  • how is the geology graduate program?

  • Only go to UCSC if your major is one of the majors most acclaimed. Not all professors are as informed as your middle-school teachers.

  • @imagineers0 I'm sure the undergrad experience for any ucsc student has drastically changed from 30 years ago

  • I wish I can turn back the clock and re live my years at UCSC. I would do it in a hear beat.

  • Get to know your professors outside of the classroom and lecture hall. You'll be so sorry later if you don't. They can open doors nobody else can. A letter or two of recommendations from your professor can mean life and death to your career choices. Don't let a good librarian go to waste. They are an incredible asset. They can make what seems arduous into something exciting. Get to know them.

I hated administration in the early 80s(hated it), but I got a great career from the choices I made.

  • I was a student at college 8 in the early 80s. Pick your major carefully. Get the best advisor you can, if you aren't satisfied with the one you are assigned to, get someone else. If at all needed, find a good student assistant/tutor to help you with your term papers. USE YOUR LIBRARIANS. Can't stress that enough. They can do MARVELOUS things for you if you let them. Find one and talk a while. Not every professor here is terrific. Find the one's that are and skip the rest.

  • gonna do the TAG program at community college then transfer to UCSC =D ill seeu guys there at my junior year!!!

  • i have a 4.1 GPA but my SAT score is TOTALLY horrible..... D:........does anything think i still have a chance of getting accepted???

  • Hoping to transfer to Santa Cruz as soon as I can!

  • hee hee hee. "Different Perspectives." Hardly. It's a fascist/leftist place. Everyone thinks the same. The exact opposite of diversity. What a waste of air space.

  • im in high school. im taking geometry right now as a sophmore. what should my GPA be to be accepted into ucsc. please reply

  • @masadeh1 2.0

    No just kidding XD

    Over 3.3

  • Recently graduated :]

  • If you don't find a great counselor, you may find yourself dropping out. Get a good one. Fire yours rather than stay with a bad one. And there ARE bad ones. Ask lots of questions and keep asking. You have to be assertive to do well. Get to know your professors. See them at their offices and get to know them. You'll need their letters of recommendation; something you might not get without putting some time into getting to know some faculty. Remember this, you are paying them.

  • Select your Professors VERY carefully. There are, as said here, world class programs... asn terrible as well. If you scout out the classes over the first week, pay close attention to what that class is going to be all about. Chances are, when you graduate you'll say 1/3 classes were fantastic, 1/3 boring and 1/3 just horrible.

Really, make sure you get a very good counselor. That too can make or break you.

  • Expect me Fall of 2013! Majoring in Film and Digital Media Studies.

  • I'm going to transfer here in about a year. This is my promise land.

  • @Avatar831 ME TOO! Stevenson

  • I really want to go to ucsc anyone who is currently attending or got accepted for fall '11 could you please flll me in on what they look for and what I should focus on doing to increase my chances. Thank you so much i'll he a senior this fall.

  • @thatisreallydumb

    Diversity.

  • sooo I have a 3.2 gpa and got a 2000 on my SAT. can i get in? my grades showed tons of improvement (4.0 second semester junior) and i have extracurriculars pouring out of every crevice

  • @dameditatingpanda Without a doubt you'll get in. My SAT scores were 1700 and now I'm attendin there this fall xD

  • @Urepanny How much Math is required on this test if any. Any idea if it's an overall average encompassing all subjects? Thanks

  • @dameditatingpanda

Make sure you explain you're improvment in your personal statement

  • @reynante09 you know, to be honest, the lectures here yeah are 200+ kids. but thats why when u have section the classes have like 20 kids per room =]

I dont think ur gonna like UCM but goodluck.

  • @reynante09 what made y ou not chose UCSC

  • I wonder if this university provides financial aid for international students :)

  • Comment removed

  • @reynante09 UCM SUCKS!

  • Yayyyyyyy!! Accepted to Santa Cruz for Fall 2011 and im DEFINITELY going there...im so excited :D it's so beautiful <3

  • university of arizona or ucsc?!!

  • choosing UCSC over Cal Poly SLO, spring spotlight did not dissapoint =D

  • @reynante09 ucsc no doubt

  • I'm a sophomore in high school right now and I'm not a California resident and my grades freshman year and first semester of sophomore year were terrible but I'm working really hard now and I really want to go to Santa Cruz. Do you think it's too late? Or if I keep working really hard and do really good the rest of my sophomore year and my junior and senior year I could maybe end up getting accepted? Thank you.

  • @CoreyL11 I'm an out of state student here in Florida and I was accepted UCSC looks great and I would say keep at it the most important year by far is junior year. The only problem is the out of state tuition which cost so much I want to go but at the moment I have no way to pay for it. Which is a dream killer but Like I said before keep at it and as Long as you stay involved in school activities and sports you'll most likely be accepted.

  • @CoreyL11

you should have a chance my grades were horrible even getting an F in a class and I got accepted into Santa Cruz. lol. but get ur SAT up mine was decent not too good but I guess that's what kind of saved it.

  • What about swimming?? Is that a sport thats available at UCSC?

  • My daughter received her acceptance letter! Toured there last Thanksgiving vacation and LOVE IT! She is THRILLED :)

  • I got into UCSC! <3 i think im going here!!

  • Will probably be attending next semester. Pretty excited after watching this.

  • I got admitted a couple of days ago! =D

  • i just got admitted here as a transfer! SO HAPPY!!

  • Just got admitted here at UCSC, honestly how are the parties and life here at uc santa cruz?

  • i gotta into UC santa cruz most likely will go here

  • Admitted for fall 2011 Freshmen, my first choice, soo happy!

  • @Avatar831 Congratulations. We'll see you soon!

  • @Avatar831 yay! congrats!! i got admitted too, UCSC is such a beautiful campus :)

  • Whose going to Spring Spotlight and what time?

  • @Avatar831 Me too :D!!!

  • @Avatar831 im a freshman now, AND I HATE IT HERE!!

  • @Avatar831 wait, are you from watsonville, hence the numbers 831?

  • @Avatar831 haha, okay me too. well, first of all for me I wanted to go to USC, not UCSC. The fact that it is so close is one of the biggest pros and cons. I grew up in this area so nothing about it is really adventurous. But, I think YOU would like it....this place just isnt for me, im not a nature person and I need rain boots to get to class cause of how much forest paths are used to get to class.

  • @Avatar831 OH, and cant forget about ALL the druggies!

  • i got my acceptance letter from UCSC today :)

  • @indvolta Congratulations!

  • I applied to UCSC...I wonder if it is better to go to UCSB or UCSC

  • Ya UCSC is a great place for the "Open minded individual".....As long as you're; intolerant to anything remotely conservative, patriotic, religious, civilly obedient, rational, heterosexual, or abstinent (including sex, drugs, alcohol). But if you're a spoiled rich liberal kid with a "I want to protest everything just for the sake of feeling self-righteous" attitude, it's a great college! And if you love doing drugs and fucking people like it's going out of style you should get a dorm in Porter!

  • UCSC doesnt have anything for pharmacy does it

  • I applied to this school! I hope i get in!

  • @IsolatedIsis I got it! :D YAY!

  • I cant decide between UCSB and UCSC :(

    HELP!

  • @ninuchi UCSB is a party school besides Berkeley, if you really want to learn and be an environment such as UC Santa Cruz I would definitely go for it. UCSC is my top choice to transfer to

  • UCSC looks nice but too bad they do not offer Mechanical Engineering.

  • It's a dream college for many students from L.A. Very well organize, great teachers and wonderful environment.

  • Born and raised in Santa Cruz & SC is grweat but I made the terrible mistake of choosing college 8. I chose to major in Environmental planning, but the counselor, a geology professor seeing I was female, told me to major in women's studies... what the ...? Attending UCSC without a counselor was a disaster. Miserable.

I studied Russian instead and became the International Studies Specialist of Slavic, East European, Central Asian and Baltic division at a much finer university

  • My best wishes to all those who will be attending UCSC. I graduated from there in the 1970s and it is a beautiful campus with lots to offer, especially to students who like independent study.

  • what are the gpa requirements anyone??

  • @digitalvisionfilms depends on a major...mostly i think its around 3.0

  • I'm so glad I chose UCSC over SJSU.

  • Just confirmed my Intent to Register to UCSC. ;)

  • Me encanta SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA.

  • I live in Texas, and I'm going to UCSC as a freshman this fall, can't wait!

  • I got accepted too! can't decide between this or UCR.

  • Probably coming here unless i get into Davis.

  • i got accepted and have been researching the school and the surrounding area for the past couple of days and i'm really liking what i've been hearing :]

  • I just got accepted, and hear the campus is beautiful!

  • I found out this past Monday that I was accepted into UCSC. I'm so excited. Hopefully I will see you guys around the beautiful campus. Congratulations everybody!

  • i jsut got accepted, nervous abotu attending this or UCSb though

  • @christianam323

umm i would like to apply there as well and was just kinda wondering what your gpa was if you dont mind sharing

  • @aiptext umm to be honest man, i did fucking lame in high school, my gpa was a 3.0 exactly, this school really doesn't loook for gpas, it mainly looks for students who are out their and involved in their school. however, my sat was decent i guess, i got a 1800, and i participated in like a whole bunch of programs throughout high school: leadership, student government, soccer team, robotics team, math club, and a whole bunch of other clubs, it's easy to get in to be honest man

  • Woo! A-C-C-E-P-T-E-D!

  • I got accepted here! My dream college.

  • Congratulations! I was accepted too and it's my dream college as well.

  • I just accepted here!! any viewpoints about it?

  • Cool, I will be there next year..

  • shoutout to COLLEGE EIGHT

  • hows the economics major at Santa cruz? im thinking of transferring

  • Party times ! UCSC Grad 2007

  • im in community college what gpa would i need to transfer to uc santa cruz i wanna go to law school what should i major in?

  • I'm a great fan of the former satirist and UCSC lecturer Tom Lehrer, for whom I made my channel. And I'm just impressed with the presence of this university on YouTube. In my home country they just don't get it, whereas you Americans? Impressive!

  • Whomever made this video is a jerk for only trying to "show off" College 8, 9, and 10. They didn't do justice to the cool architecture and murals from Oakes, Kresge, and Porter College. Screw YOU video maker, screw YOU.

P.S. Oakes, Kresge, and Porter are amazing, beautiful, and they have character...

  • And what about the awesomeness of Stevenson?! The one that's truly the college in the forest?!

  • Yes, that one too. And I'm sure Cowell, Crown, and Merrill also have some good traits that are worthy of being in a video....

  • @Rubynery ikr> I mean I want to go here and stuff but no college would say " we have a fucked up academic program"

I wish they showed around other stuff like dorms and stuff

  • ucsc is a great university, i'm just not sure it's still for me. but the campus = AMAZING. and the classes are pretty good.

  • trust me, you want to go here. UCSC has everything.

  • mhm i do go to ucsc :)

  • we went there for a tour, and if youre a more urban person, then this university is definately not for you.

  • ehh, there's College 8 and 9/10..... especially 8 haha.

  • Good times! UCSC Grad 2006
