  • U ppl wanna know whats real hip hop? West coast rappers, Das Efx, and Onyx! They all got dissed by this chi-town clown named Common nonsense and he ended up making a song with the Jonas brothers and other current pop stars and that aint hip hop!

  • CHECK OUT MY REMIX TO I USED TO LOVE HER

  • 5:00 - 5:24 real shit for all you mainstream artificial watered down favorite rapper dick riding lames. Hahahaha

  • OKAY SERIOUSLY THIS NEEDS LIKE 12 MILLION VIEWS NOT 71 THOU,

  • love hurts

  • love this video

  • my nigga from my home town chi-tilla ohhh wee

  • AMEN BROTHAS AND SISTAS!!! These people rappin thinking they know Hip-Hop not even knowing what an MC stands for (Masta of ceremonies). I'm tired of midget rappas with tattooes all over, canadians that lived in texas for a little, and DJ's who made two good albums (k-west) being worshipped as if they are the pioneers of Hip-Hop. Now you have wack females like Nicky whatever being praised like she can rap. These peeps don't even rhyme anymore, they force the words to rhyme now. It's sad :*(

  • Nasty Nas.

  • this is rated the best hip hop tune of all time on about.com :)

  • lolz nelly clips in da middle..lol

  • Common should make a 2010 version of this song becaus hip-hop is way more fucked up now than it was when this song came out

  • i agree man. Rap music is fucked up, and these poor fools are fooled by these rappers nowadays. People don't even know what real rap music is, and they careless to hear lyracists like nas and common.

  • damn what a great video

  • Wow, what ever happen to the message of hip hop music ? (Sad)

  • As usual, we let whitey come and tell us how to crush our own shit when they throw the almighty dollar at us, the minority of us clamour around like scavengers while the rest of us spend our time trying to distance ourselves from the fray instead of delving into it to salvage the remains of our dignity. We must acknlwedge the jew involvement in the demise of the substance of hip hop but ultimately blame ourselves for letting it happen.

  • ur a joke. dead urself son.

  • @phylliewilly This man knows the score respect to the fullest!

  • @phylliewilly your gay

  • H.E.R means? Am on this message, sad that it still resonates, more than ever!!!

  • Hip Hop in her Essence was Real

  • dont just blame the west, the jewish record lables got too her too lol

  • oh really! goddamn "the jews' got her! .you clever bastard

  • I agree

  • ''Hiphop use to be a way of expressin, now its only bout how you act and dressin''

We'll have to do it with old shit for now, but this will be forever hot, mainstream dies after 3 plays on the radio.

  • nas isnt in the song ahhaa

  • Damn, one of the best hip hop tracks ever.

Btw, check out tracks off of the upcoming mixtape!

    Upcoming MC! Click my channel!!

    Appreciate it!

  • ............

  • NW THIS IS TRUE HIPHOP....

  • amen

  • No amen it was at it's peak!

  • No it didn't it was at it's peak during Pac and Biggie O.O

  • money and gangsta rap killed hophop because people confused hiphop with gangsta rap and money just made people sell out

  • You hit it right on the head with this one... Hip Hop is the flow...it is the vehicle to those funky places we called jammin back in the day....it bridges the gap between the past and future by telling a funky story about how we live ..Like our ancestors did. Hip Hop is the rebirth of that funky journey that our past was heading towards everyday, and then it happened. Soul planted the seed for Hip Hop,Hip hop planted the seed for gangsta rap. Some things grow wild, others can be nurtured. grow rap

  • You're half right and half wrong. Money is one of the reasons why hip hop has been suffering music wise, and the so called gangsta rap in this era with the gimmicks is also the other. However, old gangsta rap from NWA, to Geto boyz, Death Row Records, Bone thugs, and 2pac were about the music and talked about every day life in the ghettos rather than trying to show off their tough gangsta image that G-unot, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne does.

  • Amen

  • hahaa..got this shit from the song Hope..Nas

  • i loved before, and i still love her, just cuz its new times doesnt mean we cant keep our old shit

  • "This shit is real...... bitch." lol

  • quit crying HH is diverse

    gangster rap(popular) all coasts

    snap, trap,pimp music<--popular

    jazz hip hop(not commercial)

    crunk-is that still alive?(dead?)

hip hop infused with rock(some what popular amongst white kids???

hyphy(not too popular nationwide, still gets commercial airplay here and there esp out west!

HH does need a balance somewhat but still if the roots, kanye can sell cd's and kanye is kinda corny why cant other HH cant that dont do whats pop at the time..

  • but gangsta, snap, and crap music care about one thing money they dont care about making music that empowers the youth as Hip Hop once did.

  • all HH artist did not care about empowering youth if anything some of it lead to what we hear on the radios today

gangster rap has always been around it just got popular in the late 80's the commercial music i see know the message of the songs are not that different from the past.

except rappers were talking bout how many gold ropes and diamonds they had on they ass

  • THINK YOU SOOOO MUCH:)

  • what a fuckin great video

love the exit.. great albums.. a couple of which i haven't heard but the rest are my literal favorites.. and to end it with illmatic.. beautiful

  • 1994 - ahead of his time

  • H.E.R.

Hip Hop in it's ESSENCE & REALNESS

  • u totally got that from urban dictionary LOL

  • i used to love her too

  • now im like fuck this bitch

  • word MAN fuck that hoe, but i will always used to love her

  • Comment removed

  • common isnt underratted to real hip-hop fans. only to this new soljya boy faggor crowed

  • still y u care about the soulja boy crowd so much?cause i dnt, so what deymay not like common, thats them.

soulja boy is so successful that he is on ur mind 24/7- 365 and a every generation is not gonna grow up in the same music era i wasnt alive during the first hh era but was a kid and teen during its best eras n even then all hh was being on the radio or commercial and as i think about it knw alot of hh that was on the radio was corny then-

    insane in the membrain-cypress hill

  • I love every track that Nas is on!!

I love this track just as it is with common!

  • this track makes you Reminisce

  • my two favorite mcs and im kinda young but i know that most of the shit on the radio is pop music this hip hop music

  • i used to love h.e.r and n.y state of mind.. greatest 2 hip hop songs of all timmmeee!

  • nah common disses gangsta rap in h.e.r. and ny state of mind was pretty gangsta

  • hip hop man!! nothing more!!

  • u got me i thought ma 2 favorite dude was ona track an i was bouta hear the best compilation in da world

  • ThuggishRuggish-- thats true, and it's a damn shame. People don't know about Common Sense, they just say the dude from Smokin Aces.

1-2 Check, fuck the one- two step

  • maaaaaaaaaan wad a song.....damm

  • I Totally Agree With Everything That Isj Said, And The Only Few People Who Have Heard Of Him Judge Him On Universal Mind Control (Wasn't A Very Good Album Except For Everywhere(Track 10))

  • Common is one of the underrated rappers out there and people don't know him very well even though he's been around since early 90s. Which is quite sad =( People should listen to real hiphop not fake ass commercialised garbage

  • man i have to agree with you hands down theres alot of people out there listening to fake ass bullshit music, washed down and unreal this fake and pathetic movement of music is destroying the reputation of hip hop and there is no way it can be brought back....its sad if you think about it, all the hard work the real artist make

  • Common and 3000 the most underrated rappers IMO...

  • @lsj226 Respect to you for that.

  • wow dis is a bad remix and next time tell ppl u made it and dnt make it sound like its official

  • maybe you should learn to read u fucking idiot. lol

  • wat am i supposed to read? it sez remix and it doesnt say he mixxed it or nuthin so if u come on here ur thinkin its an official remix

  • Damn what happend to common.

This track is real true skool rap. But since U.M.C common is fucking comerial:S why did he make that song UMC is fucking wack!

  • this stuff is timeless .. UMC will be forgotten. Hopefully we can all forget that pop shit and move on.

  • thats whats up

  • this is one of the best videos on youtube

  • in terms of a remix this is SUM BULLSHIT, but the two songs r REAL HIP HOP!

  • whats that nas sound on the end...cant be the same song...but i'd like to hear more of it

  • its called Hope ft. Chrisette Michelle...its the outro of hip hop is dead

  • iLUVthis:)

  • I miss this common. Resurrection was his best album. I dont know why he put out UMC. That album was garbage. Lyrically I mean, the beats were great. I hope that was just some sort of experiment and I hope his next album common comes back with the lyrics

  • i am a newyorker 4 life,i think nas iz one level up on common ,but the original version of this song is one of rap biggest diamonds to evershine,an ilike common he is not a cocky money waving jerk alota people wit status dont got money an some wit no fame got mad money!!!!!

  • This is great. Thanks.

  • I used to love her to but now when I listen to her she doesnt make any sence she changed shes strange shes killing my people I miss how she used to be now shes commercial as fuck

  • true.......so true

  • Has anyone heard this song on Ocarina of Rhyme? That shit is the illest... Classics dubbed onto classics.

  • Nas & Common are the top 2 MCs of today's generation. Them & some othas, includin Mos Def, Black Starr, Eminem, etc are holdin down real Hip-Hop. But everything these 2 legends was spittin is some of the realist stuff we'll here. Especially in this day & time. Hip-Hop will neva die.

  • not hatin but u know mos def is part of blackstar right??!!??

  • emeniem aint hiphop he da same thing as these other rappas money and gunz he jus lyrical and dont got bubblegum beats like soulja boy thats y u sayin dat but em is ssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccckkkkkk

  • dude fo real this is a stupid not to be a bitch but yeah ha get a real remix if ur gonna make one dont be a bitch haha aight

  • you just added a nas song to the end of this dipshit ! FUCK YOU.

  • Man, I love Common. His new stuff ain't as good as the stuff on Resurrection LP, but it's not bad.

BTW, can someone tell me what's all the hype about Lil' Wayne. I just heard that stuff lollipop song and the other tune where that dumbass starts sounding like a siren.

  • lmao, with all the negativity about him from a lot of heads its hard to believe that someone HAS NOT heard of him.

Yes, he's wack. Commercial noise that's all in it for the money. It's funny though, compare him in the music videos vs. the real hip hop videos.

    100% Wack. Fuck that..

    ∞% Wack.

  • Wayne is so whack, its clear anyone who appreciates real hip hop would never enjoy that bullshit like everyone else.

  • my nephew made hip hop wrestlers in his game, and he made lil waynes nickname antichrist. I was laughin like hell.

  • why can't people just enjoy good music w/o mentioning wayne or soulja boy?

  • I'm with you if people really love hip hop why complain about people who can't make lyrics like others. One of my favourite parts of hip hop is diversity in different peoples own styles.

  • Hip Hop's Everlasting Romance

  • nasty nas

  • Where is Nas in this remix?!

  • Ah man, the problem with alot of mainstream dudes is the green tbh, like 50 was hot back in the day, and apparently lil waynes mixtapes were pretty hot too. I guess when some hood guys are promised the green they fall off with rhymin.

  • straight classic hip hop real hip hop. not the bull-shit on the radio and video these dayz.

  • but all in all: WHAT AN AMAZING SONG

  • common made this song in 1994 when hip hop was at its peak with 2pac, nas, big L, biggie, jay z, dr dre, ice cube, snoop dogg, bone thugs, and wu tang all doing there thing around that time. all those dudes are legends now. so i respect this song and its a classic but i dont agree with common's beliefs in this song.

nas said hip hop was dead when it really was dead. but we have good rappers like nas, jayz, eminem, game, ti, lupe, kanye(new album is wack though), luda, and underground shit.

  • I feel like in this song Common saw the downfall coming and predicted the outcome of hip-hop and the direction it was turning. Just like you said they were at the peek but the record label were getting hungry and started seeing what gimics, constant foul language amd black-on-black verbal crime could do for their profits. That's why I think Common wrote this song.

  • that kanye album 808 and heartbreak is the truth though its something different the only thing its lacking is how kayne sings or whatever for a minute or so then lets the instrumental play but his production is on point. but he should never make another cd like that again unless he makes a double cd like nelly with rap and r&b

  • 808 & Heartbreak was whatever, the 2 best songs are the ones with wayne and jeezy. i repect him for tryin something new and the album was very well produced but he lacks the lyrcism that he showed in his previous 3 albums. im ok with the auto tune as long as the rapper maintains the lyrical quality and kanye in my opinion failed to do that in his new album.

  • also common had beef with ice cube so maybe it was a lil bit of an attack to the westcoast rappin. dont entirely agree with that but it is VERY possible that he saw the future downfall. and hip hop DID turn into talkin about how tough a nigga was and thats not hip hop so hes talkin about that.

  • that's not quite what happened. ice cube was falling off & he needed to create a beef to revive his relevance. he started attacking ATCQ & common out of nowhere. many lost a lot of respect for cube after that.

  • cube is a bitch

  • y'know, i ain't gonna call the man a bitch but that was definitely some bitch shit that he pulled. ultimately, cube has atoned for it & i respect him as a man for that

  • yea i agree, mabye common saw the downfall of rap coming, and yea now hip hop is at its lowest cuz all rappers talk about is money and shit. only a few good rappers left now.

  • yea people like soulja boy. anyone can ryhme/rap. but theres a small number of people that can rap well. its a TALENT. some people slipped through the cracks and are makin money with no TALENT and i respect the money makin but wen its interfering with REAL music thats wen i got a problem with it. feel me.

  • yea i respect them but not their music. i cant hate on them, theyre makin their money doin what they wanna do, i just happen to feel that they dont do it very well. like soulja boy's music is suchh garbage it gets me mad but i cant really hate on him cuz yea hes makin millions.

  • exactly.its frustrating that people like his music but dam hes garbage. ANYONE can do wut hes doing. BUT shit money makes the world go round and he succeeded at makin it so i aint fina hate.

  • cuz the public is soo attracted to good production and shit so they dont even care about lyrical quality and stuff. whatever the girls can shake their ass too and whatever the guys can bump in their car is what the radio public wants.

  • you know what im from from chicago , and hip hop died years AGO. Only MAINSTREAM began!!!

  • straight up! I think the only one outhere now, would be Nas.

  • This is something I've thought about and talked about for some years now. I really love old school hip hop

  • common is dope as hell. even though that universal mind control is real mainstream, i still think common stands out compared to the auto tune t-wayne shit. rappers now, need to stop trynna be t-pain. hip hop can never be like this again till we get that whack shit off air atleast n play some real shit again from coast to coast. the rap game's hatin on this hip hop shit. forreal

  • the south did fuck hip hop up but they were on back then and before you guys give me that negative bullshit look at the geto boys they were from tx. look at trick daddy. but in all i dont like southern rap i do think it is lame. peace out

  • What is this instrumental? Does anyone know? I need a copy.

  • yo man try to get this instrumental

  • lupe fiasco will bring hip hop to life on the real joe if yu listen to him all his songs have a meaning it makes yu think hell bring it bakk nd i

  • i love this trak... hip hops now dead... i hope nas or the game or some1 brings it back

  • why do people not like Nas? His flow is sick and his songs are good.

  • cause they are insecure about their own beliefs and talents. he is #1 right now, too sick.

  • i fuck with nas his flows are sick but hes is just a cruddy dude

  • the south must be held up for crimes against hip hop they killed her son, real talk they were not on when this ong came out just dick rydin new york and tha west now they think that they envented gold teeth or rims...lol clowns!!

  • classic, simple as that

  • illmatic is the greatest album...reasonable doubt dont even come secon or top 5...

  • CHICAGO hip hop legend! Windy city emcees much love for diggin this out crates!

  • H.E.R. is an acronym for hip hop in it's essence and real.

  • you know that 'It Was Wrtten' was the best album o0f 96'

  • And I still Love H.E.R. . . .

  • illmatic absolutely wipes the floor of anything jay-z has ever created.

  • yea jayz is good and all back in the day but he cant fuk with illmatic

  • Fuck now u guys r over doing it Illmatic is the best hip hop album ever but remember it only has 10 tracks... Reasonable doubt is n a close second... With more tracks... n a lot of people think It was written is better than illmatic... But lets just say jigga cut his cd short with only... 1.Can't Knock The Hustle 2Can I Live 3.Dead Pres 4.Politics 5.D'Evils 6.22's 7.BK's Finest 8. Feelin' It 9.Freind or Foe 10. • sick mc's but wack list

  • What is your list?

  • if my shit is wack who is your top 5

  • kanye is stealin some of common's rhymes

  • No I.D. who is a long time friend and co producer of this song is the guy who mentored Kanye West in producing.

he's not stealing, it's called an allusion

  • Kanye and Common are close friends. When you hear rappers say a rhyme similar to another MC, it's showing respect to them pretty much.

  • Wow awesome. I like commons old stuff

  • if u listen to what lil wayne raps about and what immmortal technique rap about there is difference lil wane always raps about the same thing and all of these mcs rap about their life goverment and hip hop. not about getting high

  • I don't know why you guys are getting mad because the guy below says he likes big l alot.
