  • Honestly the review was pants

    In my opinion,

    It didn't make sense

    Pacing was wrong

    Characters were terrible

    Too less tree surgeons

  • @infinityeelTV you mean us or the episode LULZ

  • very detailed review...!

  • :-) good review

  • I thought that this christmas special was probably the best yet, because the storyline was partly based on reality and partly based on the magic, My favourite scene is when the doctor goes back to Amy&Rory for chritmas !!! I also hope that we see more of those tree people in the upcoming series !!!

  • Get the way Moffat writes and you will have what will happen in S7. You have to look at all Moffat Scripts and what turned up in them. Not the Aliens but the way he wrote it. Even Time Crash.

  • Moffat had all his ideas in Silence In The library. The parallel dimensions. Sort of alternative realities. Saving people onto memory sticks. Clone Children can't anyone see that. Just take a look at Silence In The Library and it is most of Seasons 5-6

  • this was awful!!! what is this shit? is this show only for kids now? this is a real bullshit to the real dr who fans whom been following these series since 2005.

  • @GraffBONE123 you saying we aren't real docor who fans? Well I'm not really much of a kid and I Haven't Really Watched all the episodes From 1963 (Although I Had watched all The Epsiode from 2005 - Now Exept well The Waters Of Mar). But Doctor who sort of gives epiodes for different people. People who like Horror, Romance, Sc-fi(All The Time), Nostalgia(Multi-Doctor Specials) and more. It's Not Only for Kids it's for all Ages since they made spin-offs one for young kids and Adults.

  • this was awful!!! what is this shit? is this show only for kids now? this is a real bullshit to the real dr who fans whom been following these series since 2005.

  • It was crap.

  • @straker2 Succinct and to the point.

  • @outofthegreenmist Thank you! :)

  • What? A Muppet episode that involves a little girl & it's too dark? What a f*cking surprise! So original! Such an imagination! The Christmas Specials are even better than the 45minute tripe.

  • I thought that the best part was that the episode had a lot to do with christmas, and not just not just events that happened around it. Nice review and keep up the good work.

  • wow nice review, personally i thought it was one of the best xmas episodes and very well made ^_^ lol

  • --------> and b)The wooden king and queen, were inexcusably bad special effects. Sorry if I have ranted a bit, but timey-wimey Moffat deserves much more criticism than he gets.

  • @TARDISlore7 Read through the comments. You are not alone.

  • Being an Anti-Moffat Whovian, this may not come as a surprise, but I was personally very disappointed by this episode. There was no convincing threat in the episode (acid rain, very Christmasy), Claire Skinner's acting was wooden, the 'comedic moments' with Bill Bailey and Arabella Weir were not funny, Matt Smith, as usual, seemed to be playing a Willy Wonka/Mary Poppins hybrid instead of the Doctor. Plus, the effects for a)The Doctor's fall to Earth (he can breathe air in space now?)------>

  • @TARDISlore7 The acid rain was a real threat, wasn't it? Madge walked, admittedly briefly, through it into the lighthouse thing. Why did the Androzani stooges wear protective clothing when the rain hadn't started yet and, when it did, they were beamed off the planet's surface anyway? None of it made sense. Typical Moffat script. He always tries too hard to be clever and ends up tied in knots. Like the Doctor, the series is now in free fall and will crash with its head on back to front.

  • @outofthegreenmist Silence In The Library is where we need to look for clues to where Moffat is going. I believe Amy is getting Clever as she is exposed to the Tardis. We are also looking at a sliding door into an Alternative Reality. Moffat likes to play around with time speeding it up slowing it down. Alternative Realities and Clones.

  • @Aspergianstar2009 I've never denied that Moffat has written some great stories, though usually under RTD's stewardship. He has a good but limited imagination for which he compensates by relying on overly-complex story arcs which confuse die-hard fans and alienate casual viewers. Like I said elsewhere, complex doesn't mean intelligent. We need more variety of story-telling. He needs to step back and bring other writers in. He moans about his workload. He compares his role to that of Terrance...

  • @outofthegreenmist i hate it when die-hard fans that have watched the old season keep complaining about the new season and of Moffat... cos seriously, HE IS A GENIUS... I'm too much of a die-hard fan but since the finale last oct I really started loving it on a whole different lvl. mainly bcos IT IS NOT confusing... I have been able to folo it well and the whole river arc is not over-complex.... this is the first (that I know of) char that is not linear with the Doctor... if you 'die-hard' fans

  • @Aspergianstar2009 (cont'd)... Dicks, but Dicks never hogged the limelight, attempting to write nearly every story. Yes, he wrote the odd one under a pseudonym and rewrote other writers' scripts, but he never tried to be a one-man band. Can you imagine how boring 70's Dr Who would have been? RTD could do it. A rare talent. Moffat can't. Nothing to be ashamed of, but trying to do it all and ruining it IS regrettable.

  • @Aspergianstar2009 That Doctor in the girl's world, do you think He's Omega or Rory?

  • Well thanks for your support and anyway thats what DW is all about different opinions nobody will agree 100%

  • Well, one thing's for sure: this year's 'feel good' Christmas special has certainly divided opinion in a big way!

  • meugh, i found it to be alright. it got kinda boring and predictiable about 30 minutes in

  • I honestly didn't enjoy this episode

  • Love this show and this episode was brilliant, people would argue it was missing the classic "big baddies" but I say it did "Christmas" rather well. I thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks for sharing, it was fantastic. Trust me..."I know."

  • @amadmaninabox i admit there are a few classic monsters i would like to see in the new series(example: ice warriors zygons drahvin mechanoids and i don't like the fact that every time the master shows up it has to be a big humongous thing) but i still like the new series and it was a good christmas special

  • IN LOVE WITH THIS SHOW !!! I loved it sooo much. and the ending was amazing.

  • nice review just a bad special

  • Awesome video!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I agree I Do Love This

  • ooo i wish i could have seen it!!! i dont have bbc America which makes it really hard to watch Doctor Who! i love the review! at least i can know what happened!

  • i still think since amy and rory was out bem back into the mix and why at the end of the christmas show.

  • i thought it was ok but i think it had its moments of hit and miss.

  • i seen it it was good mrtardisreviews hated it tho but i disagree with him the Christmas eps need to be magical not sad that why there dad lives that will make people go wow to and to do that it need to be a bit sad at the start

  • Thank you sir :)

  • This doesn't have anything to do with this latest video of yours but I have had a question for a awhile that I think perhaps only you can answer.Your Doctor Who knowledge surpasses my own amazing knowledge(background laughter)so maybe you know who were those two people who were holding down their heads at the end of THE END OF TIME with Davids Doctor?Only the woman put her head up and its either the Doctors mother or Romana, which do you think? Thanks! :)

  • @richpartist Romana chose to stay in E-Space as was said in Castrovalva so I would say it has to be The Doctors Mother

  • @Aspergianstar2009 In novels and audiobooks, etc, Romana is on Gallifrey during the Time War. Though, I agree, I think the woman is his mother as well.

  • didn't watch it, i dont like the idea of dr who being all harry potter style, prefer it as a sci fi show to be honest. like it still kinda was in the 80s, i heard caves of the androzani got an easter egg though but it still aint 80s Who

  • Aspergianstar2009 hi its Nicola im the biggest fan of dr who i liked the dr who special amazing 10 out of 10 loved it!

  • Aspergianstar2009 hi its Nicola im the biggest fan of dr who i liked the dr who special amazing 10 out of 10 loved it im a big dr who fan

  • Thank you! I'm not as computer wise as I should be so I'm not sure how to "pretend I'm from England"to watch the program....or is it programme :) Thank you for letting me know how it ended, and I'm sure BBCAmerica will show it again.

  • I can understand how this episode would touch many of us who had relatives in the WWII, although all of my uncles survived. Those letter and telegrams were scary things. I don't recall WWII, wasn't born, but I recall the end of Korea and all of Vietnam.

  • I love Amy and Rory, so I can't and will never agree with you about season 5 and 6. They all were brilliant, and River is one of my favorite person. The Christmas episode was sweet and perfect for the Target audience. I can't wait for my eleven year old granddaughter to come home to share this very charming bit true Doctor Who with her. But I felt that way about Moffat's entire run. It was written by someone who understood the spirit of the original show.

  • I loved it. I absolutely loved it.

  • this was the best christmas special EVER! you have to have a heart of stone not to love this christmas special it had so much heart and intelligence something that the other christmas specials were lacking in well, except for voyage of the damned with david tennant, but anyway i really loved this christmas special i dont understand how other people could like last years christmas special over this one becuase becuase doctor who a christmas carol was horrid flying fish? oh blymy ):

  • @doctorw2 I didn't like last years either. How are trees with souls building a time-machine (which they need a human to operate) so that they can float in space like stars any better than the absurd flying sharks from last Xmas? Moffat must go. Now. Before it's too late. He must not be allowed to destroy this British institution.

  • @outofthegreenmist it was actualy the soul of the trees their life force that built the time machine and i found that touching and very acceptable compared to jaws tugging a sleigh and goldfish swiming in clouds saving two dimensional characters that no one really gave a toss about. This christmas special had more emotion and thought put into it the ending made me cry amy and rory always set a place for the doctor at the christmas table that last bit touched me deeply.

  • @doctorw2 Why the hell did the 'souls' (as the Doctor called them) or life-forces of the trees need a glass space-time machine? If all the needed to do was get into space and shine like stars, they could have floated up or got hold of a rocket. Why a time-space glass ball? Typical of Moffat's typical copout 'anything can happen' solutions to all dilemmas. Fantasy works if it makes sense within the imaginary reality in which it is set, but if it doesn't even make sense in that, then its crap.

  • @outofthegreenmist have you ever considered that they wanted to save the widows husband in exchange for helping them get into space? this was a deeply touching story i dont understand why some people are so hostile to it moffat told a wonderful story here i loved this christmas special it had a lot of heart and soul.

  • @doctorw2 Have you ever considered that you are retrospectively (or is that 'desperately') trying to make more sense of the story than the writer himself bothered to? Mmm?

  • @outofthegreenmist no i understand what moffat was doing in this story this time he had his head on straight.

  • @doctorw2 I was referring to your suggestion that any decision by the BBC to sell the Dr Who brand to America, for profit, would be influenced by those of us who are demanding a higher standard of writing in the show, and that the only way to stop such a move by the BBC is to actually support the current trend for over-sentimentalisation (aka 'Americanization') of the stories. That makes as much sense as blaming people who complain about the decline in police numbers for an increase in crime.

  • @outofthegreenmist listen they have to make doctor who more modern to attract people who would not normaly watch doctor who they are trying to reach out to a broader audience. The old format from the classic doctor who stories would not work in todays media that sort of thing would only appeal to the fans of doctor who that have been watching it for several years and that would cause a severe drop in ratings.

  • @doctorw2 So, modern = stupid, does it? I'm not against change. I have no desire to inflict ponderous plots like 'Claws of Axos' on a modern audience. However, we have had some cracking stories since 2005, some of them written by Moffat himself; but it is under Moffat's stewardship that the plots are falling into decline with predictably mushy, 'anything can happen', lazy, fairydust resolutions. If the BBC sell the show, it won't be the fault of people demanding higher standards.

  • @outofthegreenmist please give moffat some more time he is improving with the stories series 7 is going to be real cracker and a lot of people are going to be eating their words about moffats writing.

  • @doctorw2 Will there even be a Series 7? In other news, Sherlock will air in May over here across the ocean.

  • @rohgenextfan yes there will be a series 7 and its going to be a major turning point in doctor who.

  • @doctorw2 Series 7 will be half the length of previous series. Why? Are the BBC cutting costs or can Moffat not handle Who and Sherlock at the same time. If the latter, then he must either bring in more writers and take a 'guiding hand' back seat, or do the honourable thing and step down. Major turning point = fewer episodes.

  • @outofthegreenmist the BBC is having major finacial problems Doctor who is very expensive to run CGI is not cheap neither is paying guest actors or paying for sets or prosthetics. I am a part time writer myself and you have no idea what hard work it is writing a tv programme especialy a popular one like doctor who. doctor who is about to undergo major changes which will take the show to a higher level of drama.

  • @doctorw2 Guest stars are usually brought in as a desperate measure to attract viewers. This was the case in the McCoy era when the Dr Who was described (by its producer) as the new Morecambe and Wise Show. As the standard of writing declines, watch guest star count climb. I'd rather watch a decent story with unknown actors. Listen, this is the NEW McCoy era. It goes downhill from here, faster than the Doctor falling out of spaceship. A subconscious metaphor from a worried Moffat?

  • @outofthegreenmist Sorry, American here but, what do you mean by Morecambe and Wise Show?

  • @rohgenextfan Morecambe and Wise were an incredibly popular comedy duo on British TV (they were not unknown in the US, due to Ed Sullivan). They were so popular that theirs was the show many other celebrities wanted to be guests on - from Peter Cushing and Andre Previn to Elton John and Shirley Bassey. In the late 1980's, just before its demise, John Nathan-Turner described Dr Who as the new Morecambe and Wise Show because celebrities wanted to appear in it, though audiences were dwindling.

  • @doctorw2 Another thing... If money is tight, why did Moffat spend a fortune on new Daleks (which I quite like, by the way, and never tire of defending to purists who only like the old Daleks), only to immediately shelve them because he thought they were overused? Asleep at the wheel? Probably - he recently admitted to being stressed out and overworked. Well, if you can't stand the heat...

  • @outofthegreenmist no thats not right moffat did not like those new daleks at all that was the BBC's idea to make those new daleks.

  • @doctorw2 Really? That's odd, because he defended them at the time saying he wanted new Daleks for the new look series, big, colourful, impressive, like the ones in the Peter Cushing movies. Are you saying he has a problem with telling the truth?

  • @outofthegreenmist I believe Moffat said we would not get old monsters. Um, yes?

  • @rohgenextfan My point was that at a time when money was tight, why did Moffat commission new Daleks, underuse them in a rather poor story, and then decide to shelve them? If you've paid for them, use them. They remain very popular, with dads and kids especially.

  • @outofthegreenmist he was forced to commission them by the BBC moffat didnt want any dalek stories in series five but, the BBC said that it would be a smashing idea to introduce the new doctor to the audience by having him confront his old enemies the daleks. Moffat rolled his eyes and surrendered to the BBC executives.

  • @doctorw2 'Moffat rolled his eyes and surrendered to the BBC executives' - were you there or is that an example of creative writing?

  • @outofthegreenmist I think because of the negative reaction they received. I read you quite liked the redesign but, to me, they screamed Power Rangers, and I don't think making the Daleks into Mighty Dalek Power Rangers is a good idea.

  • @rohgenextfan I think you actually need to see them move. In 'Victory of the Daleks', they were in a rather restrictive, cramped space. I've seen them move in the stage show and at the Dr Who Experience and I think if we had a story in which they were moving around a lot, preferably outside (in London!), they'd look fantastic. I don't think they've been given a chance. The average viewer doesn't have blueprints of classic Daleks in their heads. It was purist fans who complained.

  • @outofthegreenmist For me, it was more the color design. Too many different colors there.

  • @rohgenextfan Well, maybe Daleks are like insects and want to be colour-coded, you know - yellow for danger, whatever. As someone who grew up with grey Daleks, it wasn't a problem for me, personally. If Moffat is listening to fans' views on the colour of Daleks, I wish he'd listen to our concerns about the stories as well.

  • @outofthegreenmist Now there's something we can agree on. ;) However, again, I must state my admiration for Sherlock. Though I don't like His work on Doctor Who (note - I have not seen the recently aired Christmas special) I find Moffat's work on Sherlock to be brilliant.

  • @rohgenextfan Sorry if any of this discussion spoils the episode for it when you see it.

  • @outofthegreenmist Oh, don't worry. I've already read through many comments these past few days on my own volition. But, thanks for being thoughtful. Thought someone would post clips on youtube seeing as how I don't trust torrent sites. I'll just eventually Netflix it.

  • @outofthegreenmist no he was just going along with whatever the BBC wanted him to say actualy he was gritting his teeth when he said those words.

  • @doctorw2 So, you were there? I remember him talking about the new Daleks at the time and his mouth was moving normally as he spoke.

  • @doctorw2 Hm, if true, I wonder what else the BBC made Moffat do. However, in the end, it's still His show.

  • @rohgenextfan Actually, it's the BBC's show and they pay his salary. Many people who earn less than him and who tolerate worse and more stressful working conditions resign on principle from their jobs every day.

  • @rohgenextfan they made him do a lot of things like cutting out a nude scene of riversong, completly changing neil gaimans script for the doctors wife which was very dark and gothic and very good way better than the actual episode that aired. also the BBC cut out a lot of other scenes from mostly all the episodes.

  • @doctorw2 I can understand nixing the nude scene.

  • @rohgenextfan i dont they can show men talking about homosexual relationships and kissing each other but, no nude woman? something is a miss here.

  • @doctorw2 Don't entirely agree, but that's a good point. I remember back to when Captain Jack was naked

  • @rohgenextfan Sounds like a step too far. Did Moffat run that one past his children for approval, too? There was a bare shoulders scene in which nudity was implied, which is all that is really necessary as the power of suggestion is superior to anything explicit. (Anyone know where I can find out-takes, just to verify and confirm my assessment?)

  • @outofthegreenmist I would think it would be on a dvd release of Season 6.

  • @doctorw2 More time? He's been in the driving seat for two years. RTD made an impact straight away, and continued to juggle Who with Sarah Jane and Torchwood. Moffat deserves to be brought down a peg or two. He has often disparaged classic Who and talks as though his era is the best yet. He is now meddling in the proposed movie, a project which is a few year off by which time, by any reasonable standards, one would have expected him to have moved on from Who and handed the baton to someone else.

  • @outofthegreenmist two years is not very long and dont even mention russel t davies most of the episodes he wrote were rehashed rubbish always the daleks in almost every episode he used them to the point of redundancy. also he made some very rubbish monsters as well the slitheen farting baby faced aliens blymy where did he get such a horrid idea? russel t davies should have just left doctor who in the first series and handed the torch to pj hammond or terrance dicks.

  • @doctorw2 Two years is plenty of time. Some TV shows don't even get that long. Part time writer? Mmm... Really? Moffat is trading on the success of the Davies era. I admit the Davies era eventually ran out of steam, but Moffat's was running out of steam before it even got going. I can still watch the first four series of RTD's era. The first four episodes of Series 5 were enough for me.

  • @outofthegreenmist Hell, Father's Day is still a fantastic episode after all these years.

  • @outofthegreenmist to me series five and six were far better than series 1-4 as a writer i see doctor who just needs more inovation for example the episode the black spot could have been replaced with space pirates hijacking the tardis and called something else like timelock or something the doctors wife would have been better if they had kept neil gaimans orginal script for that episode lets kill hitler closing time and the wedding of riversong could have been changed also.

  • @doctorw2 Neil Gaiman's story was the best of the year, though, like so many ideas in the new series, it was probably culled from the novels. Speaking of which, some of the authors of the Virgin and BBC novels had excellent ideas and imaginations and if one is going to steal their ideas anyway, it might be an idea to bring them on board as a think-tank for developing new stories.

  • @outofthegreenmist @doctorw2 I'll take the Raxacoricofallapatorians over The Doctor marrying the daughter of a woman He wanted to shag. That story ruined Doctor Who for me.

  • @rohgenextfan i dont fancy that at all farting aliens, living body fat, a creature who looks a shambles by absorbing other people and then came the infamous fear her episode which was absolutely horrid. also russel t davies mucked up the timelords and Rassilon i could have throttled russel t davies for doing that! im glad he is gone very glad.

  • @doctorw2 Different tastes then. I can't stand The Doctor marrying the offspring of Amy Pond, when the latter could have been his girlfriend of wife.

Unlike ZipZag, thank you for being courteous and not disparaging me. :)

  • @doctorw2 The RTD era made an immediate impact and is the basis of the show's current status. It even won over the Doctor's greatest enemy, Michael Grade. Required family viewing, it neither patronized nor pandered to any one section of the viewers. Moffat has not only had two years in the driving seat, but he had one year of preparation before that. His legacy is one of confusion and lack of focus. He has good ideas which he wastes by not thinking them through and developing them properly.

  • @outofthegreenmist now if Mr. Grade likes something you know your on the wrong track completely especialy when it comes to doctor who. He probably thought "oh God look at this rubbish russel t davies has cooked up for doctor who now the show can die off and i wont have to lift a finger or pin in its demise die doctor die doctor!" moffat is a good writer but, i agree he lacks focus and is not thinking his ideas through.

  • @doctorw2 I may be wrong, but I think Grade liked it because he either had a new young family or grandchildren and discovered that the new series was required family viewing, something he and the kids loved to watch together. Even though I disliked the direction Grade took BBC1 in in the 80's, I had some sympathy with his decision to put Dr Who on hold. JNT was outstaying his welcome. His first years were refreshing, but things had gone stale. Colin Baker was doing his best. I didn't blame him.

  • @outofthegreenmist Mr. grades children like it but, he doesnt he only watches it becuase his children watch it if it were not for them Mr. grade would have been trying to pull the plug on docotr who permanantly.

  • @doctorw2 I don't think so. He said, 'I have to admit that I am now a keen viewer.'

  • @outofthegreenmist rule one Mr. Grade lies.

  • @doctorw2 rule two so does Moffat.

  • @rohgenextfan oh yes everyone knows that

  • @doctorw2 rule three: "Everybody lies" - Hugh Laurie's House character

  • @rohgenextfan nice one

  • @rohgenextfan Not everyone lies. Some stand, even when asleep.

  • @doctorw2 What's wrong with farting aliens? If aliens exist and have bodies and organs even vaguely similar to ours, I imagine they would fart. The Doctor must fart, after all... And, er, didn't Mr Moffat write the (excellent) 1999 Comic Relief Dr Who story which featured farting aliens who became extinct after discovering fire? Shock! Horror! Farting aliens first thought of by Steven Moffat! NO, it can't be!

  • @outofthegreenmist that was a comedy sketch moffat did not an actual doctor who episode that was done for comic relief moffat would never put farting aliens in the series he has better sensibilities than that.

  • @doctorw2 At the time, he probably thought it was the only Dr Who he would ever write, and aren't you missing the comic element in Slitheen debut story? Don't you think little children found that aspect of an otherwise serious story (politics/war on terror/media manipulation) amusing?

  • Also the other episodes of DW were nothing. I hated the Rory and Amy show with River Song being revealed as their bastard offspring. I am sick to death of the Soap Filled Drama crap. At least this episode was character driver with a strong storyline. No River Song and only Amy and Rory at the very end. No crap gay scenes. No rubbish about Weddings. The Doctor was foremost in our minds. He was first in line for once. Not overshadowed by the rest of the cast.

  • Best ever , Am I the only one that hated it ?????

By the time it got too half an hour I was about to committ suicde.

but to be fair everyone else in my family was drunk and shouting so I missed about every other line :/

And the exploding space ship was explained in the prequel , you should check it out.

  • @DWhoFan2011 Read the rest of the comments. You are not alone.

  • @outofthegreenmist I did just after I posted it.

  • I enjoyed this years Christmas special a lot more than last years last years just board me

  • Very nice review and nice to hear a fellow north-easterner on YouTube.

  • Very poor episode imo

  • @Robotdrummerzzk that i agre on

  • I liked the special effects at the beginning but personally I thought the story wasn't as good it lacked the danger, the only danger was the acid rain really and the story seemed like a story from the dr.who adventures comic strips were there is no real threat and no one dies and it's a happy ending (I am not saying that I wanted anybody to die but it just lacked the danger). I must admit that the Lancaster bomber was good also.

  • @facialburper I grew up building Airfix models of WW2 planes and the Lancaster was my favourite. Normally, anything on TV featuring a Lancaster puts a big smile on my face. But not even the appearance of my favourite aeroplane of all time could get my attention in what is probably one of the worst Dr Who stories ever!

  • @outofthegreenmist Yes I agree it didn't feel like Dr.who to me, the BBC might as well show it on cbeebies rather than BBC 1.

  • @facialburper Yes, Dr Who isn't supposed to be 'feel good' TV, it's meant to be 'feel threatened', ending on 'feel relieved'. Instead, this time I felt sick.

  • @outofthegreenmist It is like in the episode 'Closing time' when Craig seemed he was going to die as he was going to be converted, but no he lived through the power of love.

  • @facialburper Yes, he was right inside that Cyberman suit, the point of no return and then... the sound of a baby crying and out he pops, completely reversing Cyber processing technology. Give me a break. .

  • @facialburper I must admit there was no danger element. But you must remember that DW at Christmas should be for all the family and not too dismal or gothic as it needs to be a light hearted experience. The DW this Christmas reminded me of the old Disney Classics and the old days of TV when you could watch a Movie or TV Program and not worry that something inappropriate would come on that you did not want the kids to see. It beats that gay crap as well

  • @Aspergianstar2009 I suppose it fits in with the festive period but lets hope that series 7 and the 50th anniversary is more promising.

  • @facialburper After the 50th anniversary, the BBC will probably drop the British TV series in favour of the proposed Yates movie, just like they did in 1989 - dropping a series clearly in decline in favour of the Americans adopting the franchise. The Moffat era is McCoy-era Mark II - CGI and guest stars in lieu of proper stories.

  • @outofthegreenmist Yes, Dr.who seems to be gradually going down the same road as it did the last time as Dr.who confidential has been axed and the quality of the story plots of Dr. who. It needs a new fresh start (a better one).

  • @facialburper not necessarily becuase doctor who is getting much more popular in the united states and moffat is targeting the american media to make doctor who have more influence there and its working. so even if the BBC decides to axe the show the americans will pick it up and more than likely make it much more popular globaly and Britian will have lost its own beloved show becuase of complainers like yourself.

  • @doctorw2 LOL! Are you kidding? If the BBC sell Dr Who to America, I think you'll find their motivation for doing so will be profit, not British licence-payers complaining about the soppy, corny (and deliberate) Americanisation of a British cultural phenomenon. You are confusing cause and effect, my friend.

  • @outofthegreenmist listen if doctor who gets sold to the americans it will be our own fault for not standing by our show and giving it our full support.

  • @doctorw2 How do you figure that out? That line of argument makes as much sense as a Moffat script. (You're NOT Moffat, are you, by any chance?)

  • @outofthegreenmist the soul of the trees were in the widows mind remember they obviously were an alien intelligence that sensed strong emotion thats why they rejected the doctor as a carrier for their intelligence timelords have a very low emotional threshhold. These souls or intelligences had formed an empathic link with the widow and were able to give her what she wanted most.

  • @doctorw2 If they were intelligent enough to 'grow' a glass space-time capsule (and why not just a space capsule?), why weren't they intelligent enough to design one that the wooden king and queen could pilot? That's like designing a car no one can drive. More Moffat nonsense, like the strange 'stalking' approach to courtship.

  • @facialburper I agree. A reboot should also include a replacement for Murray Gold who has, IMO, outstayed his welcome. His corny pratfall themes and dramatic signatures are becoming stale, predictable and boring.

  • I did like it but it's not Moffat's best. Also, I was missing Confidential.

  • @Dubzoomember It would have been nice to see behind the scenes. I think it would be nice if on the box sets that Moffat gets a sort of mini confidential specially made for the box sets

  • I thought it was the best christmas ep. for a long time

  • @Jbscoolsims I agree it really had all the elements of Christmas

  • @Aspergianstar2009 YOU REALLY LIKED IT!!! I WOOD RATE IT 2 OUT OF 10!!!

  • I don't think people in the US can watch it online.

  • @richpartist yes they can get a proxy such as tor they are free. Now simply use that to pretend you are in the UK then you can watch it like anyone else

  • @outofthegreenmist - I do not have cable. In fact, after Doctor Who airs, I go to a torrent site, download it, and watch it on my computer. Been a fan since 1979

  • @Monkofmagnesia I meant 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks', but, even then, surely it's on US TV quite a lot, or has been in the last 40 years. I'm younger than you, but saw it in the cinema at a time when independent local cinemas still showed things like that during school holidays.

  • @outofthegreenmist Well both of you I am 42 next year LOL. I have been fortunate to look young for my age. Even sometimes the grey hair goes into remission but I do not dye it. So end of the day maybe I am a secret time lord lol

  • @Aspergianstar2009 42 - the answer to life, the universe and... EVERYTHING!

  • @outofthegreenmist thats true but 42 is still 2 years over 40. Although life is meant to begin at 40 but something good has to happen next year

  • I hope its on again over here because I taped it since I was away for Christmas AND I MISSED THE END!!!!!!!!!!! It stopped just after that tree dome went flying into the air,so what happened after that??????????????? :(

  • @richpartist You can watch it again, on the official Doctor Who website

  • @richpartist The Widow Madge went back to the house. She was about to tell the story to the children that their Father was dead. But the Doctor stopped her and finally said you better look outside well there was one star that Reg followed and that brought him to safety and so she brought her husband back. Then Madge talks to the Doctor and he says how he has pretend he was dead and Madge said don't people miss you and he said I am not sure. Then he ends up realising that Amy and Rory missed

  • @richpartist Continued him and even set him a place at their table every Christmas. He then realises that he does have friends that care and that they are scattered all throughout time and space all of them missing The Doctor and thinking he was Dead. He sheds a tear and goes inside to realise how much people care and it is very human. Honestly I think one of the best next to blink Steven Moffat wrote. But of course certain Students who never had this experience do not agree

  • I am impressed..... that you know "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." I saw it when I was a child, but I'm 49. You're either older than you look (909 perhaps?), or just have great taste when it comes to films.

  • @Monkofmagnesia I'm sure it's on TV this week.

  • i also enjoyed the new doctor who christmas special it was much better than the last christmas special good review God bless you both take care i pray you both have a great happy new year

  • Thanks, as always, for posting on this. I've shared some of my own thoughts on my blog, Exploring Our Matrix. It works, like so many recent episodes, much more at the emotional level than any other. But it explores the big questions of human existence powerfully and effectively!

  • @ReligionProf thank god someone with brains. Like I said though it takes life experience to really appreciate this story. It works for adults and young children but is lost on the teenagers who normally are very selfish and would not understand the concept

  • I enjoyed this review! How recent was this episode!? When do you think this episode will be available in American BBC? A Merry Christmas to you!

  • @fuckyouobama1 Not sure but there is a certain episode you may be able to help me with and that is the one that is supposed to be the most downloaded in the USA of the Matt Smith Era

  • Cool review :D
