  • I wonder how much editing was done in post to keep the orchestra exactly in sync with the drum machine. Peace.

  • I've made this a requirement for the students I tutor... just so they know there's more than Lady Gag Me and Nickel Day and Green Back and all the other soulless shit produced today. Thank you for including the composer and piece title with each snippet.

  • @smp1217 my pleasure :)

  • Simply GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!

  • man, does anyone have the music sheet fr tis, particularly for piano?

  • Bach:toccata no tocatta

  • I remember when this song was hugely popular in 1981/1982. I still have the 45. Thanks for posting this video.

  • very very very 30x!! awesome song ...

  • I likes the beats added to the otherwise boring classics

  • i've always loved the hooked on classics xD

nice work of that guy, and i got those cds xD

  • I'm finally making a concerted (no pun intended) effort to become familiar with a lot of classical music I've missed out on. Recently, I had a few classical CDs out from the library and recognized passages from this record! When I brought the Tchaikovsky's Piano Concert CD out to the car and stuck it into the player, for a moment I thought I had gotten "Hooked on Classics" by mistake when I heard the introduction! I also recognized "Rhapsody in Blue" from "Hooked on Classics".

  • Love the pounding Linn Drum! This is the ONLY way I can hear Western classical music before 1920. Peace.

  • It`s a Dream!!!

  • omg i heard this song on a Korean CD i had and lost awhile ago. i have been looking for it EVERYWHERE! thank you SO MUCH!

  • look on HOOKED ON CLASSICS MUSIC VIDEO 1981 you will see a very good version of thi

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Nice!!!

  • Just a great piece of music! I am an 80's finatic! Great times! Great Music!

  • 1780s fanatic?

  • I rather imodestly have to say that when the Royal visited hong kong back in 82, i and my family had the honour of spending the evening with many of them showing them round, then ending the evening with a sing song. We had a great time and many signed my copy of the Album. Just thought id share that.

  • it's Bach "Toccata", not "Tocatta", anyway it's amazing!!! Thanks for posting!

  • tnx, that's right, I've fixed that already in the tags.

  • I have all the cds, I have been listening to it since I was a little kid, they are the best!!!

  • OMG!!! I had the cassette of this Album, and the EX hated it. I thought you philistine!!! Thank you for this upload.

  • Marvellous. And great made to showing the titles on screen.5Stars

  • this is great in the 80s and its still great now

  • And will be great forever!

  • not being a music major i would guess it was done deliberately (off the original key) for reasons that they didnt explain

  • I found out what I was after. It was called Portsmouth Sinfonia.

Hooked on classics played like you wouldn't believe - badly.

  • Do a youtube search for it

    Portsmouth Sinfonia. Its there!

  • I swear there was a version of this that was played all out of tune and badly. Obviously done as a novelty joke follow up this song. What was it called and who did it. Does anyone remember>? I would love to hear it again..

  • I'm not sure but I think a part of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" (right after Mozart) might be completely off-key (by three semitones up), and Bach's "Tocatta and Fugue in D-Minor" was played in C-Minor instead - so is "Ode to Joy" (D-major played at C-major). So THREE pieces, not just one, done wa-a-a-ay off-key.

  • Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and you're saying they're "wa-a-a-ay off-key"? They are playing a collection of very recognizable extracts from famous classical music pieces and not the exact passages. Anyone would noticed this was not a cut and paste project thanks.

  • What I mean is the following:

    (1) "Bumblebee" is originally played in A-minor. Here is in G-Minor.

    (2) This part of "Rhapsody" is originally in E or F Major, and is being played in G Major.

    (3) "Ode to Joy", originally in D-Major, is being played in C-Major.

    (4) One other part, originally in G, is played here in C.

Everything else is either on-key or pretty close. No it's not cut and paste but the song's own orchestra and band.

  • Awesome!!!

  • yay after all these years i've found you again. I had this on cassette tape hehe. Loving it, thanks for this....

  • CO-SIGN! I've always loved this, made me interested into classical music. Thanks for putting this up!

  • I heard this music years ago and for some reason it is refreshing! And I love classical music - it is not insulting at all.

  • waaw :-)

  • the drum beat it's a little bit annoying...

molesta un poco que sea tan monotono...

  • Well, this is disco, so there's going to be that drum beat. Some may find it annoying. Personally I think it adds an interesting touch to the music.

  • My dad played this for me, when I was little :-D

  • classical music + drum beat

    =perrrrrrrrfect!

  • Great!!

  • =)=)=)

  • Music at it's best. And this from a 23 year old who normally can't stand classical music. I have 3 CDs and play them every day.

  • Does anyone know the performing artist for this music?

  • Hooked on Classics by Louis Clark conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as far as i know

  • That's good ;)

  • Bellissimo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • El primer disco de musica clasica que tuve me lo regalo mi padre y era este de alli en adelante me acerque a esta musica, excelente seleccion y arreglo

  • Incredible! thanks for posting this. Who would have thought that when that brief medley fad in the early 80's happened, that a medley of classical compositions would become a hit? And people called the 70's weird! (lol!)

  • Thanks Ted,I was DJing when all these medleys were around,at least they were better than Disco!
