Although Journey's new sound is well shown in other songs off this album and is great, I am glad that they put a different sounding songon here. It truly shows how great they are at making their own music.
Arnel's a good singer. I just wish he takes time to improve his diction when singing English songs. He can speak with his homeland's accent, but for his own good, I hope he uses American accent when singing.
@newERNIEifyJourney if properly handled, developed, & marketed, Arnel could have his own place in the global music industry as a solo artist. like, marc anthony who isn't much of a looker before and even now. journey band could be just Arnel's stepping stone, but he has to look for his weak points and improve on it like how other non-americans did to break through the global market as a solo act.
@punkieannie i understand what you mean but honestly he sings the words clearly. I can understand him. If you are looking for an American accent or mothballs accent and that's a Damn sound. Arnel sings like a British singers.
In less than a week, my dream will come true, I'm going to finally see the b and that made my childhood the best one, with or without Steve Perry the band still ROCKS! I've never listened to something more beautiful than their songs, and i'm proud that after all they have gone through, they're still together and succesful :')
I am not a fan of the new Journey album but this is a GREAT song. Incidentally, this song is getting 4-5 plays a day on "Radio Creme Brulee" - an American internet radio station that plays current pop/rock music from both sides of the Atlantic alongside guilty pleasures, forgotten gems, and radio hits from the last three decades. To listen, type "radiocremebrulee" in your google search field and it should be the 1st result. Great performance from Arnel and Neal!
This entire album is a celebration of Journey sounds old and new, but this song I can't help but listen to over and over. Neal Schon keeps finding ways to create blistering new sounds without constantly reinventing himself. Arnel's voice honors the legacy of Steve's in the Journey sound but provides his own stamp. And the lyrics..."It's not who you are, it's where you want to go"...the power of faith and hope and belief in yourself is so important in these troubled times. Brilliant!
i already learned to play this song (by ear) especially the intro and mid solo part, i even got the exact tone, not hard.
if you notice Neal Schon's guitar tone sounds like a talking guitar, that's cause he's using a wahwah pressed all the way down to get the thin vocal like tone.
with my Digitech multieffect, using the JCM800, the EQ and the wah set to Clyde instead of Crybaby, and using the middle+neck (2nd position) on a stratocaster.
easy, just keep the treble to 40%, bass 100, mid 50.
Comparing Arnel Pineda to Steve Perry is like comparing swiss cheese to cheddar cheese. They are not meant to be compared. Your supposed to have your own opinion and respect the opinions of others. Grow up everybody. Its been more than a decade since Steve Perry left. It doesn't even take that long to get over breaking up with the love of your life. If you cant say nothing nice don't say nothing at all.
They have some similar vocal nuances, but I love to listen to "Don't Stop Believin'" by Steve and also "Never Walk Away" is one of my favorite Journey songs of all time. I think Arnel honors the original sound of the band without being a karaoke act; he has his own sound, and the band creates some excellent songs to showcase his individuality. Great to see the band celebrating the old and continuing on in the new.
'Resonate' by JOURNEY from the new album 'Eclipse' out in June via Frontiers. The band are touring the UK soon with FOREIGNER and STYX. - musicUwant2hear
the older that journey gets, the better they always are, even with new lead singer Arnel,Pineda, fronting the band,Journey, always gets better with age, which goes to show alll groups that the more experience you have,as a band, the better you will always sound
@thecarlover09 i don't think so....Journey's very fine w/ their present leadvox ArnelPineda....they gota make new rocking songs to cater their new set of fanbase worldwide...let alone sp's glorious time in the memories of yesteryrs...and besides it wouldn't look cool and sound fresh if that happens...and i don't think Journey wouldn't be this inspired and be bolder anymo to make new rockier songs if not for Arnel's versatility as leadvox..they wud hav retired long ago..perhaps..lols!!!
if you guys like this song, i made a cover of a few journey/Neal Schon songs.

@punkieannie - "for his own good"...
You make it sound as though "American accent" is the be all and end all of man's existence in the vast universe.
It's music, man. Music is not supposed to have an accent, much less a particular accent.

This is definately my favorite song off of Eclipse :) it actually kinda reminds me of the Bon Jovi song Keep The Faith in it's theme of optimism.
