It is unnecessary to pick up a cat like that. If i would that to my cat, she would kill me... If you pick up a cat at a normal way you will have the same result. I think it is cruel to this to a cat.

Cats weren't meant to be picked up by people, they're made to be picked up by their mother. When they're young (0-3 yo) you can do this but you can't do it as well as the mother can.

And it's quite all right to lift cats this way when they aren't too heavy. If they are, you'll have to support them under the feet or the lower part of the body. no worries ppls. he's not hurting the kitty. Not only do cats have extra skin their, to be picked up like that (by their moms of course), but if u do it right, it actually releases endorfins(sp?) makes the kitty all lazy n peacful. momentarily of course.

@Ackles4life He absolutely is. Kittens can't be held like that after 6 weeks, because they're too heavy. Their mother wouldn't carry them like that at that point.

@girlandth3city only he's not... the only reason the moms don't pick them up like that, after a certain age: is because, by the time they're "too heavy/big" to lift like that, they're old enough to run from danger themselves. Getting older doesn't stop the action from releasing endorfins(sp?). But again, that's if u do it right. Now if u do it wrong u will hurt the cat, n guranteed the cat'll hurt u 4 hurting itxP

It does not pain them, but when it comes to cats over 4 pounds (2kg) you should support the rest of their weight with your other hand.

also like to add that saying that its okay to lift adult cats by their neck cause their mom used to is just outrageous. As a kitten the cat weights, well barely nothing so its not that much pressure on its neck, compared to when the cat grows up. Just as a vet or a serious breeder about it.

you shouldnt pick up cats by their neck like that, since it can cause injuries and pain due to the tissue behing hurt since the cat is weighting too much, compared to a kitten. Proper way to pick up and carry a cat is by giving it support under the stomach and rear. That way in case something would happen and you drop the cat, it will land on its paws.
