  • She's got issues.

  • Wow, what a bitch.

  • I'm a bit iffy. Most of the time, I try not to film people, but if they are obviously showing off or wearing flashy costumes, they are obviously trying to get noticed, and so I take pictures of some of them. But I generally try to avoid pictures of people. However, if I want to take pics of something and people are in the way, sometimes they do show up in the picture. As far as Amtrak policy goes, see the top comment by JLJ061.

  • As far as I know if you are a paying passenger, youhave the right to video and film in a car or at at station platform. And for zf4hp24 you are the boob and an old saggy one too, thats a bunch of bull. I would have kept filming and if would have ever ended up in court, I would have defenetly brought in that video. It's just like some freight crews. Some of them will accuse of all railfans being suspisious. To me if you can't tell the difference you should not be calling anything in.

  • Man I'm sorry you had to go through that. I took photos and recorded video on Amtrak. Lounge Car, my roomette, dining car, etc. This lady (crew worker) was clearly in the wrong. It was not like you were in customer's business nor hers. You had every right to shoot footage. One customer complained about me in the lounge car and the attendant told him I could record in the lounge car. I wasn't recording the customer or was in his business so the attendant didn't bother me and I just kept recording

  • Read your contract for carriage. She can tell you not to film. In fact, you're pretty rude to assume folks in that car wanted you to film them. Ever walk into a restaurant and start filming other patrons? Ever try to film the cabin of an aircraft in flight?

So, in short, you're a boob.

Amtrak's cars are not "public" spaces. They're vehicles where you have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and to be left alone by other passengers. The staff was doing the job I expected of them.

  • The ride was great too. i had too many characters on the other comment

  • hmmm... Ive ridden the Pacific Surfliner a few times and they had some great customer service. the conducter even let me wear a conducters hat for a picture with him and me. They also were very imformative. i asked the conductor why they had east coast cars (amfleet) on the route and he said that he doesn't know but had me talk to other conductor and he said the trains are easier to manage here. i think thats what he said. but in my overall amtrak experience, the customer service was great

  • lol Sure i can

  • "I replied that was nonsense they have no such right in a public railway car"

I hate to break it to you, but as paying passengers they do have a right to their privacy. I bet if you asked the people in that car, instead of barging in with your camera already running, 80% of them would have asked you no to film them while they were eating.

  • Amtrak(dot)com says that you are allowed to take pictures and videos onboard trains as long as it doesn't interfere with the train or crew and I don't think you're doing something like that.

  • If you started filming me without permission I would tell you in no nonsense Anglo-Saxon what to do. Seems to me the attendant was quite right and you are an insensitive moron. Then to complain to the company sheesh, just who do you think you are ?

  • This Amtrak photo policy is completely obscure. Could you be approached by anyone at station, just because you're filming a train? Most likely not. Unless if its at a big terminal. But what about stations that aren't owned by Amtrak? I'm totally against this policy, because there's no good reason for it. I've been to passenger stations lots of times, and we rarely get stopped. Employees don't own stations, railroads do.

  • Policy on Amtrak's website specifically says "Ticketed passengers on board trains may take photos or video record on a train when it does not interfere with passengers or crew and in accordance with any directions given by Amtrak onboard train personnel. "

  • I plan on riding the silver meteor to Florida this spring, I will probably take vids out of the windows and around my bedroom. I hope they try that on me.

  • And Amtrak's photo policy is absurd.

  • She could have asked in a nicer manner and more discretely. You are a paying customer. I hope you reported this. She disturbed you and everyone in the dining car.

  • I did indeed report this to Amtrak. I received a rather snotty response that I was the one at fault, even though I only took about ten seconds of video that no one, except for this employee, even noticed. When I responded to Amtrak's response that I paid over $700 for their overpriced train, I just received back a patronizing "thank you for your comments and we hope we will see you again on Amtrak." Not likely!!

  • Thats pretty sorry service. Yes, perhaps they have a valid policy not to photograph with other people in view on the trains. But she could have said sir, sorry we dont allow filming. And done that discretely. Its people like us that get punished as a result of terrorizm...yet terrorists still get a free ride through our educational system.

  • You are so right - it is the majority of law abiding people who are punished. This lady should not have done what she did, but if she really did not like the video she could have been nicer about it.

  • @parlourcar I am a huge railfan and railrider. This is insane. Sometimes it seem like these officious Amtrak jerks have completely lost their minds. They have no clue about customer service. Would politely pulling you aside and saying "you know, some customers feel awkward about being filmed. If you come back later, you can film to your heart's content." If this was a restaurant, it would be out of business in a week. Just complete stupidity by a real moron.

  • Haha Good for you for posting that! I've had the same experience on Amtrak. What a bunt!

  • What a fuckin bitch. Just an old hag with a chip on her shoulder..she is probly gonna die alone unlaid and miserable...atleast I hope she does..

  • Wow! That woman sounds like an asshole!

  • I once accidentally farted in the face of a young pretty stewardess (if you are out there I want you to know that I'm sorry). She just smiled at me as if to say "I guess that is what old guys do". Contrast this person with the shrew on the train.

  • I think there is somekind of rule about taking pictures of fellow travelers on the trains and in stations without permission, but this woman obviously gets off on having authority over somebody. Innocent videographer gets to made to feel like 2 cents.

  • Yes, I think so too. Though she could have waited until she got to the gentleman to speak with him in a respectful tone instead of yelling down the isle like some crazy alien from outside of civil society.

  • No one cares gabe, go post ur shit somewhere else!

  • Sometimes I wonder why these types of employees are hired in the first place.

  • If you think they get pissed of taking a video on a train, trying taking it on a plane, I thought they were gonna throw me out at 30,000 feet

  • Hm, I don't know why they would.

    Post 911 era shit?

  • The good thing about planes is that u cant get off until u get to where u wanted to go. XDXD

  • LOL. No i'm saying - But what did she say after that?

  • After she screeched at me not to film in the dining car I repled "sure I can." She says "NO" and that is when I stopped filming. I regret I did not keep it on to record her saying that it is against the law to film in a dining car as the passengers have an expectation to privacy. I replied that was nonsense they have no such right in a public railway car. She then said that is what Amtrak told her, and I replied that too was nonsense you are simply making this up.

  • Wow, that is not right. That is not so funny at all and that is something that I won't tolerate. That backs up another reason why I shouldn't ride the Coast Starlight anymore. Not only they have bad reputation for being so late, but now this!! I'm riding Amtrak Cascades from here on out because those people on board are very friendly and never being a pain in the butt. I ride it every year and never get yelled at. This video proves that this train should get a 1/10 for lousy reputation.

  • lol, she looks like sarah palin ;)

  • haha i thought the same thing

  • Some guy on NEC was thrown off a train for taking pictures. When ever I do it, no one has a problem. This is bull! U should have kept recording and said it was off.

  • and not to be sexist, but its only the women that ive seen in videos and news articles that seem to have an issue with photos.

  • yup. I know a guy whos in charge f dining cars who works the stalight, he let me film out the windows and everything.

lol, did you just simply say "very good"

    HAHAH! redheads these days...

  • he said, "sure i can"

  • lol shit thats funny!

  • i know, i wish we could have heard her blow her lid, if she did any more than she did.

  • I can see it now,

"Sir, you are NOT allowed to take pictures aboard the train"

    "Sure I can"

"Why you little.....you get out of here right now and go back to your sleeper! Until you learn not to bring a camera in MY diner, you are NOT allowed in here!"

    "whatever bitch"

-----guy gets kicked off the train for harassment-----

  • haha. lol. every one in there turned their heads. i would have kept recording.

  • wow....I would show that to AMTRAK....There is NO LAW saying you can't video in a train!!!
