  • The pre-Webb GI Bill covers 20% of the cost of college. McCain would increase that to 40% for veterans serving more than 12 years. McCain's bill is not a joke; it is an insult.

Uncle Sam paid for 100% of McCain's education. I'm not happy Obama won, but I am ecstatic McCain lost.

  • For you ignorant asshole civilians out there -- just because it's got "Veteran" or "G.I." in the title doesn't mean it isn't a ridiculous piece of shit legislation.

McCain votes for the RIGHT veteran bills -- which is why you'll never see an Obama sticker at a VA hospital or Military base.

Go drive on Quantico MCB -- 95% McCain-Palin.

You civilian assholes should really stick to something you know something about.

  • This sounds like an argument based on authority rather than reason. What bills were the "right" bills? Why were they right? Why were all of the bills mentioned by grazon below wrong? You can't expect people to agree with you just based on authority. Btw, aren't the majority of people in the military conservative before going in? Isn't it a conservative atmosphere (just as universities are liberal)? Honest question...I have heard this but I am not sure.

  • "if mccain was such a hero, how come he never made admiral? that is an almost automatic when they return from combat"

Even for some liberal Obama twat, this is just too stupid to even comment upon.

Is she fucking nuts, or just knows ZIP about the military, so she just makes it all up?

    Like Obama & Biden.

People this stupid shouldn't even be allowed to vote.

Though frankly, why anyone who couldn't be bothered to serve in uniform gets the same vote as a veteran ... beats me.

  • Are you in favor of compulsory military duty?

  • 5/2008: McCain voted AGAINST the Webb GI Bill.

9/2007: McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq.

5/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $20 Million to VA for health care facilities.

4/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $430,000,000 to VA for Medical Services.

3/2006: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical services $1.5 billion in FY2007.

Does that REALLY sound like he cares?

  • john mccain is a republican, he wants the best for that wealthy few who have more houses than they can count.

  • I feel sorry for you, i cant believe you people are falling for this "Country First Bullshit", in congress McCain did very little for veterans.

  • If the election is over it is over for McSame and Caribou Barbie.

Maybe you're to stupid to read a graph but they all show Obama winning.

  • geez your a conspiracy nutcase

  • Just so you know:

McCain was investigated in the deaths of more than 130 troops after hot dogging and a "wet" start with his jet. He was allegedly shot down less than two weeks later so the investigation was dropped.

McCain was immediately removed from the Forestall Aircraft Carrier because the crew threatened to kill him for the 130 plus deaths.

McCain crashed two jets and blew up at least two jets. The one he was in that was allegedly shot down was the fifth one destroyed while in his care.

  • if mccain was such a hero, how come he never made admiral? that is an almost automatic when they return from combat; THIS is why he wants to be potus, since he couldn't make admiral he wants to command the troops one way or another.

WAKE UP!!! mccain is AGAINST vets. AGAINST women. FOR lobbyists and his own pockets and ego!!!

  • FACTS:

3/2004: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical care by $1.8 billion.

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE an amendment for $322,000,000 for safety equipment for USforces. "Table"= vote never hits floor.

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE a vote for $1 Billion for National Guard and Reserve Equipment in Iraq dueto:shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, & tactical vests.

So this is guy to be over our military huh? He is a SELLOUT to our veterans/troops of which I am one.

  • Any way you cut it, McCain is better that Osama.

  • CastorT69 you lack formal education. I bet you have a G.E.D. Ask yourself this question? Who is really selling out the troops? McBush or Obama? McBush did not support the new G.I. bill because he was a afraid of this nonsense retention. If anything the new bill will bring more people in the military. It fails to aid those who did serve to the fullest extent.

  • Are you stupid CastorT64?

  • How much is George Soros paying you VoteVets morons to sell out the troops? Hmmmmm?

  • Let's see, this is the same Democratic Congress that voted to cut off funding to the troops immediately after it took office.

Now, in an election year, this same Democratic Congress decides that it "loves the troops" after all.

Give me a break! This Congress is a joke and so is VoteVets.

  • Castor69. You are a joke. So you are against the new G.I. Bill, right?

  • Listen McCain supports the troops let me tell you whodoesnt support the troops, Your fellow democrats if they would stop trying to pull us out our president can focus on the war Insurgents are attacking so hard right now because they know we are weak b/c our people are against the president.

  • McCain & W Bush start wars. What happens next, who cares!

  • Please everyone right now - don't contact McCain, contact the President and your Senators and COngressman and let them know these men deserve the same benefits as the WW II veterans - THese men need more than us waving the flag for them and a few bumper stickers - they have eanred the American dream. It is easy to do - just google US Senators or US congress and select your state, they all have pa way to eamil them - we have to start a movement

  • I Joined For Patriotism & a Job.(11B) Not for collage money. After I got out, I Relized,( THAT WAS DUMB).

Army offered it to me Twice, I Declined.

When I Joined the Coast Guard, I Asked for Collage Money/G.I.Bill.// C.G. Said NO.//

Troops, if They offer it, Please Take It!

OUR TROOPS DESERVE THE BEST! Esp. COMBAT TROOPS!// remf's, Not So Much.

  • Interesting!

  • It's a crying shame that of all American citizens, armed forces veterans, particularly those who have fought in wars and conflicts overseas,RISK THEIR LIVES and endure the brutality of combat to protect this great nation, are suddenly treated like second class citizens. These men and women deserve the utmost respect and assistance from the President on down!! Goes to show you what a shithead administration we've had in the past 8 years! MAN, WE NEED A RADICAL CHANGE TO THE Nth DEGREE!!!

  • ursa41: i could not agree with you more.

i do think mccain might be the man.

after reading the "hanoi hilton" many years ago, this man showed unbelievable courage and integrity, never using his status for any favourable treatment.

  • I admire, respect McCain but like Bush, was born priviledged and doesn't understand many (or most) of our troops joined because of limited options. Most soldiers are very underpaid and they come home to no jobs, without an education. McCain opposes giving them the same GI Bill benefits the WW II generation recieved. Most Americansare where we are today because our fathers and grandfathers used the GI BIll to get an education - It gave us the middle class. Now we are losing the Middle class.

  • As a "priveleged" person myself: I will be the first to admit that I don't always see things as clearly as I should.

I have tremendous respect for the fighting men and women of our country: and I believe they deserve any and all benefits received by the WWII vets.

Thanks for clearing things up a bit.

Still, I don't want to see Obama or Clinton in the Oval Office.

    BLAH!

  • THen let McCain know how you feel on the GI BIll issue - I may be wrong but it seems that McCain has been moving more to the estreme right to please the real conservatives, this is an issue I think everyone would and should agree on. Think the main reason some Republicans are against it is the costs but if anything is worth paying more taxes for it is this.

  • The dems said it would be funded by people that make over a 500 thousand a year. I do not see why they are still complaining about the funding. Are they that greedy? John Stewart covers the whole 16 percent issue that McCain tried to spin. I guess the problem for the blue dogs and republicans is either they need poor to fight their wars or they don't believe in giving money to good causes, because it is a form of socialism.

  • Glad they are going to just cut out the unemployment extension to appease the blue dogs and republicans to try and pass the gi bill. Wouldn't make sense to help Americans out that need it in this bad economy. It would seem that the gibill and unemployment extension would stimulate the economy a lot more than a 600-dollar appeasement donation.

    I am done voting republican.

  • go ahead and minus my comments.

if the boards are not for healthy debate than they are pointless crap, anyway.

i really don't care what your opinion is: i would defend your right to have it

    nonetheless.

  • ohh yeah because he doesnt respect the troops service ridiulus. There is something so gut less about this ad

  • Maybe it is gutless. But it begs the question as to what Bush, McCain and Co. have meant over the last few years with "support the troops".

  • Rockinraffi, thanks for the video! I am going to share it with my contacts!

  • Yes, and then they play the "I am one of you normal guys, folks"! Oh, I forgot, with a little difference: lots of money and huge privileges!

  • I think the best choice is Hillary or who knows, I know USA has a huge responsibility with troops in Iraq and all over the world but Obama reminds me the speech of Chavez when he was trying to be president of my country in 99... I don't trust him like I didn't trust Chavez at that moment... I hope to be wrong with Obama... The smallest good deed is bigger than the greatest intention.

  • Al Quada is attacking us on our soil and they are attacking us economically! Got THAT!

  • You people better wake up and realize that thae USA is under an economic terror attack, something Bush idiot wont tell you!

  • I suppose McCain will fork over billions to support the growing mass of disabled veterans from the war he wants to continue. America cant afford to spend more, we are BROKE, support our current vets and stop adding dead bodies and disabled brave soldiers in a war for oil! McCain will kill the american way!

  • I will laugh so hard when gas goes for 10 dollars a gallon you Bush loving mother fuckers

  • fuck you BUsh lovers! You know we are being economically attacked but you are too pussified to admit it huh? You Bush pussies!

  • I don't disagree that this country has got some SEVERE economic/monetary issues. A lot of which has been exasperated by Bush. If you're all excited about Hilldog and Obama then you too are a pussy, just as big of one as Bush's people.

  • We are in era where economic terrorism is happening with gas as high as it is! I think there needs to be an investigation and heads need to roll!

  • senateeeerrrrr mcain: we wespect your swervice... please respwect ours...

haha sorry but that was kinda funny...

    respwect

    lol

  • McCain doesn't give a shit about you or the American people, only the corporate criminals who back him up.

This McCain is totally worse than Bush. It looks like his left side of his face is going to explode because of all the bullshit building up inside....

  • Now we have a video run by anti-American, stateside ,brigrats...If these 'shitbirds' were not in the brig...they would be in Canada...Sure don't want to be in front of me in combat.

    Semper-Fi

    You 'phony' jerks.

  • Why do you hate your fellow Americans so much?

  • Yes your right noone would have ever been in front of you in combat, because You were never there. What a moron must have be reserves with Bush in texas

Semper FI LOL do you know what that means?

  • Ron Paul in 08! yeah, whoohoo! McCain is a peice of shit tool of the FED, someone should put his lame ass down! yay.

  • McCain is a nut job. Support Ron Paul, because he supports vets 100%.

  • They're all just nothing but a bunch of smellies...

  • Ron Paul is the answer

  • ...to nothing.

  • "Ron Paul is the answer"

What was the question, "Who supports repealing the 14th Amendment?"

  • what a load of crap.

  • What i want to know is what he is going to do to help the people of the Ms,gulf coast. Katrina took that part of Ms off the map. There people still down there suffering.

  • I wonder how Galveston completely rebuilt itself from scratch including an overbuilt seawall. All without a single dime of federal assistance.

  • I agree that we should be helping Katrina and Americans before the rest of the world though.

  • If you asked John McAss for straight talk. You can forget it buddy! You will get a straighter answer talking to the wall!

  • Will all you Retards go away and pick your noses somewhere else where people care?

This is about supporting our Veterans who gave 100%. not POLITICS.

  • I don't understand. When I was active duty, I got 100% tuition assistance and I'm putting myself through a four year college now on the G.I. Bill right now. I totally respect my fellow vets, but some are just whiny.

  • hecker1982: "I don't understand."

    Well said. Couldn't agree more.

    Yours truly,

    a veteran

  • Well, maybe you didn't understand the context of how I was using that phrase. You see, I was saying that I didn't understand the point of politicizing this issue. Now, maybe you should quit being so emotional about it and look at the situation from a logical perspective.

Plus, I am an Iraq vet, so that is sad if you were just mocking me. I thought you'd have a bit more class.

  • It is sad we veterans have to politicize it, but how else do we get around the rethuglicans who are blocking better veterans benefits? Remember their Walter Reed? Only by politicizing got results. They did NOTHING till then.

There is another word I like for "politicizing." It's called "democracy." It happens through something called "voting." What party tried to limit voting in NH in 2002 by jamming Dems' GOTV phones? How many felons went to jail as a result? Do NOT vote for these thugs ever!

  • No worries, armadilloze is a prick. He also is the most hyper-partisan person on youtube. He lacks legitimate arguments, hence he resorts to saying "rethugs, and rethuglicans." He also claims to be a vet. Politicizing didn't fix WRH, publicizing did. He's an asshat who plays with squirrels and constantly swerves out of his lane.

  • Fuck you, loser. You can't argue the facts, so you go with one of the biggest personal attacks I've seen on YouTube.

There it is, folks, the signature argument of the defeated. He disrespects a veteran, just like most radical conservatives.

BTW, conservatives didn't fix WRH, progressives did.

Remember bigshitter42 when you think "quitter" in a debate. He's got nothing so he uses the "your mother wears tennis shoes" level of debate. Give him a big hand for showing his uninformed ass.

  • Well, I guess that is why we won't be labeled as the greatest generation ever. If you served and you cannot support your buds, lets just say I guess your foxhole was pretty lonely.

  • Right, so we can make Veterans another dependant group on gov't. Instead of welfare moms it welfare vets. I came back from Iraq in 1990 and went to school on the GI Bill. My message to these guys, Shut up, Quit whining, get a job and go to school. Political parties only care about "troops" when it suits their purposes. Grow up!

  • No, We have a message for you.. You sir, didnt do a whole hell of alot when you sat in kuwait in 1990,... Except maybe try to sham out of PT or perhaps wonder what was for lunch at the nice chow hall you enjoyed. So until youve actually been in combat, how about YOU shut the fuck up!

  • How the fuck do you know what I did? You know I haven't been in combat? Wow you're psychic! Can I have tomorrow's lotto numbers. You're some pimpled faced college kid flunking out but commenting on every YouTube post. You don't know shit about the military. SO WHY DON'T YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP! AND WHEN YOU POST GIVE ME ADDRESS I'D LIKE YOU TO TELL ME TO MY FACE INSTEAD OF HIDING BEHIND A COMPUTER. PUSSY!

  • I have to laugh. im not up for debating what you did or didnt do. i know that i went to afghanistan and iraq twice during my 8 years in the 101st as an 11B. I dont need to get into the details for a chickenhawk. You never crossed the border. but the guys that did enjoyed the chow you sent to them down range. I bet it sucks when its all said and done and people are coming back with bronze stars, CIBs and youve got a AAM in your hand. take your service for what it is, and dont make shit up!

  • hiding behind a computer... LMFAO!!!! no, not really, at all. if you werent so stupid you might connect it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you make me laugh man.

  • Laugh all you want. I still didn't get your address dude. I want you to show me your DD214 and prove what you said. I'm waiting but I expect the same evasive bullshit I got for the last 2 posts. I think your full of shit.

  • Um? I dont think im the one giving any evasive bullshit here. I am one of the guys on this commercial. My address is 507 haywood ct clarkesville TN 37042. why dont you swing by sometime and we can go over my 214 together just make sure to bring yours along as well tough guy.. i dont like to send my 214 around the web. (theres alot of guys like you masquerading as real soldiers.)with fake 214s. no BS here im looking forward to laying eyes on your 214 so i can expose your phony ass! see u soon??

  • Thank you for standing up to McCain and Bush - and asking for what you deserve. I also hold accountable Bush for sending all our troops over there - especially since we now know it was based on lies and deceit.

  • Mastiff what exactly was your MOS, and what unit were you in? I'd be really surprised if a veteran was accusing someone with the screen-name 'rakkasan,' of being a pogue/bullshitter. Calling yourself a Rakkasan isn't something civilians can usually come up with, so that alone is enough credentials for me. And I can't think of a single vet who would even f'ing hint at it being easy in the civilian world after being active. Sounds to me like you're a NINJA or a civilian dreamer.

  • Because he uses a name that's enought for you. Wow are you gulible. Thats why you beleive the NEW GI bill will "stregthen" the middle class. I used my GI Bill and it was fine, no nmeed to make it larger. Sounds like your just as asshole no pre-quals for that. BTW Navy not Army.

  • Hey, Mastiff111. College worked wonders for your English skills I see. 'Gulible,' as opposed to 'gullible,''beleive,' not 'believe,' and your barbed statement that I am, "just as asshole no pre-quals for that." Amazing. Tell me my little Navy cupcake, where did you go to earn a degree on $1100 per month? Did you take out a pile of loans, or live with your parents? Smash-up job on sounding off like a true REMF, cupcake. I bet your Naval operations in the gulf were some historic ops.

  • Sorry Mastiff, only fighting men know what a NINJA is. Its a Non Infantry Non Jumping Asshole

Everyone else, support the bill. It will bring better recruits in as an incentive, and it will strengthen the economy and middle class when vets are able to get stronger jobs upon their return.

  • So your English is just as good? "Everyone else, support the bill." That would be supports Einstein. Where did I go on $1,100 a month? Junior College and then State School in NY. I may be a cupcake but your a phony. You are probably a 4F or 1Y. Oh wait I see that you complain here that we need to support Vets but I'm a "cupcake" for serving in the Navy. Hmmmm.... sounds like a landloving pussy to me but then again your probably in your parents basement beating off. Use more vaseline. :)

  • Wow! You are still at it huh? what a fucking boob you are!!! First you make a dumbass comment(which by the way is a lie)"I came back from Iraq in 1990 and went to school on the GI Bill. My message to these guys, Shut up, Quit whining, get a job and go to school." then you bag yourself in that by talking shit to real warriors? ending with a "I was in the navy" well, if you were in the navy in 1990, you werent in iraq. therefore we dont need your chickenhawk opinion. but thanks

  • A "real" warrior? wow you are warped. THERE IS NO FEAR IN THIS DOJO! Sweep the leg, Johnny! Take it easy Rambo don't get a cut shuffling paper.

  • With all due respect to US army vets, how can you expect any party to treat you decently when they use you for their BS wars that attract all the hate from the population you're supposed to defend?

  • GOP = Don't give a shit about our troops or everyday Americans . !!!!!

  • What is the "democrat party?"

As a veteran, I support the Democratic Party. McSame has shown what he thinks of us, as has all of BushCult. They had eight years and let us down. Watch C-SPAN sometime and see the heartbreaking testimony of returning Iraq and Afghanistan troops. If you want to continue that shame, vote for McSame. If not, join us vets.

  • If I'm a republican I belong to the republican party. If I'm a democrat I belong to the democrat party. This election has shown us that the democratic process is not that important to the democrats. McCain sucks, but tell me how your democrats are not the same? I doubt that you can do that. Their differences are on details of the same overall bs policies. If you want to support the illusion of change then vote for any of the majors.

  • There is no such thing as a "democrat party."

Democrats, who belong to the Democratic Party founded in 1792 by Thomas Jefferson, are quite different. We support the 4th Amendment, for instance. If you really don't know the differences, buy a newspaper or check out their platforms, perhaps.

  • First of all Jefferson was part of the Democratic-Republican Party. To argue that he was in favor of anything resembling the modern democratic party is asinine. Equally retarded is republicans claiming Abraham Lincoln. But you don't support the 1st, 2nd, 9th, nor 10th. At least your politicians don't. I'm not arguing that republicans are any better, but you are the one who should do some reading. The only solid argument you have was me saying democrat party. Which is pretty silly for us.

  • Wrong, I support ALL the amendments. Unlike ONE candidate, I do not want to repeal the 15th (or any) Amendment because I am pro-freedom.

BTW, the Democratic Party shortened its name in 1844. Still the same party Jefferson founded. Look it up. Sheesh. We adhere very strictly to Jefferson. Listen to Thom Hartmann sometime. He invokes Jefferson several time per program and has written at least one book on him.

You are very misguided. Where do you get your information from? Hannity? Limpballs?

  • Dude...stop. Jefferson would consider himself libertarian or paleo-conservative in today's world if not an independent. And while you may support all the amendments, your party does not(and for Christ's sake I'm not taking up for the republicans here). Your politicians with a few exceptions view the 2nd, and 9th with total contempt. I'm very anti-Iraq, why would I be listening to Hannity or Limbaugh?

  • I know of no pending legislation calling for the repeal of any amendment by Dems. But ONE rethug does want to repeal at least the 14th and 15th. Rethugs additionally have proposals for at least 7 amendments. Guess my Jefferson et al. got America wrong. How many amendments do you propose or want to repeal? Is America that bad?

  • I only want to repeal one. The 16th. The others I'd like to restore value to. I'm not talking about adding new or repealing amendments, I'm talking about ignoring or understating the importance of said amendments. Give me a reading list that will enlighten me as to how the modern day democrats are "strictly adhering to Jefferson." Do it.

  • Your party is no longer liberal. The modern democratic party is progressive. Hell Clinton even said she wasn't liberal but a progressive. Surely you know what progressive means and how it is diametrically opposed to the very idea of individual liberty.

  • I'd say I'm progressive and proud of it.

Individual liberty is eating, drinking, and sitting where YOU DAMN please. At one time, 40+ states banned interracial marriage. Do you need your state telling you who you can marry, or can you make that decision YOURSELF? If yes, you're a progressive.

Individual liberty is a father safely taking his son to the same stream he fished in as a child, without some piggy chemical deciding that for him. I can do this all night.

  • Private property rights can protect the environment pretty well. The Commonwealth of Virginia cleaned up it's waters without the EPA, I too can go on and on. I think the state shouldn't be involved in marriage at all. It didn't used to be, only once we were made subjects and the income tax was created. Progressive is George Bush spending tax dollars on church programs, it's forcing your beliefs on the whole of the people. Why not go hands off and leave us alone?

  • Radicals always think property rights trump human rights. If the original settlers had caved in to your kind of wimpy thinking, we'd all be speaking English today.

This is America. Having property does not give you the right to deny others their human rights. Nor does it give you special rights, such as taking away other people's right to breathe. I think you'd be happier in China, where manufacturers blot out the sun with their filth. Some dream of the same here - again.

    Give up.

  • Time to step away from pedantic podium & pull out your Funk & Wagnalls, bucko.

"Democrat" is a noun; "Democratic" is an adjective.

Using a noun as a modifier of another noun is not grammatically correct; so, therefore, it's the "Democratic Party" - NOT the "Democrat Party".

Republicans: so wrong, so many times, for so very long on so many issues. What reasonable, responsible voter would want 4 more years of that?!

  • Oh my aren't you just a little asshat. Yes you certainly are, if you'd have read my previous post you'd know that I'd conceded that. But you didn't. Or if you did, you got all bitchy because you know Jefferson would have disowned you freedom hating party. I'm sure he'd have felt the same about the republican party. Lincoln was tyrannical and therefor would have liked GWB. What reasonable, responsible voter would vote for a candidate simply because they aren't republican? An asshat would.

  • "Using a noun as a modifier of another noun is not grammatically correct; so, therefore, it's the "Democratic Party" - NOT the 'Democrat Party'."

Give him a break, English is probably not his first language. But this here's Murika. I thank if yew gonna stay here, yew should lurn to speak Murikan. ;)

  • That's actually quite funny. You should respond to something that I haven't conceded three posts ago. Do you have an actual argument, or is it your game to belittle me as hardly literate? You still claiming Jefferson? Still supporting the 4th Amendment while chipping away at the 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 10th? Of course you are.

  • The 9th Amendment is one is the most hated by wingers, right after the 4th, 14th, and 15th, that is. As to the 2nd, look up the Military Commissions Act et al. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country! Never were we more in danger of a coup. I am ready for the traitors.

Don't believe me, just look up who founded the Democratic Party. Very easy. Or ask your teacher.

The only person belittling you is YOU by your comments.

  • What makes you think I'm a supporter of the Patriot Act/MCA? You keep going back the the founding of the democratic party. What you fail to realize, and it's blatantly obvious, is that it is NOT the same damn party. And you're wrong, the 9th is hated by progressives on both sides of the isle. It's also probably the most commonly disobeyed amendment. Progressives are the scum of the earth, it doesn't matter what letter is in front of their name on cspan.

  • "Progressives are the scum of the earth, it doesn't matter what letter is in front of their name on cspan."

OK, so you don't like weekends, the 40 hr week, overtime pay, safe water and food, clean(er) air, safe workplaces, paved roads, voting rights for all, FDIC, FAA, FDA, etc. Why do you live here if all those things are so evil? Try Costa Rica if you want to live in a 3rd world country. A friend of mine did just that. He can't drive when it rains, but hey, what's a little freedom to travel?

  • Theres nothing wrong with unions. I've got no problem with any voluntary associations. If they want to unify for conditions and overtime that is certainly their right. Why can't all of those things be taken care of by local/state government and not some overreaching group of federal bureaucrats. Why can't the airlines be responsible for their own safety? There's tremendous incentive for them to set up an industry standard. FDIC steals money from taxpayers to pay others' losses.

  • "Why can't all of those things be taken care of by local/state government and not some overreaching group of federal bureaucrats."

Because states historically used their power to deny rights, not expand rights. Like banning interracial marriages and dividing people into groups of voters and non-voters based on race. They gave polluters free reign. The states had their chance to do the right thing and failed. Why relive the failed ideas of the past? We, the people, should determine our own fate.

  • I know of no better way for the people to determine their own fate than at the local level. Communities today aren't giving pollution, and racism free reign. And if as I said before the state was not involved in marriage it wouldn't matter. This argument is going nowhere and I feel I've stepped on my dick a bit out of frustration so I'm done.

  • "I know of no better way for the people to determine their own fate than at the local level."

Yeah, like here in Texas where the funeral homes pooled their campaign contributions and got the lege to require a casket even if you were cremated. So they burned up the casket while saying "Sorry, it's a state law" to grieving familis. What a rip-off!

THAT is ONE example of "local level" governance, my favorite, one I'm SURE you'd support since it's "local." I can do this all night.

  • I said I'd stay away, but seeing as how I live in Texas, I did some research. Texas state law only requires a container be provided to hold the remains. This can be a cardboard box or a pouch. There are plenty of stupid laws on the books, why don't you find some real ones?

  • I'm probably older than you. This was from the 1930s, I believe, maybe 1940s. Thanks to the progressive consumer movement and the liberal media, this eventually went away. What did the rich and powerful do for us on this issue? Nothing. They're the ones who gave us the problem in the first place. But if you're concerned about them, just give undertakers a $200 or so tip next time the need arises. They are so mistreated, doncha know.

People power! Don't knuckle under to da man!

  • Better than if that tyrannical law had been passed at the federal level? Of course, back then federal lawmakers had more respect for the constitution and realized it would have meant a constitutional amendment.

Sorry for the earlier disrespect armadilloze, but I still claim TJ.

  • "Better than if that tyrannical law had been passed at the federal level?"

The point was that historically, local politicians are more easily bought. I doubt the casket law could have ever been a federal law. Today it's mostly tax breaks or subsidies bought with campaign contributions, special rights you and I can't get. Google "Westar Tom DeLay" for a typical example. Oh, those rethugs - they earn that moniker every day.

  • You're certainly right about one of the major problems in Washington. However if congress was out of our lives, how would it matter how much money they receive? If they're obeying the constitution they won't be writing bs laws giving big corporations protectionist(for said big corp) tax breaks. I know all about DeLay, and he certainly qualifies for your "thug" moniker. But ever look at Clinton's money? Generally all we've been getting is the illusion of choice.

  • Federal vs. local history: "The [National Bureau of Standards] inspector's righteous anger was well-founded. Around 1910, NBS staff tested more than 30,000 scales across the United States and found that almost 50% were significantly off and not surprisingly in favor of the storekeepers.

"The annual loss at that time to the consumer in butter alone amounted to more than $8 million."

Why didn't your city, county, and state act back then? Why do you want to give your money away to thieves?

  • If it was a problem...why indeed? Onec it was raised as a concern would they have been incapable? In today's world why wouldn't a consumer advocacy group be able to test them? And for that matter, most places I go I see a state seal of approval for weights and measures, not a federal one.

  • "There are plenty of stupid laws on the books"

That's the problem with you conservatives and libertarians. You're really plutocrats - willing to take whatever laws the rich and powerful lobbyists can buy. No balls. Your lobbyist pals fought against your right to see and correct your OWN credit report, ferinstance! Can't you decide issues like that for yourself? If you sit back and wait for them to do you a favor, history shows it's a long wait - as in forever. Grow a pair! Be assertive!

  • I don't think I want a plutocracy, but even if that were the case, I fail to see how in a libertarian society it would matter. I don't know that much about the credit report issue so I won't comment on that. Who lobbied for and against it? Also, since your a fellow Texan, I've gotta ask what you thought of Kinky Friedman.

  • Simple. Equifax, TRW (now Experian), and TransUnion, lobbied against your right to see your own information. Progressive consumer groups, mostly, worked in your interest. Before, an erroneous report could prevent you from buying that new washer, and cost a businessman with a family to support a sale.

Please list what your city, county, and state government did for you and retailers on this issue. This is but one example of how voters took control of their own lives at the federal level.

  • Why do you assume that without the world's largest most costly government we would revert to the third world.? Why do you assume that I'm anti suffrage? Why can't state taxes on fuel and whatever else pay for highways? I've lived approximately half of my life in third world and developing nations. And if your friend can't drive when it rains I suggest he gets a better car. I don't advocate this for the future but the first transcontinental highway was built by the auto industry.

  • "And if your friend can't drive when it rains I suggest he gets a better car."

He has a 4WD SUV, but because Costa Rica has the tax rate you want, they have no infrastructure, again like you want. There is no free lunch. If you want low or no taxes, move to such a place, but don't whine when it rains. If our taxes were like his, our transportation-based economy would collapse and we'd be a 3rd-world country like the basic banana republic you dream of. Leave or quit whining.

  • LOL Maybe you all should think. Is there a democrat majority in congress? I wonder why they don't stop the fucking war? Oh, because they are equally corrupt and afraid of being labeled anti-troops or whatever. Obama and Clinton both are in positions that would allow them to really build anti-war momentum, but when it comes down to it have they done jack shit? No, because they are either in favor of the war, or they wanted to focus on the presidency more than American lives.

  • I cannot believe how this administration is treating our beloved Vets.
