Linda does good covers of other songs--almost as good as the originals--shows she is an orignal ---I think she rockabillies these originals--slows em down a little so that we get to see the song all over again--and we should as they are great songs.
I am not a fan at all., But this song is just great in every aspect, the writing, the lyircs and the peformance is absolutely perfect in an emotional way. I really love that song, thanks Linda and everybody involved.
i remember reading an old feature on linda back in the seventies where the writer describes linda doing her dishes and singing to herself,'it's so easy to have a hit,all you've got to do is recycle it.'
@LBjim Didn't know he was her manager at the time but I was pretty sure that was him lol I loved the duo of Peter and Gordon, I still listen to their stuff. I think Gordon passed away not that long ago. They were part of my youth and I will always cherish their contribution to the greatest era for music ever. You know, the 60's lol
@waynemegaman I would like to point out, Cher did techno crap in "Beleive" The diffrence in my opinion, she could sing AND was beatiful (Max Brooks put it best "A blonde-haired tired lookin little whore famous for being... well a blonde-haired tired lookin little whore." in a description of Paris Hilton)
This video (and others on here) were from an HBO special that aired in the summer of 1980. I know because I watched it when it premiered. Linda was touring in 1980 to promote her album "Mad Love."
@cheappd Yes!! That was the summer we got HBO and I distinctly remember watching this concert. That was also the summer I first saw "Grease" "Superman" & "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."
@ryanmanunited99 Ohhh. it's as good, and even better. I love Buddy Holly, I'm 67 and was there, and at school in Feb 1959 when heard the awful news. I have a CD of all his hits, this one is great, but Linda's has more passion, fire, more of a rocker. I love the way she ends it. She's probably the only singer who can make someone else's hit her own and make it even better.
This track reminds me of my early years at university..........Linda Ronstadt has a beautiful voice and indeed similar body configuration with my first girl friend............I wish I can meet any of them in future.
Can I ask, without anyone getting offended, if they thought they were hearing in the misheard lyrics department Linda singing in the song a song to Louise Jefferson? (She sounds like George Jefferson saying "Weezy").
I never cared for Buddy Holly's version of this, in fact I heard Ronstadt's version FIRST, and then decades later, heard Holly's. Ronstadt has really made a lot of the songs her own, considering the the originals were SO OLD, and original singers dead or never as successful with the song. The songs Ronstadt "covered" were lucky Ronstadt exposed them.
was this the L A concert in 1980? Crazy as it sounds , I remember the shirt Peter Asher is wearing.... It was a great concert and that was a long time ago
I'm guessing it was 1980 or 1981, probably a tour to promote her 1980 album, "Mad Love." One of the guitarists Danny Kortchmar, later worked with Don Henley on his biggest 1980s solo albums (Building the Perfect Beast, and The End of the Innocence.
