i saw some videos that gave a link to a crack but i didnt know how o install it i have a mac ios lion.. tnx

  • @santoek I'm sure the developers at Ableton would be happy to show you how to get the software for free, as long as you can show them how to eat for free, get a free car, and put a roof over their head for free. they offer a fully functional free 30 day trial that should be more than enough to decide if you want to use it

  • @cyscols7 jajaja bete ala verga weii deseguro tu eres un de los ke pago por ell xD nose awite kompaa si kiere ahi le abiso komo agarrarlo gratis..

  • I'm still too much of a noob to understand this, I'll get back to this video when I'm more comfortable with ableton :)

  • where do u got the whitenoise sample from?

  • Hey TheDCaf, can I be so bold to ask if you actually bought the minimoog software? If so, how did you arrive at purchasing it, since you probably didn't try it before hand (i'm assuming) and it's quite expensive? Don't worry, I am not trying to be like ohmygawdIwanteverythingyouhave. No, I am just trying to understand how people pick software plugins like that when they cost alot of money. Somewhere you knew this would help you, just trying to figure it out :) Very amazing tutorial btw.

  • how do you record your screen and have voice over it as well?

  • @MuzicalFreedom Camtasia from Techsmith....

  • men how to make the clip audio 7 what name in ableton is the option to makeit

  • it comes out sounding a bit muddy

  • @FlexFon There are hundreds of moog plugins out there that are great, some for free. And if you CAN spend a few hundred on sounds, that same company, Arturia, puts out the Analog Factory which has hundreds of classic synth sounds AND a hardware controller for just $300. That's a tremendous bargain. Save your money. Even if it takes a year it's completely worth it. And you can get Ableton Live Intro for $75. Google as always, is your friend, but start at kvraudio.com

  • Damn, this shit go,

  • Very good. Professional sound. You've earned yourself a subscribe =D

  • This was very cool... Thanks

  • why did you created that full plucks channels only to put the compression? i don't get it. i mostly sidechain both channels separated

  • Hi!this video very cool=)Where download this presets in video? KU_Jesc?please=)

  • i'm kind of a noob... so can you tell me where to get the bass, plucks, kicks... cus i don't even know where to begin with this tutorial lol.

  • Amazing tutorial ! I have difficulties setting the Moog ,can u save and give us the presets ?? Thankss

  • Can I ask you a question dude, how have you gotten to this point of knowledge/skill?

Like is it just years of trial and error or have you actually gone and studied somewhere?

  • @RenzBeats I'm 100% self taught. I essentially trolled YouTube every time I got stuck while writing a tune. I'm 20 now, but I started when I was 16. There is no substitute for spending countless hours behind your computer, tinkering with every aspect of the DAW. I don't have any knowledge of what is offered at Dubspot or other corresponding programs, but I've heard they tend to cut learning curves fairly quickly. I'll leave you with this: you're going to have to figure out what works for you ;)

  • @TheDCaf Excellent job at sounding just like someone else.

  • @sa162508 Dude, that's the way we learn. By remaking something someone else have made, then learn from it. Learn how the sound works and stuff, and use that to make a song of your own... Anyways, this guy in the video made a video to show how this sound is done. Not to remake a song of deadmau5 to sound cool.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheDCaf very good vid... have just been getting my head around minimoog and starting to understand its power.. didnt know the trick about having one more voice..was having alot of problems with phasing not know what was going on but i think i have voices at 32 when im using about 4 notes at any one time..lol in the vid i noticed you have the matrix button pressed have you got modulation going on that ure not showing?? many thanks for vid learnt alot. DM5 didnt invent the 8th note...love that :)

  • @RenzBeats any chance of zipping this up into a Livepack somewhere so we can download the template? Love it...I have seen this done using sylenth vst/au too...

  • This is dead on. Good Job man!

  • Really good man.

  • Deadmau5 Debunked? What is this another 9/11 movie?

  • Hey what did you do with the automation at the end? I did everything you said to setting up the minimoog but I can't figure out how you made it build? Which aspects did you automate??

  • Good tutorial man

  • when i run my minimoog in ableton the audio skips every like 4 seconds... help? lol

  • no idea what you said and this looks hard, but dope sound!

  • he also gave away all of his drums samples on the xfr cd so you could sound even more like him by using those

  • Yeah, no biggie, just needs a plugin that costs 249$.

  • @FlexFon Compared to a piece of hardware that costs $2,500... I'd say that's one heck of a deal!

  • @TheDCaf I didn't say the plugin was expensive for what it does. You make it sound like anyone should be able to recreate this sound, and I think that 249$ is a non-trivial price for most people.

  • @TheDCaf pirate bay. thats how i got it.

  • @TheDCaf: Nowadays, you'd be extremely fortunate to get that particular piece of hardware for less than $3K.

  • @TheDCaf We use a Virus TI2 in all our productions. We mainly do Hardstyle but when I'm bored i start to rebuild sounds from famous producers and must say that the TI is one of the best Synthesizers one can get, cause you can synthesize !EVERY! sound on the market ! If you play on getting a synth, get the TI2. Combines the power of everything into one device !

  • @FlexFon Ever heard of pirate bay?

  • @FlexFon (cough cough torrent cough cough)

  • @FlexFon There is this thing called Pirate bay....You should check it out sometime! ;)
