Do Not Like.. horrible concept , can't believe its hitting production.. Give Tesla Motors all your Monies.. They need it to own your asses with their 45 minute charge and 600 mile range pure EV Model S.
@DoomSwitch "first to make cars and planes"? I know it's the default position of Americans to think they invented everything first, but you might want to educate yourself on that... ;-)
@CaptainChaos I'm Definitely right. Karl (Carl) Benz created the first car (In America). The Wright Brothers = first plane.. Where have you been? What's wrong with your schools and your internets? Fail.
@DoomSwitch Karl Benz (a German) created the first car, yes, but *in Germany*! You do know there are countries outside of America, right? Or do your schools not teach you that?
And as far as flying goes, go to the Wikipedia (that's on the internets) article for "First flying machine" and take a look at the long, long list of flying machines *before* the Wright brothers.
My car can go almost 300 miles on one tank and the cost is about $40 a month in gas. And my car didn't cost no $40,000 US DOLLARS. You can get a slightly used elantra for around $10K.
Even if it did get the claimed 750 miles per tank, nobody is going to pay $40K for that, except maybe stupid yuppies and celebrities.
I really doubt what your saying is correct but even if it is the Volt is a new start into cleaner technology. Technology has always improved as time goes on, so this tech will too.
I wondered the same thing also. The reason is because hybrid engines cost more to make and diesel engines cost more to make. So you'd have two of the most expensive engine types in one car. Enthusaists have no problem paying for expensive engines in powerful cars, but environmentalists wont pay that much more for a more fuel efficent car.
but not in the land of free ,,,,,home of the BRAVE
only iin the U.K.
McDonalds , taco HELL.KFC. could have Bio.DIESL for sale next week...they could sell it back to you while you sit in the the drive thru............for a buck a gallon
What about the emissions from the power plant that produced the electricity to run the car in the first place? One way or another, you're gonna be polluting.
The emissions from there is much less than getting the same power from an individual engine. Just because it's not perfect doesn't mean it's not better.
It is good to see Chevy is bridging the knowledge gap around the Volt. 2 issues
1 Don't use the cell phone price analogy because an individual's bill is what I thought about and that varies significantly per user. They are talking about $30-$40 base cell phone plan.
2 Drive home the idea around 'as long as you fill up you can go forever'. I realize it is in there but it doesn't come across that well because of all the other technical talk and her lack of inflection around the 'best' feature
The overall range is 300 miles yet the update of the tesla model s will have a range of 300miles, the only bonus is panic factor is gone looking for a plug in point and filling up instead
Range means two completely different things when you talk about the Tesla and Volt. The new Tesla you could realistically drive about 100 miles before you had to turn around and go back to a plug in. The volt you could drive cross country, the tesla can only realistically be a daily driver in certain areas of one state. The tesla costs over 100k and the Volt will be in the mid 30s. Two incomparable cars, the Volt is realistic for the masses while the Tesla is still decades away from realistic
Why do you need a 300 mile range anyways? Its not like all gas stations are 301+ miles away from each other. The only bonus factor? the tesla model s cost over a $100,000!! How many Americans can afford that? A lot fewer than how many can afford the Volt.
Let me put it as simple as possible.. The Volt is an electric car that uses electricity from it's battery to drive, you charge its battery at your house just like a cell phone, it uses NO gasoline whatsoever for 40 miles, for more than 40 you use fuel to recharge it's battery. The Prius AFAIK is a gasoline car with a battery that gives you an electric drive mode of 1 - 2 miles from Regenerative braking.. (Prius website says nothing about EV range..)If that's the case I go Volt all the way!!
use this slogan: the best of both worlds. the true hybrid
there should be some mileage in pointing out that a prius is just a slightly more efficient gas car but still entirely a gas car running on fossil fuels. the Volt is a battery electric car that can run on the sun and the wind. the true hybrid.
and btw, why not have Derek D and his team pitch it in ads. he's pretty happening and can spell things out clearly for an audience.

LOL! 40 miles? Its's already behind european car makers before it's even released. USA are good at making lots of stuff, but cars isn't one them.

this car is really a joke. I was excited when i heard that it was around 1000 miles on a full tank, now it's just 300....
my 92 civic can do the same thing with a regular gas motor....

300 miles total. 40 miles from the battery, 260 miles using the engine. Shit my girlfriends kia goes farther than that on a tank.

A Tesla with 300 mile electric range(even a Model S) will probably near(or over) $100,000 though. You cannot compare them like that.

The model S has a price of around 50k when released

Thats what they claim but I doubt that they can make a sports car for 50K not to mention the cost of the battery
