I supose every one gets somthing they see out of this song. All I hear is a song asking for world peace. If it makes some fell better, take out the toys of war that you see and just hear...All I want for christmas is world peace. Is this to hard to understand? If so,you have some issues to deal with.
The contras may have been Ollie North's (illegal) puppets but the Sandinistas were Castro-style communists. The point of the song is to say "Let the Reds win". Timbuk 3 would have curried a lot of favor with the Show-biz con-artists who want to trick people into supporting Police-State regimes. That is why French intellectuals went straight from supporting the Khmer Rouge to supporting al-Qa'ida. I recommended the NFB's "Toys" to give perspective, the NFB operates out of Ottawa and Montreal.
Norm N354's comment above is that of a typical cynical hateful redneck. I think the thread below even makes it more apparent to share this with others-Thanks Timbuk 3 for keeping us real! Please could someone else post this same song with a more upbeat message so I can forward without spreading Norms propaganda? Great Song and I hope someday this song will get old and not so relevant but until then, I will share its message!
I heard this song on the Radio today, and was floored as I remembered this song. There is so much truth to it. Think about our troops over seas. What kind of Christmas will they have? or the families who live the Ghetto wars? IT is worse today. This song was ahead of its time. LOVE IT!!
Oh, come on, how is it propaganda if they're just expressing personal views? Do they have an apparatus behind them, do they have financial or political advantage to gain by promoting a political system or party? Fox News is propaganda, this is just an opinionated song, you don't have to like their opinions.
Transformers, Thundercats, Rock Lords. I get the feeling Pat just flipped to the toy section in the Sears, Penney's or Ward's Christmas catalog circa 1987 and wrote shit down. Still, one of my favorite Christmas songs. All of Timbuk 3's great songs had to do with annihilation in some form or other, ya know?
Young people today don't realize that in the 80s we weren't talking about these little sandbox wars. War was going to mean us and the Reds. The big one, WW3.
War wasn't a joke like it is now.
Thats why the govt has such media control over the mess in Iraq and the 'stan. If the truth came out, they couldn't get the "no-hopers" of America to sign us. Talk to a vet and learn the truth.
You made them strong, we'll make them brain damaged or dead. Go Army.
Hi Lady! I didn't know you liked this one too! I first saw this on "Video Hits" back in.. was probably '88 too. I think we still have it recorded on VHS back home.

This was Timbuk3's last seen video, after which they fucked off and rotted in obscurity. The End.
No one likes a Burgermiester Miesterburger trying to ban toys.

This was a career-killer for these two hacks. Good riddance to them.
