@id300129 Have you seen what the hardware costs? How can you be mad that more people can produce high level music quicker, cheaper and more transportable? You want music to be an exclusive club that only the rich can afford to perform? Something upgradeable, portable and affordable OR Many things expensive, heavy with fixed capabilities?

The Minimoog V is good but I personally prefer Sylenth, and the advantage of that is you could apply the reverb, eq and compression within the synth (letting you save it as a single preset). Still, good work man.
@heca906 I do consider it a must heca, yeah, seems pretty much like what I need, still haven't been able to take more courses due to my limited free time studying advertising, thanks for your advice.
hey guys, I'm an up-and-coming basement electro producer (using ableton), and I just released my second official house/electro track. @lanswipe the chord progression is typical to deadmau5. its prob just a different key. in fact, this chord progression is typical to about 90% of music you listen to, just in different keys, inversions, and tempos.
not talking shit. i love deadmau5. and i like this video.
@whiteslash That's not really how it works. You can't just download software and expect to be able to make a track there without knowing anything prior.
@kylemproductions Ofc you can. I never got lessons, I just started off by playing piano (no lessons, just some basic research on scales and stuff) and playing with FL studio, learned stuff, 8 months and about 30 tracks later, well I got some stuff down, and I know I'm still lacking a shitload of knowledge, but as you should know, it is a constant learning process. My advice if anyone wants to start making music is to BEGIN. Look me up in soundcloud: whitestariv
@Neverdii he doesn't. He let's it be done by somebody else since he can listen to the track objectively and find flaws whereas if you work for weeks on the same track you will lose attention to any EQ flaws etc in the track. He only does a quick Master to make sure the track isn't clipping too hard and then exports it for DJing. But the final master is always outsourced.
right although i find this video a little hard to follow, mainly because you do something like change the osc to a 7th semitone and then say you did it later. You are sitting there thinking what's he up to there. Anyway, i will see for myself of the minimoog is indeed deadmau5 debunked..the poor guy has been debunked so much i think he'd be best sleepin on the floor
This is a pretty spot on tutorial btw, but I'll love to see someone attempt something more like autechre, squarepusher, boc or aphex twin tho. There are a billion house and dubstep demos and not much suited to what I like :(
@strangerflesh I feel tape only really accounts for a small % of their sound though. I've read all their interviews and have a few ideas myself on what they do. Truthly I think the biggest factor in their sound is how freakishly good they are at the art of sampling and sculpting samples.
@Jez4prez This is very true, not to mention their ability to arrange beautifully simplistic melodies with very unique rhythm. BOC's ability to capture real life experience and convey it an a truly original musical approach, has made them the soundtrack to my life. I love those brothers like they were family.

Hey man, i appreciate the vid. I don't know how you got the 'short pluck' sound with 8th notes. I copied you exactly but it sounds like 'blended' 8th notes, legato like. How do you adjust this?

@santoek I'm sure the developers at Ableton would be happy to show you how to get the software for free, as long as you can show them how to eat for free, get a free car, and put a roof over their head for free. they offer a fully functional free 30 day trial that should be more than enough to decide if you want to use it
Hey TheDCaf, can I be so bold to ask if you actually bought the minimoog software? If so, how did you arrive at purchasing it, since you probably didn't try it before hand (i'm assuming) and it's quite expensive? Don't worry, I am not trying to be like ohmygawdIwanteverythingyouhave. No, I am just trying to understand how people pick software plugins like that when they cost alot of money. Somewhere you knew this would help you, just trying to figure it out :) Very amazing tutorial btw.
@FlexFon There are hundreds of moog plugins out there that are great, some for free. And if you CAN spend a few hundred on sounds, that same company, Arturia, puts out the Analog Factory which has hundreds of classic synth sounds AND a hardware controller for just $300. That's a tremendous bargain. Save your money. Even if it takes a year it's completely worth it. And you can get Ableton Live Intro for $75. Google as always, is your friend, but start at kvraudio.com
@RenzBeats I'm 100% self taught. I essentially trolled YouTube every time I got stuck while writing a tune. I'm 20 now, but I started when I was 16. There is no substitute for spending countless hours behind your computer, tinkering with every aspect of the DAW. I don't have any knowledge of what is offered at Dubspot or other corresponding programs, but I've heard they tend to cut learning curves fairly quickly. I'll leave you with this: you're going to have to figure out what works for you ;)
@sa162508 Dude, that's the way we learn. By remaking something someone else have made, then learn from it. Learn how the sound works and stuff, and use that to make a song of your own... Anyways, this guy in the video made a video to show how this sound is done. Not to remake a song of deadmau5 to sound cool.
@TheDCaf very good vid... have just been getting my head around minimoog and starting to understand its power.. didnt know the trick about having one more voice..was having alot of problems with phasing not know what was going on but i think i have voices at 32 when im using about 4 notes at any one time..lol in the vid i noticed you have the matrix button pressed have you got modulation going on that ure not showing?? many thanks for vid learnt alot. DM5 didnt invent the 8th note...love that :)
@RenzBeats any chance of zipping this up into a Livepack somewhere so we can download the template? Love it...I have seen this done using sylenth vst/au too...
Hey what did you do with the automation at the end? I did everything you said to setting up the minimoog but I can't figure out how you made it build? Which aspects did you automate??
@TheDCaf I didn't say the plugin was expensive for what it does. You make it sound like anyone should be able to recreate this sound, and I think that 249$ is a non-trivial price for most people.
@TheDCaf We use a Virus TI2 in all our productions. We mainly do Hardstyle but when I'm bored i start to rebuild sounds from famous producers and must say that the TI is one of the best Synthesizers one can get, cause you can synthesize !EVERY! sound on the market ! If you play on getting a synth, get the TI2. Combines the power of everything into one device !

That's a tremendous bargain. Save your money. Even if it takes a year it's completely worth it. And you can get Ableton Live Intro for $75. Google as always, is your friend, but start at kvraudio.com

Can I ask you a question dude, how have you gotten to this point of knowledge/skill?
Like is it just years of trial and error or have you actually gone and studied somewhere?
RenzBeats 3 months ago 13
@RenzBeats I'm 100% self taught. I essentially trolled YouTube every time I got stuck while writing a tune. I'm 20 now, but I started when I was 16. There is no substitute for spending countless hours behind your computer, tinkering with every aspect of the DAW. I don't have any knowledge of what is offered at Dubspot or other corresponding programs, but I've heard they tend to cut learning curves fairly quickly. I'll leave you with this: you're going to have to figure out what works for you ;)

@TheDCaf Excellent job at sounding just like someone else.
sa162508 2 months ago
@sa162508 Dude, that's the way we learn. By remaking something someone else have made, then learn from it. Learn how the sound works and stuff, and use that to make a song of your own... Anyways, this guy in the video made a video to show how this sound is done. Not to remake a song of deadmau5 to sound cool.

Hey what did you do with the automation at the end? I did everything you said to setting up the minimoog but I can't figure out how you made it build? Which aspects did you automate??

he also gave away all of his drums samples on the xfr cd so you could sound even more like him by using those
GrAyFr96 3 months ago
Yeah, no biggie, just needs a plugin that costs 249$.
FlexFon 3 months ago 3
@FlexFon Compared to a piece of hardware that costs $2,500... I'd say that's one heck of a deal!
TheDCaf 3 months ago 49
@TheDCaf I didn't say the plugin was expensive for what it does. You make it sound like anyone should be able to recreate this sound, and I think that 249$ is a non-trivial price for most people.

@TheDCaf pirate bay. thats how i got it.
kradim 3 months ago
@TheDCaf: Nowadays, you'd be extremely fortunate to get that particular piece of hardware for less than $3K.
