  • I've seen so many singers come to grief trying to sing this song. Its so good to hear it sung so well.

  • Poor Wally. I'm learning it's dangerous to make any kind of negative comment on YT, no matter how objective or kindly meant. I did that about a movie scene and got F----ed all over. In the end, what people like or don't like seems to remain mostly subjective--from the gut, tied to memory, culture, upbringing, etc. So I'm only commenting on things I like from now on! BTW I think the MTC knows how to watch the conductor, which means a lot in choral music.

  • AMAZING!

  • sus maria santisima fuerte sonido

  • Una preciosidad, me ha encantado. Muchas gracias por hacernos este regalo.

  • BEAUTIFUL , BOSKIE , CUDNE ...

  • @Wally773MTG - Some pros I know react to the MTC being put up on a pedestal by many as if they were a professional choir - I wonder if this is why many outright refuse to listen to them. But I know plenty of other well-educated folks in the choral world who appreciate the MTC for what they are - a volunteer group with a mission to uplift with music - and go elsewhere for their more esoteric, historically accurate, technically complex choral satisfaction. No one choir can achieve everything. :-)

  • @Wally773MTG - You make good points in terms of professional singing, e.g. top-notch choirs tend to be smaller and more focused. But again, since MTC isn't a professional group, judging them by the same standards seems like wasted energy, it implies they have the same goals. My husband is a choral professional with a doctorate, and he pointed out that MTC has the potential to touch more lives with music for the reasons you pointed out - they reach a different audience. Not a bad thing.

  • @Wally773MTG - Dr. Tim Sharp, ACDA Executive Director, has repeatedly mentioned in the Choral Journal that he listens to MTC. Monteverdi Choir to MTC is apples to oranges. MTC is a volunteer choir with a specific mission that differs profoundly from a professional choir like the MC. You'd listen to them for different reasons because they accomplish different goals - intentionally so.

  • 5 people can't hear the angel voices.

  • Two questions:

    Do you have a website?

    Do you go on tours?

  • @Kurohimemiya Yes and yes, I believe. MoTab doesn't go very often, but Kings Singers do more frequently, I believe. MoTab's website is somewhere in the doodlydoo of another video from their channel or something. Or you could google it.

  • @JSBaldwin623 Thank you very very much.

  • magnificient brings tears to my eyes.

  • thumbs up if you saw the person picking their nose.

  • Oh hear, the angel voices XD

beautiful!!!!!! the 5 ppl that dislikes must be death!!!!

  • Quite possibly the most powerful thing I've ever heard..... Makes me want to hear a lot more !! Thank you to the Mormons and the Kings !!!

  • GO MORMON CHOIR!

  • Extremely well done--this is a very difficult song to sing!

  • Tremendous

  • Hmmm, I like them more when they sing a capella, just the six of them. The orchestra and the immense choir overwhelm the King's Singers, even when they sing amplified. Though the song is beautiful, but not in this kind of setting.

  • what in the hell happened to mr. bean..

  • @123arsmith He quit!

  • I heard this for the first time last Christmas, and it's good enough to come back for another listen in January!! :) Beautifully arranged, beautifully performed. Bravo, King's Singers!

  • Interesting, I think the tenor from The King's Singers is a bit loud when he doesn't have the solo part. But apart from that, this IS a beautiful performance in my opinion.

  • @fistyke Do you mean the countertenor, the high tenor, or the regular tenor who is singing lead on this song? I think they are all impeccable.

  • @Baritone45 I mean the regular tenor :) who's singing the solo at the beginning. I think he remains a bit louder than the others in the chorus part, but hey, it's forgivable ;)

  • @fistyke Fair enough. They don't seem to use mics often, at least not noticeable individual mics. Perhaps the audio guy should have turned down his mic and the soloist didn't adjust enough.

  • @Baritone45 Although I do love this version and the men in the choir sound fantastic, I was able to hear the KS perform this song with an orchestra last Christmas and the audio was much better. It made for an even more incredible experience with this song. But nothing taking away from this one because it's still amazing.

  • A terrible performance... I couldn't hear much other than orchestra- the tune just got lost, which should never happen in a song such as this! The origional is much better than this arrangement!

  • anyone who likes the morman tabernacle choir doesn't listen to much choral music. kings singers kick ass though.

  • @Wally773MTG -- Wait, aren't you saying that the King's Singers don't listen to much choral music?!?!? Come on! They're good enough and famous enough that they can sing with anyone they want to, and apparently they want to sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. You're entitled to your opinion, but don't be hating on other people's opinions!

  • @olsonreb Kings Singers sang with the MTC because the Morman Tabernacle Choir is a freaking brand name and because they in all probability got payed a shit ton of money. This is akin to "selling out." First of all (I say this as an american), american choirs suck. Second of all the better the ensemble, the fewer vocalists per voice part they will have. The MTC is for people who are not educated, experienced, and/ or interested enough to appreciate groups like The Monteverdi Choir or The Sixteen.

  • @olsonreb I am not hating, simply stating an observation. The people I know who listen to the MTC are not singers (and are therefore not as exposed to choral music). They don't know the difference (not a bad thing). The professional vocalists I know (I know a fair few) laugh at the "Morman Tabernacle Herd." This is why I wouldn't comment on a classical dancer or painter...I am not educated enough in those respective fields to feel comfortable in stating an opinion. It all seems good to me.

  • @Wally773MTG Wally, I am a fairly accomplished amateur singer. I've sung "O, Holy Night" with organ and choir of 15 backing me up. I've sung "I Wonder as I Wander" a capella from the balcony, I've directed my small church choir with instrumental accompaniment. I totally agree that, as a rule of thumb, the larger the choir, the lesser each individual's quality.

HOWEVER, have you listened to the MTC? They sing "The Prayer" on here as one! They are a great choir, not just great in number.

  • @Wally773MTG You don't know how many professional musical director I know buy their tickets to go see them to toronto when they come to canada, They've won grammys and everything, Mack Wilberg is a genius, Just listen, the more people you conduct, the harder it is to sing so perfectly as this choir, is one of the best choirs in all the world, and is not "not singers" people that say that, they are really respected in the musical business, i've never saw someone with a musical degree laugh...

  • @Wally773MTG How many people do you know, sparky? Four or five? Big deal. Who cares about your observation.

  • @dlrunner121 Hahahahahahahaha sparky? You've gotta be from Utah. And no, I only know 2 people.... Also, you obviously care or you wouldn't have responded defensively, fucking idiot.

  • @Wally773MTG Wally? How in the world can you use such prophane language whilst listening to this most GLORIOUS song? Wait,,, don't answer that, love. In future, please be careful. One can respect it if this is who and 'where' you are in life, but I implore you to be mindful of those of us who listen to this song (and the like) as a means of worship to our great and wonderous SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST!

    Thank you, Wally.

    Cheers, mate!

  • I love Chanticleer too! These two groups are definitely my favourites!!

  • @Ibambikate Probably the two greatest male acapella groups of our time. It speaks volumes that both groups are big fans of each other, as well as the Swingle Singers.
