  • Will a HD+ screen work?

  • @joerobo100 define HD+?

  • @unity303

HD+ is 1600 by 900 the panel i have in mind is the one off the T520 which has a 40pin connector.

  • Thanks for the Tutorial. I just replaced my screen. It was simple but the tutorial made it much easier. Cheers!

  • Cables may be a culprit. However, EDID is also possible. May be both of them. What do you think of it? FYI, at least models of some years ago need EDID modification by hex editor, and some kind of software, and so on.

  • Thanks

  • Thank you very much for the tutorial. It helped me a lot.

  • thanks for making the tutorial. thinking of getting one of these and upgrading the screen myself. so the screen only has the one connector on the back then? i have seen some laptop repair tutorials with a second connector near the bottom? and do you happen to know if an au optronics 1080p matte screen will be compatible?

  • @hoojamaflicks technically there are 2 connectors: #1 at the top (for the webcam/microphone), #2 near the bottom (for the video). the 1080p screen will not be compatible (i've tried) and this is due to the pin assignment of the video cable. if you were to somehow get the right kind of video cable (probably impossible, i've also tried), then i am confident the motherboard would support the video resolution. but you'd have to get a different cable. can't help u there

  • @unity303 when you say pin assignment of the video cable, is it the actual number of pins that's the problem? i was looking at an optronics 1080p matte - connector is 40pin, bottom left. is the connector on the e520 20 or 30 pin perhaps?

  • @hoojamaflicks no, the number of pins is not the problem. actually now that I think about it for a second, it is possible that a different manufacturer might work. I used an LG brand 1080p glossy, and the result was I would get vertical red lines, although I could (sorta) see what was intended to be displayed. i might consider giving it a shot, but really there are no guarantees of course

  • @hoojamaflicks the connector on the e520 is 40 pin

  • @unity303 the lenovo w520 uses the exact matte 1080p screen i'm looking at. i'm thinking the cable from a w520 will make 1080p screens work with the e520. when you were taking the screen off, could you see what access was like to the rest of the cable to replace it?

  • @hoojamaflicks essentially yes. you can replace the cable, with some effort. i'd like to see what the w520 cable looks like.

  • @unity303 i'm going to see if i can order one from lenovo...

  • @MrJaideepsingh The touchpad works fine, I personally just don't use touchpads *at all* I prefer trackpoints. Glossy vs. Matte is a personal preference as well, I like the glossy finish because to me the image looks sharper. Any cellphone headset that is the normal headphone jack size will work (pretty much any Android/iPhone)

  • does it have blue tooth and hows the touch pad, screen and camera, and wat about that single headfone and mic jack..how do we use it

  • @MrJaideepsingh BT: Yes. Touchpad: Don't use it (I'm a fan of trackpoint). Screen looks good but I wish it came in higher resolution, and I should have bought Glossy screen from the start. Single headphone/mic jack works just like an iPhone single headphone/mic jack. If you have an iPhone headset, it'll pick up the mic perfectly.

  • nice video.. im planning to go for Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520 1143-3FU..is it a good choice

  • @MrJaideepsingh I'm a pretty big fan of it. They keyboard is super sleek. I love the numpad on the E520. 500gb HD is useful too. The only thing is I wish it was a little more compact (thinner) but there's not much you can do about that since the price is so cheap.
