Every nation has a right to self-determination. China leave Tibet, and then see which the Tibetan people choose: The Dalai Lama or the Chinese Communists. It is the only fair way.
That situation was completely different. For one, the south was already a part of the nation and Lincoln did what was necessary to preserve the United States as such. The south secceded over states rights in addition to other things. I don't see how that comment is applicable to this situation.
Second, The north did not destroy the holy places of the south after the war was over.
Third, the government did not move northerners into the south in an effort to drown out local populations.
Please keep in mind, it is the Government of China that is being criticized, not its people. In recent years the people of China have begun to rally in support of Tibet, with true interest in the culture, people, and religious views. The problem is the blatant censorship of their gov't that prohibits a true cultural shift in favor of Tibet. I see your perspective, and I think it is valid for you to question motives and agendas.

The Chinese government generally are very protective of their citizens. When the law is violated in any country, every country takes different measures of deterrent and wherever you live now, is no different to China. Some interesting bronze sculptures have originated in Tibet, and also many tankas, religious paintings. Also in many temples, whole walls 30 - 40 yards long used to be paintings. The Chinese completely destroyed all this.

2. The Tibet-China treaty of 821 A.D., inscribed on the stone pillar at the Jokhang temple, Lhasa, which shows that China had a non-aggression treaty with Tibet in 821 A.D., meaning that Tibet is a FOREIGN LAND and NOT AN INTERNAL MATTER of China, like China claims. Please get the right information. The only thing standing in the way of Dalai Lama's return to Tibet, is your Chinese government. They have a few meetings with his representatives, and then issue despicable insults against him as soon as the meetings are over. Tell your government to negotiate in good faith! He will go home as soon as he is allowed by your dictators.

Dalai Lama "refused" to go to China? That's NOT true. China refuses HIM, even though with the current uprising against China, he CONTINUES to show his understanding toward them, and says there should be no Olympics boycott. The Tibetans want INDEPENDENCE, but he CONTINUES to ask only for genuine autonomy, as guaranteed under Chinese constitution.
He is the KEY to solution of Tibet issue, but China REFUSES to use that key. Pity on them.

The protest in Lhssa last week is not peaceful anymore. Riots/Protests took place almost simultaneously at Chinese embassy's around the globe. While in Lhasa, it's more like a genocide towards Han Chinese and shop owners. Dalai has stated that he couldn't control Tibetan ppl, they did what they want, which is bullsh*t cz' everyone knows he is the spiritual leader of all Tibetans. This is a great video. I enjoyed watching. Another recognized reincarnated Lama of Gaden Monastery residing in Malaysia is H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. Rinpoche lived in USA for many years and speaks perfect english. Very easy to communicate with and has much knowledge. Rinpoche was recognized at 7 months old. His father is Tibetan and mother is pure Mongolian royalty. Born in Taiwan, then taken to US and return back to Gaden in India. Very interesting. see website tsemtulku(dot)com. Great Lama!!

Should listen to all the teachings Tsem Rinpoche (from Gaden Monastery) gives and think deeply. He has a wonderful three part video speaking about HH the Dalai lama. It is a moving piece. It is on youtube. I love him because he is so non-sectarian and respectful of HH the Dalai lama. What a great combination. He is so devoted to HH.

The number shouldn't surprise you if you knew your history. Deaths as a direct or indirect result of the commie invasion, including famine due to commie policies.
Mao's "liberators" and their polices resulted in many tens of millions of deaths in China itself. Not even including the Tibetans killed and starved to death.
You need to read some history other than the CCP revised version.

That's a Chinese fantasy, is what it is. Previous DL declared Tibetan independence after the fall of the Chinese emperor in 1911, and expelled all the Chinese ambans. They governed themselves without interference (neutral during WW II against China's wish) until the commie invasion 1950. UN member states at that time declared Tibet had been more independent than many UN members had ever been.

A courtesy, since the non-communist republican government had helped the young DL's transport to Lhasa, and out of the clutches of a Chinese warlord in the area where he was born.
It was a friendly gesture to invite Chinese officials. Too bad current Chinese officials don't recognise friendly gestures.

That situation was completely different. For one, the south was already a part of the nation and Lincoln did what was necessary to preserve the United States as such. The south secceded over states rights in addition to other things. I don't see how that comment is applicable to this situation.
Second, The north did not destroy the holy places of the south after the war was over.
Third, the government did not move northerners into the south in an effort to drown out local populations.

Please keep in mind, it is the Government of China that is being criticized, not its people. In recent years the people of China have begun to rally in support of Tibet, with true interest in the culture, people, and religious views. The problem is the blatant censorship of their gov't that prohibits a true cultural shift in favor of Tibet. I see your perspective, and I think it is valid for you to question motives and agendas.

only about 5% non-tibetans(incl. non-hans) live in tibet; less than tibetans living in china outside of tibet, in terms of numbers.
