  • Nah mate, got broken up, and sold for spares, got back what i paid for it :)

  • RIP connecting rod lol did you end up getting it rebuilt?

  • LOL

  • Ouch...

  • RIP

  • dude my friend has the first xr500 and it still runs well

  • I feel for you fella

Mine went bang too.Nothing more than shit happens. All the crap about them being bullet proof/bomb proof is BS

Was a lot cheaper to repair than my friggin husky when that went bang.

  • everything isnt bullet proof.

  • mine went down a while back, my valve cam blew a bearing and wore into the head . it then overheated and streched the piston shaft, scored the cylinder and blew all the seals in the gear box. a new engine, cdi box, and a few small parts later, its about to run again. just waitin on a stator coil

  • Is the engine hot? Has the bike something of gas?

  • @elsocioyepeto it was :)

  • first one ever!

  • Sorry for you.... :'(

  • i dont beleive it, an xr actually died? what happened!?

  • oil :D

  • Shut up fool.

  • @Northukbikers

    B.A. has spoken!

  • That engine is in a relatively high state of tune for an air cooled motor. They're notorious for overheating when run hard, the cylinder head cracking between valves, dropping/cracking valve seats, and other ailments.

It was meant to be an offroad racer and won't last as long as a dual-sport or roadbike.

None of the competition machines tend to be long lasting, regardless of where or who's making it. I think the liquid cooled XR650R is the only exception, and even that has it's own issues.

  • every xr is a very long lasting bike!!!

  • Actually I just moved it so it wouldnt fall over. - never mind eh!

  • LoL! He tried the old kickstand down, kickstand up trick! Rarely works, but ALWAYS worth a try!

  • Ha, what is that?

  • haha ;D

  • Connecting Rod. It's the rod that holds the piston to the crankshaft. Sometimes they just break despite proper lubrication and care. Not much you can do about it unfortunately.

  • conrod u fool.

  • laraki - it was full of oil, and had been serviced just 3 days before, - so no stupidity involved - the only thing stuipid is ur comment and failure to read the ones below!

  • looks like there wasnt too much life left in her any way lol she had a few war wounds thts for sure...

  • It had a hard life, ex race bike, then, hammered by a loony called Gunny, then hammered buy me, but I spent loads on servicing and oil, - age related.

  • I am a certified tech. Sometimes rods just let go, nothing you can do about it, it's just simple metal fatigue. Sorry to see this happen, I get buggered-up engines in the shop all the time, usually from a thrown rod; causes too much damage to save. :(

  • you drive on the left side of the rode in UK? never knew that

  • Please guys tell me what do you think about yamaha DT 175 !! i own one !! please tell meeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Small 2 stroke, - reliable, probaly fun up to 80mph :)

  • this is a first...me seeing a honda die lol

  • xr iss kult. 5 stars lg

  • What do you own then mr daftname twat?

  • where ya from?

  • I have one XR600R 94` but I don`t understand what happen with your engine, the time was wrong? or was oil less?

  • Conrod broke as described below, plenty of oil in it.

  • did it blow a hole thru the cases ? they have rebuilt rod kits they are not that expensive

  • dude, change da oil every once in a while and it will run forever. Bulletproof, not idiotproof.

  • It had an oil change and filter change just 2 weeks before and I topped it up with oil just before going out that day!!! , yes, proper oil, not crap, and no it didn't "run forever"

    Its now dead my friend.

  • sod that - dont want a blandit!

  • you should have got a suzuki

  • Can't find one for love or money!

  • Can you buy a second hand motor for it?

  • Nope, but if you need anything else other than the engine, I have most bits..........

  • I want your tires and wheels for my xr600r!

  • i got my self an 88 xr600 this week, any of you guys got a set of rear pegs hanging around you want to sell eh.

  • i knw how u feel,smae thing happoind too mine.gr8 bike.

  • Conrod and piston parted company mate, struck each other and it went bang

  • How did it die? I've heard they're really reliable and am moving up to one next month but this is slightly worrying!! I have the xr125 (check my video) and it's never broken down and I ride it from devon to hertfordshire and back every couple of weeks and commute daily.. great bike!

  • Got meself a FMX650 :) Sorry to hear about urs dude........

  • i lost my xr to some thieving pikey cunt in london uk, at least your's died in your arms.

i miss my baby so much,,,

hope your new one is awesome.

  • RIP

  • yup, sure did, race bike, road bike, then my bike LOL :)

  • Very sad, but no doubts she did have a great life
