I've never cut my hair in all my life and I'm 18 years old...sad I know, I'm afraid to. Thanks for giving me the courage to try it out for the first time lol...god I hope I don't screw this up.
I love your website and your video´s. I´ll be cutting my hair in a few moments so I hope this will work, but you have explained really well, so thank you very much!
Iv'e been using this video as a guide for awhile and its been great along with your other vids. I purchased the creaclip and it really does work to give layers. Have you used it?
@GlossyShoes No, I haven't used the clip and was wondering if the plastic would hold up. Obviously it does! and I am glad you are having good success using it! XO Carolyn
@cleresato It all depends on where you start the layers sweetheart. You can start them anywhere you like. The layers are uniform. Doing this cut by yourself however would be very challenging by yourself because of the length of your hair. You'd need help! You might do better with these cuts; long layered cut, how to cut layers, or layer cut your hair-easy V cut. (3 of my haircutting videos) XO Carolyn
I followed ur videos how do you hid where you lost ur hair line(i was on chemo for years where i acutely lost hair was the hair line.I been so self conscious b/c after 2 years it still hasn't grown back in after being off the chemo.Would you might know anything i can do to get it back or how to cut my hair to hide it w/o bangs. When i was little i hated bangs and still do now lol)b/c with me going back to my natural color i see it more (with the lighter hair to me i don't see as much).thx xxhugxx
@Nicolerulezlife Try an over-exaggerated side part. (You can angle the part so it goes from the far side to more of the middle towards the back or zig zag your part.) Your hair will hang slightly in your face but over time, you can 'teach' your hair how to act. If it doesn't cooperate, try a bit of gel or hairspray. If I think of anything else, I'll let ya know... XO Carolyn PS I hope you are feeling better now? I am so sorry to hear about your need for chemo treatments.
@NickyandEmmi Hope you found it again! There is a reason I talk so much or I wouldn't do it! I want to give you all the information you need so you don't screw up your hair! Anyhoo, have a great day!
You're awesome. I've been cutting my own hair since I was 16-ish...and now I've just about got to the stage where I can do this layering business without any major screw ups. I love your videos, they're so helpful. Thank you! Also...I love your hair. I'm trying to grow mine to that sort of length. :] x
Thank you for the kudos! So much appreciated! You're awesome for figuring out how to cut your own hair at such a young age. Its not rocket science but it does have a learning curve. We all learn best by our mistakes. God knows I've made a few in my time. Best of luck in your hair cutting ventures in the future! XO Carolyn
I just looked it up online and found an article about them but can't find anyone selling them. (did a pretty extensive google search for them.) This is what the article said: 'Layering scissors look like scissors on one side and a comb on the other. The design allows for some hair to be cut while other pieces of hair are not. Layering scissors make it easy for someone to layer their hair at home while keeping layers blended well.' I dunno what to tell ya? Do they work well? Not sure. XO Carolyn
@sweetbabe96 Having also studied cosmetology, I can tell you that layering shears do exist- unfortunately. They are also called thinning shears, and aren't worth bothering with.
Sorry you had that experience. I've used this technique successfully for years but then I've been cutting hair for over 17 years. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I've screwed up my own hair learning how to cut it. Some of the best lessons I've learned, were by making mistakes. If you totally give up, then you won't learn a thing. They don't teach you how to cut your own hair in school. Its a process of mistakes and triumphs! I hope you won't give up! Sorry this happened though! Truly!
Thinning shears are used to thin your hair and help create fringe. If I understand you correctly, use thinning shears about 1" from the ends of your framed hair, and thin them sporadically along the framed hair. This helps create more fringe. If you want to layer cut your own hair, look in my videos list:o) If I misunderstood your question, try again. XO Carolyn
Please watch my video called 'how to create long(er) layers in long hair'. (or something like that...)
The technique has helped a lot of people cut their hair. Since you're a little bit young still (no offense intended:o) and your hair is so long, you might want to get your mom to help you with it. Its pretty simple but can work wonders for straggly hair.
He is camera shy sometimes. (no not really, he was probably taking a nap or something). He is a Maltese and is 8 years old. His name is Ruff. My son Lars named him... lol We sure love our Ruffy boy! Thank you. Hope you have a great day! Carolyn
