  • with my fish...is it ok to fry in fish fry (louisanna fish fry has 5 carbs per tablespoon... would this be ok to fry my fish with....on the diet?

  • @jadeisback I wouldn't. There are plenty of other good breadings one could use instead rather than add almost straight refined carbs in the form of flour or corn starch. I like to use Parmesan cheese, almond or coconut flour, pork rinds, Carbquik, etc. depending on the phase of the diet.

  • @bowulf ok...thanks i never tried almond or coconut flour...sounds good....

have you ever tried bean flour...brand Beans R Us? i like it on fish and chicken but it smells horrible...lol

  • @jadeisback Sorry nope - beans are typically higher carb too than the nut flours would be.

  • ALL meats are processed with sugar I have not found 1 lunchmeat at Albertsons, Smiths, Wal-Mart, Whole Foods, Trader Joes that do not have sugar. Is it ok to eat the lunchmeat if the ingredients say sugar/corn syrup/dextrose/etc IF it's 0 carbs?

  • @cind311 The answer depends on whether perfect or good enough is the target. Boar's Head is one brand without sugar or dextrose, but for most people, simply 0g of carbs should be fine. You would need to be really sensitive to sugar to react to the minimal amount.

  • @bowulf Thanks so much for the reply!! :) I am SUPER sensitive to any sugars I am very insulin resistant and have high insulin in my body at all times even when I don't take my insulin. SO I guess my answer is that no I won't touch the things with sugar so I guess it's no bacon, lunch meats, sausages, etc because I do get cravings when I eat sausages and things of that nature but when it's strictly meat and veggies I do NOT get cravings. Thanks again for the reply!

  • @cind311 Another piece of those processed meats that can cause the cravings is the higher sodium content. It's just another piece to be aware of the whole cravings puzzle. I hope this helps.

  • I have just started and my body hurts , 3 days in any reason ?

  • @isaveu nevermind I just found a link explaining

  • Ok so, I've finally started on my Atkins induction diet, and I love chewing gum, could you please help me choose an acceptable gum to chew? also a good multivitamin? Oh yeah, and an example of meals for the day. Thanks in advance.

  • @disizanewme Sorry, I am not a gum chewer, but most sugar free gums are fine as they are typically just sorbitol or xylitol -- sugar alcohols. I would still count the carbs and sweeteners against my daily limit (3 servings), but you can have them.

As for a multi-, I just used a cheap Wal-mart brand. They are all essentially the same IMHO.

As for meals for a day, I don't typically list menus as what I like might not be what you like and what I eat is not necessarily prescriptive.

  • @disizanewme Search my recipes on Youtube and any marked with (IF) you can have on Induction.

  • okay, so everyone says 2-3 cups of vegetables, but raw spinach and mixed greens are all so low in carbs. 3 cups of spinach is like 2 carbs, so how am i supposed to eat 12-15 carbs a day in 2-3 cups of veggies. I love broccolli, but is less than 1 carbs per half cup raw, so I would have to eat my weight in it to get to 12 carbs a day. I have been on induction for about 9 weeks and have lost about 22lbs, but I have hit a stall and haven't lost anything in 2 and a half weeks. No cheating.

  • @st11290 The new 12-15 carbs per day is part of the new book. I followed the old book, which was like you said 2-3 cups per day. That said 1 cup broccoli is 4g but 1g of onions is 12g (other vegetable) net carbs just by itself. Remember salad veggies aren't just lettuce either, it includes things like jicama and pumpkin.

For your stall or more properly weight loss hesitation (stalls are greater than 4 weeks), are you tracking inches lost too? Check out my what to do about a stall video too.

  • can u have tofu?

  • @CrystalEmerald2012 Yes, it is listed as "soy cheese" on the acceptable foods list.

  • GOOD VIDEO THANKS

  • super helpful!!!!!!!! ty!

  • @lauralikes Thanks for watching!

  • Thank You so much really helpful info and also thank you for giving us the website for low carbs' recipe.

  • @bravone1 No problem - Linda's is simply an awesome site for us low carbers. She annotates all the recipes she tries, and saves you from heading down the wrong path.

  • Jicama is pronounced, "Hick-ka-ma."

  • I started the Atkins diet last week and already saw some weight loss but a moment of weakness set in yesterday and I ate some pasta a brownie. I'm disappointed but determined to start again today. I've been struggling with my weight and hope to one day succeed. Thank you for your videos.

  • @willgraduatesoon I am glad my videos can help. Figure out what went wrong yesterday, and make your plans today for how to prevent it from happening again.

  • continued... and so far I really seem to be losing weight even though I'm consistently eating more than ever before. I' so glad I found your videos as they give me hope. I just want to say thankyou for sharing all of this as many weightloss success stories jealously guard the secrets to their success. I'm sure that your selflessness is not only changing lives but saving them=)

  • @Br0kenP0rcelain I am glad I could help. If I can help more people achieve the same success I did, I am happy. I know the first month, I had problems determining what to eat and had lots of questions. My goal is to lower the hurdle for others and give them ideas where I had to stumble my way through it.

  • I'm trying the Atkins diet right now, so far on day six. I've battled with a cycle of restriction, purging and overeating for 11years (I'm 20, pretty bad, huh?). I've found that low carb diets do the best things as far as my overeating and weightloss but never tried high fat before. I've only got about 9pounds to lose, but we'll see.The Atkins diet really seems to be working for me, my moods are actually a lot more stable.

  • I just started induction and was really hoping to be able to use the bars and shakes. Only looking to drop 10 pounds and will be exercising, Will the bars and shakes really keep me out of ketosis?

  • @beauty8116 With only 10 pounds to lose, I would say in your case you could use an occassional bar or shake. I would encourage you to eat as much real food as opposed to commercial food as possible. The bars or shakes won't keep you out of ketosis, but they can stimulate an insulin response. However, with 10 pounds to lose, you need to get to through OWL as soon as possible and might not even need to do the first phase of the diet.

  • @bowulf Really, so i might be able to move right on to the next step? I really want to shed the 10 fast and most people i talked to said they would loose it in about 2 weeks. Im really sticking to the diet and running daily. Thanks for your quick response.

  • @beauty8116 Really shedding the weight fast should not be the goal, it should be keeping it off for good. Losing the 10 pounds and then immediately forgetting what your learned or losing it so quickly that you couldn't learn what foods agree with you vs. those did not won't help. The only alternative is add to foods in the latter phase and watch for you gaining weight.

  • @bowulf The goal is shedding the pounds fast for the up coming vacation and then keeping then off for good with a low card diet and exercise. Thanks anyway.

  • Cindy...I was on it a week and went UP....not sure why. So I did more research on body builders doing atkins and and found some articles it is normal to go up then lean out. So I got angry over nothing. I did read to make sure I eat maybe more than someone else since I train 2 hours a day. I still am not sure about that. The only thing I notice on Atkins is I feel heavy and full. Not fat, just heavy. I am re starting, keep you posted. It is easy to do but I freaked out.

  • Well I sure screwed up. LOL. I was up 5 pounds and got made so ate a bunch of junk after I weighed myself. IS it common to GAIN on this diet? Maybe it is the body building combined? I have never lost it like that. I can re start it tomorrow I was just so mad being up after being so good not going over 20 carbs OR over eating. Thoughts?

  • I just hope I lose some of the body fat. I do not get why I am so hungry unless it is from the training. I figured eating more fat would fill me up.

  • Ok...I have added way more fat ( I was having like 10% ) it feel really weird doing this I do not see how as a body builder but I will see if it will help lean me out even more. I do not see how it CANNOT since I am 20 carbs or less a day . Right??? It is just a funny feeling to have regular salad dressing or mayo ( 1 or 2 TBS ) skin on chicken, etc. I am eating maybe more than I should but I am SO HUNGRY some days more than others. I train hard a good 2 hours a day .

  • @MsMusclechick It might not happen overnight - the appetite suppression, but it should be present within 3-4 days. Your workouts for the first few days might not be as good as they had been, but the boundless energy will be coming through shortly.

I was semi-scared of the fat initially too, but then I had awesome lipid panels to prove it's healthy.

  • @MsMusclechick I don't nkow how long you have been on induction but my hunger pretty much went away after the 3rd day I would say? I had bad headahces for about 2 days then nada after that :) I am scared of eating the fats too lol because we are told to eat no skin, no mayo, no regular dressings, trim all fats!! But this is the way we're supposed to eat, now I think I should take my own advice!

  • I use that Almond Milk it is the low cal one ( pink label) 2 carbs per one cup no sugar. It is good actually. In reading this is to be 60% to 65% percent fat I was WAY to low. I was hardly taking in any fat so I am going all out on it and seeing what happens. Leave skin on chicken, more red meat etc. I may do a higher portion due to lifting weights 6 days a week but I will be curious to see if I lean out more on this style of eating. I cannot find body builders who do this. Fat phobia maybe.

  • That is awesome...all your accomplishments. I think people fail to realize they NEED protein. I am 5 feet tall, weigh 180 and my body fat is about 19% which is not bad for a woman. My issue is in the mid section. I lift heavy 6 days a week and cardio daily, but no matter what it is just stalling. As soon as I add carbs BOOM I gain. I found a no carb whey shake I am using too and with water not the milk. I just feel better on less carbs. And i sleep good. Ill add more fat. I hardly eat it.

  • @MsMusclechick Yep, the protein certainly helps with appetite suppression as well as simply rebuilding the daily damage our bodies endure -- let alone during exercise. I am sure you have a sizeable need for protein and simply energy to keep up with your workouts. You might think about almond milk -- get the unsweetened type to use with whey protein. I really like it.

  • What scares me is when I DO eat carbs....I notice I feel like crap. A lot of body builders eat sweet potatoes, brown rice, etc and I seriously feel sick and tired physically if I eat them. However if I eat chicken with skin on, meats and cheese, if I add carbs I may gain. I guess what I am wondering and I have read the book front to back and it doesn't cover this topic, but can one burn body fat on this diet, not just "weight"? I like to eat and I am a total carnivore so I want to try this.

  • @MsMusclechick OK, the goal of the diet is to start at roughly 60-65% Fat, 30% Protein and roughly 5-10% Carbs. As one enters OWL phase and gradually raises the carbohydrate content of the diet, you should naturally decrease the Fat content of the diet. You continue to raise the carb level until you stop losing or in your case gain weight. That would be ACE.

I have been at maintenance for nearly 6 years and work out about as much as you do. (Run 25-45 miles per week, and gym 3 hours-lift)

  • @MsMusclechick So for the last 6 years, I have been fueling these 4000+ miles ran, 2-3000+ miles biked, and thousands of hours in the gym - lifting and doing cardio mainly on ketogenic diet of 30ish carbs per day and 55-75% Fat intake. I have never felt impeded by my diet or lifestyle. Its just who I am and how I train.

Of note one of the Olympic strength coaches, Charles Poliquin, advocates a low carb high fat diet.

  • I may TRY it and see if I notice any issues. It hardly has fat in it, as cream does. I am a body builder, and trying to lose body fat, not necessarily pounds. Unless the cream is okay. I am following this Atkins plan just not over doing it on fat...I know it says bacon etc is ok..I am mainly doing seafood. A lot of salmon, eggs , goat cheese, romaine and chicken breasts ( with skin). Im in the gym 2 hours a day 6 x a week.

  • @MsMusclechick You are somewhat the unique example being at goal weight when starting. I might in fact suggest more a Atkins for Life or simply starting at OWL phase for you (skipping Induction). I would caution about being too high in protein percentage of Calories (say above 40-45%), but other than that I think you are on target.

In that case, the Hood Countdown Milk would be fine.

  • How about Low Carb Milk..it is by HOOD..it has 3 carbs per one cup and 3g of sugar. I drink a pot of coffee every morning before I go to the gym and figure I can use this. I also found a sweetener that has NO carbs. it is Stevita NO carbs formula...iHerb.com has it for anyone interested. I am not to sure why they say on Atkins to watch coffee...it does not make me hungry. If anything it makes me sleepy.

  • @MsMusclechick I am of the opinion if it is not on the list then no matter the carbs or not, it isn't acceptable. So the Hood's Countdown Milk example would be off-limits. I go more into why I believe this to be the case in my Induction is more than just 20g or less.

For my sweetener, I personally use mostly a liquid sucralose (Splenda) model that has 0g too.

For coffee, it is the caffeine that can stimulate an insulin response in some people.

  • How about ceaser salad without the crutons? will that be an okay low carb meal?

  • @musicluver71 Yes Caesar Salad dressings are almost always fine and low carb. I keep having to remind the server no croutons too, but sometimes the silly servers will then bring breadsticks as well.

  • Hi bowulf...... I regained 5 lbs after going off of Atkins (From 162 to 167 lbs) and will to go back on induction. Does drinking regular caffeinated coffee stall weight loss beside spiking blood sugar? Also I've seen that it is recommended not to drink regular milk because of the lactose, but regular milk shows 12 grams of carbohydrates per 8 once which is a lot less than Half and Half per tbsp. (Half and Half or Coffee Mate is 2 grams per tbsp and milk is about .75)

    Avoid caffeine?

  • @nobux60 According to my carb counter book, 1 cup of heavy cream, which is more than one would ever drink straight, is 3g of carbs, so one fourth the amount of regular milk. Mind you on Induction you are 3 fluid oz of heavy cream per day.

I'll be doing an upcoming video on milk, but some people cut cream 1-4 with water to make a milk substitute, which would be roughly 1/12 the carbs of regular milk.

Caffeine is a YMMV, and as a general rule avoid it.

  • carrots??

  • @Clown5336 Check out my "Can I eat this video?" here on Youtube. It has a link to all the acceptable Induction foods -- carrots are actually pretty high on the glycemic index scale. They aren't Induction friendly.

  • have you reviewed the true lemon/true lime products..they have less than i carb...whatever that means...come in packets like splenda..and can be carried along for food or water flavoring...what do you think?

  • @mamasuify According to the package, it has no artificial sweeteners, so like lemon juice, you can have it. I would definitely say it is an allowable product for all phases of Atkins. I personally have never tried it though, so I am can't say personally how well it would replace actual lemon juice in recipes. As a water additive, I am sure it is great.

  • @bowulf cattage cheese??? does that work/

  • @Clown5336 Cottage cheese is not acceptable on Induction, but it can be added during Ongoing Weight loss phase dairy rung.

  • This is great! Thanks man. Do you know how man y carbs is in Sam's Clubs chicken salad? the roasted version? I love it but the carbs are not listed. Martins has chicken salad that is zero carb but it is so high priced

  • @imotep09 The best I can suggest is to read the ingredients. If it has sugar or sugar-like ingredients in the first few ingredients, the carbs are likely to be high. I couldn't find any listing online either for it. Ingredients listing are ultimately the best way to determine if a food is good or bad.

  • is bigelow orange & spice and /or lemon zinger tea no caffeine tea acceptable...if not what? and is there an additive for water like crystal lite that is acceptable...thanks for being a great coach.

  • @mamasuify The tea should be fine. Decaf tea is better than caffeinated ones. Check out my water video for other additive ideas, like lemon or lime juice.

  • Is fish ceviche acceptable during the induction phase?

it is lime juice, clamato, fish (cooked in the lime juice) and vegetables

    tomatoes, onions, cilantro and peppers?

  • @jdlctube Depends on what is in the clamato... I don't have access to an ingredients list, so you'll have to read the ingredients. Tomatoes and onions are limited to one cup total for the both per day.

  • CAN I DRINK THE AQUAFINA FLAVOR WATER

  • Im having a hard time getting in 20 carbs of vegges in per days, get bored with vegees, love salads, but those don't have a lot of carbs

  • @angelbrenda You don't have to nail 20g every day on Induction. It is an upper limit not a mandate, so if you eat within 12-20g, you should be fine. You might also think about adding things like peppers (also salad vegetable) to your diet as one cup of them is roughly 5g net carbs or tomatoes (other vegetable) -- half cup is 5g.

  • hank You so much! Great info, I just started Monday and its definitly inmortant to mix it up, I've never heard of the "Yicama"? is that how you spell it? I will be looking for it

  • @angelbrenda It's Jicama and looks like a BIG potato with a thick skin. YOu peel the skin, and cook it a long time to break down the fibers.

  • I am having some trouble. I lost 50# last year, gained 10# back, and I am trying to get back on.

*Having a hard time with Induction due to a recent lack of time to plan and prep, which last year had tons of time. So I may not be eating bad foods, but I am having trouble eating right amounts.

*Do not know if I am in ketosis or not. I never really felt the signs before, and the sticks do not work for me.

*Not losing, just the same 2-3# going up and down.

    *Don't feel the same drive.

    Any ideas?

  • ive never been able to work out the cheeses am i allowed normal cheese like edam tasty colby?

  • @nidhitripathy - one thing I've found to help prevent constipation has been to use supplements.......two that I highly recommend are the flax seed oil (small easy to swallow pills) and also a natural probiotic called Pearls (a small pill found at any pharmacy) It is the one way that I found to get the Acidophilus and it's benefits......(normally I'd get this from yogurt, but that is a no no on the atkins diet)

    Hope that helps friend!

  • Thankx for your help on my last query.I am into 4 th day of my induction have lost 1 kg wt but am facing chronic constipation despite 3 liters of water and psyllium husk 2 tea spoons at bed time.psyllium huskas per one website has 4 gm of carb per table spoon.kindly advice ow to cure constipation. thanks

  • @nidhitripathy I have a video here about constipation, so you might want to check it out. Things I would do: limit the amount of dairy / cheese, add a bit of walking or exercise to your day, and ensure you are getting 2-3 cups of salad vegetables per day.

  • I have started the induction, kindly tell if "Frying" the vegetables and meat /poultry are permitted in atkins? thanks

  • @nidhitripathy Yes - any method of cooking that doesn't call for infusing or coating the foods with sugar is allowed.

  • One question..

i read on the atkins website about the number of carbs in lettuce and they are really really low...

can I have a big just lettuce and low carb dressing in a substantial amount?

And yeah, I forgot to mention, i am a vegetarian :)

  • @indigal83 The website and latest book changed from a strict 3 cup per day of salad veggies to 12-15 net carbs of veggies per day. I still believe the original understanding is best or at least worked better for me. You can check out my Induction veggie controversy video for why I think that.

  • Your videos are so helpful! Question: Is salt something I need to cut out if I want to embark on the atkins lifestyle? and how can I find out carb counts on the things that don't have labels such as eggs, vegetables etc?

  • @chiquitabananaz14 Salt is a vital component of most diets. As long as you are not overdoing it (4000+/day), you should be fine.

There are numerous carb counter books and websites, like fitday or mydailyplate, to help you count carbs.

  • Great video, lots of great info! Thanks

  • Thanks for the advice, wasn't expecting an answer so fast much appreciated. And i would like to add your a great inspiration, thanks.

  • Hi, can i have coconut oil on diet because it has no carbs, if so can i eat coconut flesh?

  • Oil is fine for Induction, but the coconut meat is classified a nut (like almonds really low carb). Nuts should be held off until OWL phase.

  • @bowulf Hello! We should drink 2 liters a day! Is it ok if u drink most of the watter at once. like 1.7 liters in one go? Or should it be spread out through the day. And why ?

Also could you explane about watter retention, due to high sodium intake, how easy is it to get rid of that watter?

  • @sigrino The only danger in drinking the water immediately at one time is messing with your electrolyte balance. That said, I will drink 32 oz at a time without issue. The body will use that water and develop osmotic balance from it.

The water retention from excess sodium intake simply is that despite sufficient water in the cells. The concentration of salt drives additional water into the cells. For most people with good kidneys, those results should be temporary few days for an episode.

  • @bowulf Thank you!

  • @bowulf also I represent a rare demographic on this diet as I am 5 "10" 165 pounds. However I am trying to get my abs back because after a few years of a sedentary lifestyle, being married ,and eating a bit too unhealthy(too much fast food), I put on some belly fat. I am also embarrassed to say, but I even put a bit of cellulite on. Anyway, is this an ok diet for someone like me?

  • @Bigrobkerr It'll work for you, but just be sure to do two things:

    * progress through the rungs of OWL as soon as possible

    * look at it as a lifelong implication approach (not a drop it quick fad diet)

There is nothing wrong with Atkins for those with simply a bit to lose. It just means you will need to progress off Induction level carbs sooner than others. Check out my video about does it work for all groups? where I deal with this question.

  • i always chew sugar free gum with xylitol sugar alcohols, is this allowed?

  • That's fine but I would count the xylitol against my daily sweetener intake.

  • It's loaded with aspartame.

  • is red cabbage OK during induction?

  • Cabbage (any type - Napa, green, red) is a one cup per day veggie on Induction.

  • sorry another question...is string cheese allowed the kraft mozarella, im curious because it says 2% milk and since im not allowed in induction...

  • Here are the allowed cheeses for Induction: Cheese You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full fat, firm, soft, and semi-soft aged cheeses *, including: cheddar cow, sheep and goat cheese cream cheese Gouda mozzarella Roquefort and other blue cheeses Swiss I would say full fat string cheese is allowed, but not anything that says "cheese food" or "cheese product." Those are faux-cheese or more processed than real.
  • do you know if i can eat sugar free jello, is that recommended? or better said is it ILlegal

  • SF Jello is made with aspartame, which is generally discouraged on Atkins. There are however means to make Jello without the aspartame. Check out Linda's Low Carb. You may be one that is not affected by aspartame too.

  • AAAAAArghhh!!!!!! Look behind you 05:12

    someone's in u're house !!!!!

  • I love the taste of coffee. Not bothered about drinking decaf but are we limited to only 1 cup a day?

  • As long as you are getting your 64 oz of water in, you can as many cups as you want of decaf.

  • Can you drink V8?!? What is the perfect breakfast to dinner menu. Please reply. Thanks.

  • V8 is not Induction legal as it contains sugars and other not legal juices. For breakfast and dinner options, check out my breakfast menu - not necessarily like mom made video. There is no real perfect menu as it is dependent on tastes, and everyone's tastes are different. In most of recipe videos, I try to state if it is Induction legal or not.

  • Thnx sooo much for taking the time to respond to me:) OMG i have been having walnuts no wonder i only lost 3lbs the whole week.....do u know where i can find a pdf that shows the acceptable foods for induction? again thnx for ur time...

  • If you google "Atkins induction acceptable food list" the second link down from the top has the entire list on a single web page. (with some ads for non-Induction friendly items).

  • Don't drink V-8,..it's just processed. Just have a tomato! If you're thirsty..have some water or skim milk. If you desire that " tomatoey " taste, have some wheat pasta with tomato sauce and lowfat cheese, and non-fat yogurt mixed in with all the spices you want....pepper..whatever. Sprinkle a dash of Olive oil in there as well. It's ALL low cal and will get your bodyfat low and your waistline lean and tight. This is how the lean eat.

  • Let's see tomatoes, cheese, olive oil, spices are all allowed on low carb diets..

Wheat completely unnecessary. Apparently you were doing low carb wrong. As for lowfat cheese and non-fat yogurt, weren't you just the one talking about eating unprocessed foods?

  • I have been on the 1st phase for one week will weigh in tomm.. i have ate very little dont have an appetite just cabbage and chicken breast.. i also had walnuts and aby pickels.. is it ok to have cabbage everyday? I feel light but dont know if i have lost will let u know tomm

  • Cabbage is 1 cup per day vegetable, so yes you can have some every day. Walnuts are not Induction acceptable and should be held off until on the Ongoing Weight Loss phase. (It's rung 2 or 3.) I would suggest adding some more salad veggies (like peppers, mushrooms, etc.) into your diet as well as cabbage.

  • When I tried atkins before, it seemed to work for a little while, but then it seemed I was eating too many calories. What is the max amount of calories a guy like me should eat to facilitate weight loss? Do you recall the most you were eating while still losing weight? Thanks.

  • I never actively tracked my Calories only would find out because Fitday would tell me, but I do know some days I was between 3500-4500 Calories. I would hesitate to say what a max Calories should be. Rather eat when you are hungry and don't when you are not while following the rules of the diet.

  • can u have liqure during the fist 14 days

how many eggs is to much i eat 5 to 7 a day

  • No liquor (all alcohol) is held off until the 5th rung of OWL phase.

As for how many eggs is too many, 12-15 is probably too many in one day as most of your carbs should come from veggies. Be sure to count each egg as .6g of carbs.

  • I have a question, since we are only allowed 3 cups of vegetables in the induction part is it ok to for example add 1 cup of lettuce, 1/2 cup of cucumber, 1/2 cup raddishes, 1/2 cup of jicama, and 1/2 cup of mushrooms?? Or does it HAVE to be 1 cup of only 3 vegetables?

  • No, you aren't limited in the number of different vegetables per day - simply the total amount of vegetables of each type (salad which you listed above and potentially the "Other" vegetables) every day.

  • What type of Parm cheese would i use as a chicken breading? Meaning does it have to be course ground?

  • Any grated parmesan cheese is fine. I usually buy the cheap store brand for breading this way.

  • hey thanxs,, il have one diet coke a day and see how that goes.

  • how bout the diet coke,, and mayonaise is good to have as well right ?

  • Mayo is fine - look for the one without added sugar if possible. I can usually find at least one brand without sugar on the ingredients label.

As for Diet Coke, I personally gave up all soda for the first year I was on the diet. I think it is a crutch for a lot of people and was for me. The energy on the diet really comes in in week 2 and 3. So it is best to go without, but for some the aspartame and caffeine do not cause stalls or slower weight loss.

I personally did not want to risk it.

  • i have 2 diet cokes a day,, and drink plenty of water,, i know the coke has caffeine but its the only thing that keeps me going, and i have cream cheese with cucumbers for a snack,, is that ok?

  • Both Cream Cheese (max 3 oz of cheese per day) and Cucumbers (salad vegetable) are induction acceptable.

  • Can you have uncaffeinated and unsweetened tea on induction without causing your weight loss to slow down? Great vids btw :D

  • Yes, you can unsweetened, uncaffinated tea on Induction. Just make sure you get your water in besides the tea; other than that, you are golden.

  • Check on my "Atkins Diet: Not losing on Induction?" video. It should point to hopefully something that might resonate with you. If nothing does, start tracking your foods at a site like Fitday, and I'll look at it when I return from vacation on Monday.

  • @bowulf Thankyou for the info...I've figured ut the problem...I've been having to much stevia powder...didn't know that the stevia powder had malodextrin...or something like that...it has sugar in it...thanks again...

  • You are very welcome. That is one of the things people have to learn all the many names of sugar...

  • thank you so much .. = )

  • i have a question can we chew gum , like trident ?

  • Yes, but it's counted against your daily sweetener for the day. The same cautions are for the sweetener in it as well. There are good ones and bad ones - like aspartame..

  • k cool i appreciate the help. Thanks for all the quick responses. I had some buddies that were paranoid that smoking would slow their diet. We're going by the book and your videos. In a few weeks ill let u know how were doing :)

  • Allright i appreciate it very much :) One other thing if its not too much to ask i have friends who want to join me on the diet but they smoke or dip does that matter?

  • No - the health risks they face will be the same on or off the diet, and they will likely lessen a few of the risks by being on the diet.

  • I got the book today, can you eat Pork Rinds during the induction phase and if so is there a limite because they have zero carbs?

  • Yep, pork rinds without the flavoring are an Induction treat. With flavoring, you have to check the ingredients for any starches or sugars. As for a limit, the only limit is your hunger. Don't eat when you aren't hungry, but other than that - just pork rinds and salt are a eat "liberally" item.

  • Hi Bowulf!

Congrats on the weight loss. You look awesome and thanks for the videos...

One question for you....I recently bought alot of Tilapia but I see it is not in the book, do you think I can eat that in Phase 1?

  • Any fish should be fine. There are cautions against some shellfish (like Lobster), which can be higher carb, but all fish should be fine to eat liberally on Induction.

  • I am going to start this diet really soon, so your videos will be a Godsend for me. Thanks for the great and informative videos! Congrats on your success!

  • I am glad I could help. Best of luck and make sure you read the book.

  • is vegtable oil and canola oil ok 4 induction

  • Yes they are allowed, but I personally think there are better oils than canola (formerly called Rapeseed oil an Industrial lubricant). I prefer oils like Coconut, Peanut, Olive, or even Corn over it.

  • oh i no i could be a princess now listen u dumb fuk i just had twins needed to lose 5 measly pounds i dont need ta even go on a diet unlike u u fat lazy slobs WOW NOT TWO TO THREE CUPS OF VEG what is that going to do ever HEARD OF 5 PORTIONS OF FRUIT OR VEG A DAY now stop replyin ur doin ma head in

  • Wow with twins and you talk like that. I hope your children have great grammar teachers.

Just to clear up the confusion a serving is a half cup, so you are getting 6 servings each day. So one enjoy your life and your twins, and welcome to my block list. I hope you never have to regret your words to others.

  • My friend, the romance novelist Jessica Trapp said something hilarious a few weeks ago about people like this. She said, "Be careful whose toes you step on today, for they may belong to the ass you must kiss tomorrow." Ha!! With that I bid you adieu, mate. :)

  • Fat, lazy slobs? We're not so grouchy like you. All that sugar you're eating is making you crazy. Er. CraziER. I really feel sorry for your twins. Let me let you in on a little something about twins: if they are close, as my brother and I are, they can speak without words. Don't be surprised when they talk about what a psycho their crazy mother is with that kickass twin telepathy thing! You are such a pathetic loser. I will give you a free clue, since you can't buy one: NOBODY CARES.

  • y dont you go fuk your self with that carrot maa yadi

  • -more insulting removed-

Please do yourself and your parents / ancestors a favor, and make them proud with your mouth and speech instead of shaming them.

  • I'm a twin. Thank God my mum is functional. And a lady.

  • i have come off this diet as it a load of crap i couldnt eat all that meat oil butter eggs u peope are animals to do this i had a constant migraine n chest pain i am gana ta just eat healthy im more a fruit n veg gal and the guy is so annoyin u dont have to listen to him buy the book or dont bother doin it

  • >> the guy is so annoyin u dont have to listen to him buy the book or dont bother doin it

Well I could make snide comments too, but just wanted to wish you the best with fruit and veg diet. Have a nice life...

  • Wow, three days on it and you're a real expert. If you read anything at all about low carbing instead of insulting people trying to enlighten others, you'd understand that you're SUPPOSED to feel like shit the first few days, idiot - detoxing sugar and empty carbs and crap like that from your system. If you really knew what you were doing, you'd have done it by now. Like anyone's really going to NOT do this because YOU say so. Pull the king sized carrot out yer arse.

  • I have given up trying to educate everyone, and some people just won't or can't listen to reason or facts backed up with numerous studies. Thanks for speaking the truth...

  • No, thank YOU for doing something great like sharing something wonderful you've learned with others. That is honourable, mate. I have no problem with a difference of opinion. I have a problem with how rude she is to you, when what you're speaking is a great service to us all. But then, there are still people who are angry that most of us don't believe the earth is flat. BTW, I tried your Mock Danish last night -- YUMMMM!! I feel like a million bucks on this SANE way of life. Whatta concept!

  • You don't live on protein and fats exclusively, you know. Ever heard of nonstarchy vegetables? Duh. You had a constant migraine because you ARE a constant migraine with your rudeness and insults. Go eat a cake so you can continue to grace us all with your charming personality. It might occur to you you're so bloody angry BECAUSE you need to detox all that crap out of your system. It takes a hell of a lot longer than three days, too BTW. Read. Educate yourself, Princess Charming.

  • BTW, nitwit, this guy is a veteran. He's unselfish enough to have fought for YOUR freedom. What the hell have you done? Just thought you should know you owe the veterans of America a hell of a lot more respect, asswipe.

  • hi i have just started the induction day 2 i am eatin 2/3 eggs every mornin fried in butter with a cup of mushrooms and 2 tblespns of full fat cheese for lunch chicken with a cup of broccoli with olive oil and for tea steak with 1 cup of mushrooms fried in butter i have the 8 glasses of water and all the vitamins am i doin this right for a snack if i am hungry 1 to 2 stick of celery

  • hey quick question for you kent i know im aloud sucralose and acesulfame k on atkins but what i was wanting to know is do i have to limit my intake of these sweetners or can i take as much of them as i want im asking this because i have found a diet soda with these sweetners instead of aspartame and i drink quite a lot of it now.

    Thank,

  • The answer is you are allowed 3 daily sweetener servings per day - a serving is defined as any serving of food like a can of soda. Check out my daily sweetener limit video for more information on why there is a limit even if it is zero carb.

  • k i'm gonna get the book tomorow

  • The atkins diet is baced on a high fat and protien diet ,

But it does not recomend that you over consume high fatty products, natural fats are the best to consume as it is digested and does not contain dangerous amounts of processed fats and satirated fat

  • Are you really allowed to 'drink' high fat cream? I could get through cup after cup but surely all that animal fat in the system day after day will just clog up the heart and arteries?

  • You are allowed 1-2 TBS of Heavy Cream. If you choose to drink it or use it as a sauce, that's up to you.

As for clogging up your arteries and your heart, I would suggest you watch my cholesterol and heart video. The link between animal fat and cholesterol is broken by removing the real culprit (overabundance of carbohydrates). My cholesterol (Total and LDL both) dropped by almost 50 points while my HDL (good) went up.

  • what chocolate is low carb?

  • Dark Chocolate - darker the better (67% or higher), and cocoa powder.

  • I make a gorgeous espresso sized cocoa on cold nights with that 2 oz. of cream plus some dark cocoa, vanilla, and stevia. A tiny bit of amazing quality beats substandard quantity every single time. :)

  • if you lose weight on this diet, and you allow yourself to eat carbs one day. how quickly would you regain weight? is it safe to treat yourself once in a while?

  • Part of the diet is figuring out how many carbs you can eat per day and still stay the same weight on the maintenance phase. People who go through all the phases as opposed to simply doing Induction and then cheating once in awhile are typically the most successful.

  • thanks!
