  • Still love this man, and I'm still laughing.

  • @kingdorkiv do you know what song Pookie is singing?

  • @PennyLane3132 "Mumbles' by Clark Terry.

  • Kids today wouldn't get this, there's no violence

  • Made me laugh in '67, and still does.

Thanks to Soup & Frank Nastasi.

  • I love Soupy, he was my childhood hero. I thought I was so sophisticated because I watched him and Steve Allen.

  • Kids today don't even know what childhood or comedy really is. I grew up outside of Detroit in 1955; best time to be a kid, ever.

  • I truly love Soup & Troop (born in ' 52).

I believe there was a Talent who did all the characters by the name of Frank Latanzie. Am I right? Can any of you guys confirm?

  • @audiodoc68 Frank Nastase is the man's name and he i great!

  • Love Pookie's face when he gets excited.

  • boom, boom, sung by georgie fame[known for his bonnie &clyde song..

  • who owns the pookie.white fangs arms r they in the tv hallof fame? love u soupy R.I.P. THE KING OF SILLY.

  • umm.....

  • Who's the crew member with tha laugh at the beginning and at the 4:00 minute mark. He has a great laugh and I've been trying to find out since the 60's.

  • soupy and his gang I grew up with and yes too bad kids today dont see this stuff it is fantastic.....

  • Dear Airshotsphotoco,

None of Soupy's kidult tv comedy shows were taped before a live audience..the laughs are from the show's crew.

  • I was one of the lucky kids who came home for lunch and watched Soupy at noon. I had a Pookie Lion and loved every minute of Soupy, Pookie, White Fang and Black Tooth.

  • pookie dancing is SO cool!!!!

  • 3:25 - "Hey Booby! There goes the budget!"

  • Wow. No wonder we are so cool!

  • These shows were taped before a LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE so the laughing is not only the crew but the audience too. No canned laffter here. One of Soupy's things was to always do it live and not edit out the "bloopers".

  • LMAO, listen to the guy laughing in the crew between 3:59 to 4:03. I bet that would have been a lot of fun working on that show.

  • The music that is featured on kids' shows these days can't compare with the amazing stuff Pookie "performed".

  • I love the facial expressions that Soupy makes when "Pookie The Lion"puppet lip syncs to Mr.Terry's"Mumbles"song.

  • Loved this show as a kid......RIP Soupy and thanks for everything!!!

  • love the pook

  • Pookie was the best. I remember one commercial they did. One of the sponsers was Sivercup bread. Pook was going to get some for Soups lunch. They showed a bunch of old clips of car, train & plane crashes then a boat wreck. When he came back to the window he & the bread were soaked. He started throwing all the wet bread at Soupy and as a 6-7 year old I almost peed laughing so hard. This was from his days in Detroit before there was any tapes Everything was done live.

  • And they wonder why we still smoke pot today. Especially aroung 5:15. The Animals - Boom Boom. These shows were so kool, so bitchin'. So drug induced!

    Here come psychedelia.

    On the other hand...

Outstanding Childrens Programming! Inocent, refreshing, sweet, and oh yeah, FUN!!!

  • never foget the first time i saw pookie get a pied i thought i would die laughing! yes thankyou you tube for the fond memories

  • howard Stern can thank Mr. Sales for his start. That plus all the jews who feign fighting amongst themselves, when they are in fact, just schtick. vaudeville, etc.

Soupy Sales was the original, and howard stern SHOULD kiss SOUPY SALES ASS.

  • @jws54

    I quite agree!!!!

  • I think Soupy was funnier in Detroit...but that's just an opinion. I feel very sorry for this generation of children. I haven't seen anything to match the inclusiveness, spontanaity, charm or wit from a program like Soupy Sales. Sillyness is a state of grace.

  • Love ya, Soupy! Thanks for making me laugh all these years!

  • HILARIOUS!!! Even after all these years. RIP Soupy.

  • this show was so funny and original and soupy was a genius

  • I feel deprived! Everything is so PC and sissy these days! I think we are more hyper-sensitive these days- about EVERYTHING.

  • I was born in 77. I've never heard or seen this show in my life. Did they even have cartoons when this came out?

  • @BermudaEntrepreneur Cartoons existed from the 1900's. We were watching 30 to 20 year old cartoons when this show was on.

  • I sure do miss this show! Pookie, you are great! RIP, Soupy!

  • I loved this show when I was a kid. Pookie was the bomb!

  • @ekuska: Mothra welcomes and sez: You are in for SUCH a treat. The more Soupy you watch, the more you will like what he does. Don't forget the gifted Frank Nastasi, the guy who is, literally, "everyone else".

Mothra agrees that the "live" vibe is what it's all about. Plus, the cat was Fuh-NEE.

Wait till you get to his pie stuff.

Mothra wishes peace to you and yours!

  • wow. Since when did Mel Gibson get so funny? Actually, this is my first time seeing Soupy in action. I definitely will be watching more. love the 'live' vibe in the show and Soupy just going with what happens. Looks like a lot of kids had a lot of fun watching this show.. thanks for posting!

  • Remember the cheesy detective show ripoff skit Soupy use to do called "Philo Kavetch". It's no wonder the boomers developed their own counter culture with muses like Soupy. Pure creative insanity. I loved the joke about the "draft" too.

  • Pookie doing some hip scat singing. Jebus Cripes early TV was great before it became so predictable. And those looks on Soupy's face while pookie was riffin out almost made me pee myself too. I remember being crazy about this show when my parents lived in Danbury, Conn. Obviously i was only picking up on about one tenth of of humor since i was in 3rd grade but i still remember it was my favorite show.

  • I just about peed myself laughing at the first part of this! Oh, what I missed back then. His show was on ABC channel 7 in New York City. We could not get channel 7 in clearly at all and were maybe 15 miles as the crow flies from the transmitter on the Empire State building. It SUCKED not being able to get channel 7. The Animals "Boom, Boom, Boom" is a nice added feature to this. Never saw any of this. Thanks so much for filling me in on what should have been a major part of my TV viewing.

  • I remember they would do a skit where there would be a knock at the door & Soupy would answer & he would talk to someone we couldn't see. Once he went to the door, opened it, & there was a naked girl standing there. Poor Soupy forgot everything & certainely couldn't tell us what was there. The crew was all in on it & went into hysterics. It would be priceless to see that again. But I have to admit White Fang & Black Tooth were my favs.

  • Someone put a clip of that on Youtube a while back. It was hilarious

  • If you know where I could find that clip, I will see that you are in my will.

  • Its on Youtube-you have to scout around for it, but it is here

  • I am 53. I tell the younger ones at work...if you only knew what you missed in the 60's and 70's.

SOUPY you and your "schtick" as they called it back then are forever etched in my childhood memories and I thank my lucky stars I got to be there.

His humor was meant for kids but it was played to adults as well. An Incredible style of comedy that was unique and cannot ever be duplicated now.

    LOVE YOU SOUPY.

Does anyone have show intros or closings?

Also clips from Birds Do It?

  • I'm 56 I loved Soupy, Pookie, White Fang & Peaches with the rings...Like Christopher Walkens "The Continental on SNL"!!! I would watch every day...The "Hair Pin" joke got Soupy in trouble & "Green Pieces of Paper"!

  • I used to run home every day so I would not miss Soupy. I thought at the time that he was My Discovery and that no one else knew how cool this dude was. I am so sorry he is gone and I will miss him. RIP Soupy

  • I saw the tomb of King Tut! Simple comedy for a simpler time. God I miss those days. RIP Soupy

  • Unbelievable. Soupy we will miss you forever. I feel sorry for the kids who didn't get a chance to grow up with your show. Simply the best. No contest. Many hugs to surviving family members. You have so much to be proud for. He was the star of our neighborhood in Mahwah NJ in the 50's and 60's. A list & will always be. When you're classified the best by your peers, there is no greater honor. God bless.

  • Yes Yes Yes.

I wouldn't do my homework until his show was over.

I was 8 in 1965 and I thought I was in on the adult world because of him and his way of making it hip for adults too.

    LOVE YOU SOUPY.

  • This clip is hysterical. Period.

  • HIA Pook!, HIA Bubbie! I will always love Soupy!! Use to live in NY and was able to see Soupy at WNEW and see the show live in the Studio. A group of kids were picked everyday and ecsorted in st CH5 to watch the show, the remainer of them went up to the viewing booth. "No talking" we were told if we where in the studio.

    What memories!!!!

  • You have to love the Animals track at the end. Brilliant......

  • Love you Soupy --- Thank God for YouTube --- you and Pookie and White Fang and Black Tooth live on in our hearts forever.

  • hahah i luv it when the little lion sings

  • @catdogco

And of course the utterly gorgeous PEACHES, Soupy's "dream girl" lol! :)

  • R.I.P. Soupy, always loved you

  • I wish I had a Pookie doll!!

  • I swear that I had one when I was a kid along with a White Fang and the tie. Also had Soupy Sales trading cards-they had a picture from the show on the front and Soupys Words of Wisdom on the back-wish I had them today!

  • You were a lucky kid!!! I don't remember having one ever but wouldn't that be great to get your hands on one now?? :)

  • All I have now is the "Spy with a Pie" LP. I've searched ebay and there's nothing there. Maybe some day.

  • @LFD254 on the back Soupy sez... " Blood is thiscker than water... so is toothpaste," why i remember that i dont know, but it was funny when i was a kid, the Soup' was the best!

  • RIP, Soup. You gave a lot of baby boomers a terrific show and great memories..

  • I can't stop laughing...!!!

Grew up watching Soupy's show in NYC in the early 60s. Kids called each other Boobie. Can't do that now.

  • Soupy you were the greatest, you have no equal, I'll be a devoted fan forever, may you rest in peace. Thanks for the memories.

  • You were the GREATEST, Soupy. You brought so much laughter into our house. All of us rolled on the floor in fits of convulsive laughter. I will truly, truly miss you.

  • It was just a zany kind of fun wasn't it? How can you compare "The Power Rangers" to this? lol!

  • yeah pookie and soupy especially the musical numbers...does anyone remember that pookie whistled but didnt talk at first?

  • i remember when pookie whistled...the POOK was funny either way.

  • I was a senior in high school when Soupy hit big time in LA. Such a hip show and so much fun, plus great music, I have forgotten who did the jazz scat, but that's Eric Burden and The Animals doing "Boom, Boom, Boom" My autographed picture from Soupy with Pookie hangs in my office.

  • The opening jazz scat is Oscar Peterson doing "Mumbles"

  • Actually, it was Clark Terry, playing with the Oscar Peterson Trio

  • OK-I was close!

  • Thanks and I see where it was Clark Terry singing the scat with Peterson. Soupy never talked down to the children. He assumed everyone was smart enough to get the program. I had a white Chevy Impala: of course, it was named White Fang.

    Wegh Eh?

  • To this day, I often call people whom I like "Pookie"

  • Rumor has it that Soupy was the inspiration for Mr Rogers Neighborhood. Fred was so disgusted that this was defined as "Children's Programming" that he started his own laid back "Classy" children's show. True story.

  • Soupy once described his show as a "children's show for adults" - I think he was more of a forerunner to "Pee-wee's Playhouse" than "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." Love this clip!

  • One day in 1965 I went to junior high dressed up as Soupy replete with elastic bowtie. I can't tell you how many times that tie got snapped back in my face. Obviuosly I didn't think the idea all the way through. Thank you Soupy for so many laughs as well as the Soupy Shuffle, the only dance at which I still excel.

  • You'll never see anything this good on the teletubbies or barney or anything by disney...

    gonna miss ya Soupy.

  • God I loved this show as a kid and its still funny RIP Soupy for all the joy you brought the world

  • Where's Pachalafaka?

As well: who sang the original Pachalafaka before Soupy did a version on the flip side of The Mouse? Pooky used to "sing" the original.

Haven't heard it since way back then....

  • Cool it Reeba ! You'll be missed Soup , RIP.....

  • Ah, that's where I learned the word "Bubby"-- as a term of endearment, when living in small town Iowa! RIP, Bubby....

  • We'll miss you Booby!! Keep the Funny!!

  • Soupy Sales was the man! A wonderful, funny & entertaining legacy! You done did real good, Boobie!

  • Good bye Soupy

You made a whole generation of kids (and their parents), laugh.

  • Growing up on Soupy and Bugs Bunny... kids today don't even know what they missed. Soupy, you will always be missed but will live forever in glorious black and white.

  • Better than naything kids get to watch today-all PC and sweet and proper. We'll be a nation of wimps by 2020! RIP Bubby!

  • I grew up watching you Soupy and loved you

right from the beginning- you are so missed

keep cracking up in Heaven, Soupy- you were

one of a kind- Thanks for the laughs.

  • Soupy, you were so hip you brought us kids up to your level. Bye Boobie. See ya' later!

  • I grew up doing the Soupy Sales Shuffle & I am a better person for it. I'm going to do it right now!

  • Cool and funny, hip dresser, jazz fan--and all-round good vibe nice guy....

  • "Thanks for the memories" Soupy!

May a better world become of them.

  • Rest In Peace Boobie

  • I remember the real early Pookie and Soupy skits. I think it was when it first started in L.A. Pookie didn't talk -- he used to spend a lot of time trying to get comfortable on soupy's shoulder, and when he made a noise, it was a high-pitched scream, (sort of). And then he had this awful hacking cough that was very deep, and very, very funny. Anyone remember that?

  • RIP Soup Sales. Thanks for all the laughs, the twisted fun and the craziness!!

  • "NATURALAMENTE"!! HILARIOUS!!! OMG, Soupy you will be missed by all!

  • RIP Soupy I always <3d you

  • What happy memories. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting him back in

the early 80's. He was so gracious and seemed sincerely thrilled to meet a loyal

    fan. I'll always love Soupy.

  • RIP Soupy... a comedy hero with a kind heart and a gentle soul. Thanks for all the laughs.

  • What funny is. Thanks for my childhood introduction to what makes something funny. RIP, Soupy.

  • I'm Crying and laughing uncontrollably at the same time!

To be a kid again . . . Rest in Peace buddy!

  • P.S. After watching this vid for the umteenth time, I just realized why I have this "THING" about red checkers. Even though this was in b + w, I guess I knew that tablecloth was red checkers. I geesh. There is no end to my love of Soupy and Pookie, You are both in my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love you Soupy. I love Pookie and White Fang too. Thank you for doing what you did. You are part of the material of my life. I "GOT" you. I love you. I always will. RIP.

  • How many comedians touched as many people with absolutely harmless fun? My brothers and I fought for the best seat in front of the TV for his show. Thanks, Soup!!

  • GOD BLESS YOU SOUPY

  • Soupy's level of humor was very smart and sophisticated and the kids, myself included, who watched the show were exposed to a comedian who was certainly ahead of his time. Some of the subtle references delightfully teased us into a higher plane of thought as we later developed through adolescence and adulthood. Thanks Soupy for all the chuckles. Good memories of the better days of television and it's power to entertain the mind. Keep 'em laughing in heaven forever.

  • After almost 55 years of trying to figure out why I turned out the way I did I have my answer.Watching waaay to much Soupy Sales.

  • I remember coming home at lunch time and while eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich with milk watching soupy, he and his gang were funny as hell

  • May he rest in peace. I shall say a mikva for him.

  • I was in Calvary Wednesday night, I wish I'd have known he was there but thank you for the best Fox tv ever put on! RIP

  • Thanks Soupy for making my childhood so much fun!!!!!

  • Do you have the one from New Years Day where Soup tells all the kids to tip toe into their parents room and take the money out of their fathers pockets and send it to him?

He got thousands of dollars and donated it to charity~

RIP Soup and thanks so much for all the fun and laughs.

  • The Chi Phi brothers at the U of M were also devoted Soup-o-la fans. I hope I find some of his late-night shows. RIP, Soupy.

  • Soupy made me the person I am today. I love Soupy and he played the best MUSIC. SOUPY you ROCKED and will forever.

  • goddamn, the first few minutes are a joy to listen to.

  • My wife just shakes her head when I go into bad pun mode. I just tell her to blame too many hours watching Soupy. He was truly one of a kind. RIP, Soupy..

  • R.I.P. Soupy. You was a king of kings!

  • He was funNY! RIP, Soupy!

  • If some network exec out there is watching this-take note. Its better than anything you've goton right now so why not dig up all the old tapes of this and Chuck McCann and Uncle Floyd and all the other insanity we watched in the 60s and put it on!!!

  • Great Line by Pookie after he sneezs: "Its drafty in here, and I hope they don't get me" -LOL!

  • He was great!

  • I love Soupy! I once went to a show in NYC... thrill of a lifetime! Do you know the name of the actor who did all the other characters? Frank Nastasi!

  • MY GOSH!!! IT's Funnier now! I'm laughin' my Tookis off!!!!! Got to love the Soups and the Pooks!!

  • yea....soupy goffin' and the animals..

it don't get much better then this.

  • ahhh, ad libs, simple props and REAL humor!!

  • BOOM BOOM BOOM (The Animals-by John Lee Hooker)-Ozzi shood have some puppets on his show! I like the way they play the whole tune -no commercials 2!

  • Jazz makes everything better-and OSCAR WAS THE BEST!

  • I don't remember the Jello- but I sure remember United Dairies Milk and Silver Cup Bread. I went to see Soupy in person at Edgewater Park with my Soupy Sales birdbath member ship card and got a free minature loaf of Silver Cup bread.

  • A puppet lion starts scat-singing jazz, and Soupy's silent, surprised face gets more and more ridiculous.

    Genius.

  • Better than anything on TV today

  • AY-MEN!!

  • God, I love his material and I wish my mind worked like his!

  • i loved soupy - one of the best kid shows ever-thanks for posting this so our grandchildren can enjoy it too

  • This is great. I loved the Soupy Sales Show when I was a kid. I looking at now and some of the jokes are way above kids heads but it was still funny. The man was a comedy genius. Give me more please. Great job whoever posted it.

  • Lunch With Soupy Sales. Jello was one of the sponsors. My Mom always had my lunch and Jello ready for the show.Soupy would always shake his bowl of jello to a wobbly sound effect and I would shake my bowl of Jello right along with him. No wonder I am the way I am now.One of my top 5 favorite shows of all time.

  • thanks so much for this comment, tapemaster!

  • if you watch this - it's easy to see where Pee Wee Herman got all of his material - this is great stuff

  • I grew up watching this show, and it is STILL HILARIOUS! Great props for those on a budget!..the best humor, done in simplicity!!

Just goes to show...great YouTubes and funny stuff don't need to cost much!!

    Yeah Soupy!

  • I loved watching this show when I was a kid..most of the humor was way above our heads, but this stuff is soooo funny on so many levels...incredible.

  • I loved mumbles....when we final got one ...lunch time TV with my mom &.. soupy....a true funny dude. Heloise and silver cup...detroit TV 1960 ish

  • There was NO ONE like Soupy. Lots of the current stuff does not compare....

  • Loved it then, love it now.

  • funny...funny.....FFFUUUUNNNNYYYY..

  • The Yardbirds also did a version of Boom Boom just about that time

  • Pookie: "While you were out this afternoon, a man was here to see you."

Soupy: [concerned] "Did he have a bill?"

Pookie: "No--just an ordinary nose like yours..."

  • Hey! That's Spinal Tap's "Give me some Money!"

  • This show was great! Fond memories!

    Soupy STILL makes me laugh!!!

  • he's so funny

  • Thanks for putting this out there. Soupy is definately one of those special memories.

  • Does ANYONE know the name of the song that Pookie is singing? It's been driving me $#@%# nuts my whole life.

Please tell me the name and maybe who performed it. Thanks.

  • "Mumbles" by Clark Terry.

  • Yeah, Mumbles by Clark Terry and "Boom Boom" by the Animals.

  • To be exact, its the Oscar Peterson Trio featuring Clark Terry.

    Pookie rules...Thanks for the clip!!!

  • I don't know the name of the song, but I'm pretty sure it was by "Eric Burdon and the Animals", the same ones who did "House of the Rising Sun".

  • As already said, it's Boom Boom by the Animals, first written and performed by John Lee Hooker. John Lee had a bar called the Boom Boom Room in SF unitl his death a few years ago.

  • I would love to see more of Soupy's black and white New York shows from the 60s. They were just amazing. He had no budget and would just make everything up himself, except for Frank playing the characters.

  • Fantastic! If you can get any more, upload more, since Soupy footage is rare!!

  • Corrina, AKA "Ask Swami" at Yahoo Answers turned me on to this one. I love it! Pretty hip for a kids show. Now I know where Pee Wee (Paul Rubens) Herman got his ideas from.

  • he was the original floyd vivino

  • Never liked him .. truth, beauty and jazz in 'prodigirl' and I named myself after it etc

me bollix ... what with the scoops an all

  • My moms used to tell me "Boy, i love you, but you gotta turn that off!" Eventually , she became a big fan.

  • Does anyone know the name of the puppet who got words mixed up when he was telling a story?

    He was really funny.

  • the table got me, man. funny stuff.
