Superdooperdave - I never said the ground game was boring. I love BJJ & I actually like EFFECTIVE wrestling... GSP/Frank Trigg is the perfect example of what effective wrestling can do. The only problem I have with wrestlers is that alot of them seem content to lie in someone's guard the entire fight & win off points. They don't use their wrestling to set up submissions or try to improve position. They're afraid of their opponent's BJJ skills so they win by controlling position. That's BULLSHIT.

Ever since he's popped into the scene, every time I've seen Alves throw one of those kicks i get a flashback of Rizzo chopping guys down with his leg kicks.
Fitch is a blackbelt in jiu jitsu but would rather grind out a fight then constantly look for subs it seems like. It wins him the fight but most fans wanna see wrestlers look for subs, especially if they are a blackbelt .
Just to clear up the whole Fitch vs Alves situation.... Yes Fitch did win, by laying on Alves for 3 rounds...that doesn't mean Fitch isn't a good fighter, he's great but in my opinion Alves is still more talented than Fitch, Alves has fantastic striking abilities and I think his takedown defense is pretty good eventhough he did get taking down by Fitch, Alves springs back up. Fitch on the other hand only has his wrestling.

Jon Fitch doesn't even submit people, if he did that would be a different story. He just fuckin lays and prays, Alves is obviously more skilled. @poganla123 Its nothing to do with that, its just that the judging system is flawed. Fights should be judged on damage and nothing else. do you agree that a takedown is equal to a knockdown? Because thats what the ufc seems to believe. I completely respect the ground game and love it when grapplers showcase their skills but using those skills to simply hold someone down and not trying to inflict any damage is not a fight and should not be as greatly rewarded as it is.

@PhukAdvertisements They should allow knees to a downed opponent. A lot of the wrestlers touch the ground with a knee when they shoot and that makes them "grounded" opponents so you can't knee them. Also shots to the back of the head will make it much harder to hold somebody against the fence. Anyway, those things are very dangerous so it's likely they're not being considered.

@mastermind4IQ i agree. i love K-1 and have followed it for a while. i love the ground game. i love watching damian maia, Cain Valasquez, guys who are pure technique and are amazing to watch. infact i cheer when things go to the ground sometimes. but lets face it, fitch isnt an exciting fighter standing up or on the ground. he has work ethic, and heart but its almost like he lacks a certain hunger to do better and to finish fights.

@KitchenSpeclol Then stop the takedown and make them stand. I have no respect for fighters and people that complain about wrestlers. Develop TDD and the it won't happen. And Jon hardly laid on him for three rounds, just because you don't understand what he's doing because he's not throwing punches constantly opening himself up to subs, doesn't mean he "laid" on him.

@WhiteMenJumping5 like i said, i enjoy the ground game (wrestling or ju jitsu) as long as people are trying to go for finishes. Fitch is content with just clinging to the person and letting the clock run out. im sure he can finish fights, but he doesnt take ANY risks to do so. he fights scared. he wont lose this way, but he will never get a title shot until he starts fighting to finish people.

@KitchenSpeclol I agree with your comment about Fitch not wanting to strike with Alves, but the way Fitch fights is a legit style, it's boring, but it works. Rather than complain learn it so you can work around it. As much as I like Alves you can't say he is better than Fitch, because Fitch has only lost once in the UFC and that was to GSP.

Jon Fitch doesn't even submit people, if he did that would be a different story. He just fuckin lays and prays, Alves is obviously more skilled. You can't call anyone a pussy for keeping the fight standing cause that takes skill to stand. Jiu Jitsu also requires skill but laying on someone doesn't. Anyone can fucking lay on someone if their opponent is much smaller. I'd rather watch Anderson Silva dance capoeira than watch Jon Decision Fitch and Georges St. Decision.

@ballsoffury4 if anything a fight should be exciting but i don't care if it is finished or not. Nobody thought Forrest Griffin vs Stephen Bonnar was boring even though that went to a decision and the same with Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. On the other hand before Frank Mir knocked out Cro Cop, the fight was a total snorefest. Anyhow with BJ Penn getting in Fitch's face, i don't think their fight will be boring. And btw GSP does try to finish fights but he is fighting tough guys with heart

@poganla123 Its nothing to do with that, its just that the judging system is flawed. Fights should be judged on damage and nothing else. do you agree that a takedown is equal to a knockdown? Because thats what the ufc seems to believe. I completely respect the ground game and love it when grapplers showcase their skills but using those skills to simply hold someone down and not trying to inflict any damage is not a fight and should not be as greatly rewarded as it is.

@thecrazyoftheinsane i agree that takedowns is rewarded too much in mma, i believe a takedown shud be rewarded the same as a sweep from the bottom (scrambles not included) however we have to use what we have, right now we have stupid judges that think too highly of takedowns until that changes fighters have toget good at fight off their back, set up sweeps and submissions. go and train with eddie bravo if u have to

@poganla123 Fighters that have a wrestling background are kind of hard to sweep. It's not the ground game people have a problem with, it's wrestlers who are content with putting guys on their back for 3 rounds & dropping just enough weak ass shots to keep the fight on the ground so they can skate to an easy decision victory. I don't hear many people bitching about BJJ fighters like Maia & Jacare, because they're actually exciting on the ground. Point-wrestlers are boring as shit... it's a fact.

@PhukAdvertisements bjj was created to defeat bigger stronger guys like royce defeatead a heavier dan severn in ufc 5, if you cant sweep him then try sub after sub, if you can sweep or sub after many attemps then he is just better than you and your screwed. look at pettis vs clay unlike many others that just lay on their back and let wrestlers rape him, pettis actually tried sub after sub but guida was slippery and he lost but this doesnt mean someoneelse cant tap guida off his back

Jones = wrestler, Hendo = wrestler, Lesnar = wrestler, Cain = wrestler, Faber = wrestler. @GMando27 I'll give you Hendo - but that's about it. Jones is impressive... I just don't like his style. His striking is almost GSP-esque... he stays on the outside & runs away when his opponent comes at him. He's never KO'd anybody on the feet - he has to take people down & cut them with elbows. Cain is just a wrestler with heavy hands - no technical striking. Brock... I won't even say anything about him. If you find wrestlers to be exciting - that's your opinion & I respect it.

@PhukAdvertisements They should allow knees to a downed opponent. A lot of the wrestlers touch the ground with a knee when they shoot and that makes them "grounded" opponents so you can't knee them. Also shots to the back of the head will make it much harder to hold somebody against the fence. Anyway, those things are very dangerous so it's likely they're not being considered.

And since it is "MMA" -- Mixed Martial Arts, you have strikers in there trying to standup, wrestlers trying to get takedowns, and Jiu-jitsu guys trying to get people limbs or backs. I don't buy the Grandland Rice quote, " It's not whether you win or lose, but how you played the game." A win fucken trumps any loss. Lombardi says it best, "Winning isn't the only thing; it's everything."
